Bio metal

Post by sven666 »

yeah i just played this, expecting the average shmuporama the SNES usually produces with these not-so-heard-of games.

 its a fucking manic!

ive never before been so annihilated in a SNES shmup before, its not half bad either - this is one hard puppy!
kinda cool trance soundtrack that made me think of Zed blade, actually the game is kinda similar to ZB on the whole.
it has a shield/weapon gimmick that didnt seem quite spot on but hey atleast its something, graphics arent anything spectacular but they work fine, played thru to stage 3 and didnt notice any noteworthy slowdown, enemies range from popcorn ones to pretty big sprites (for a SNES) and they all look ok and are kinda varied.

pick it up, (especialy if you like ZB) difinetly woth a few $s i say!

Were you playing the USA or Japanese version?

I remember Rob saying the US ver was shite, but that the Japanese one was his favorite SNES/SFC shmup.

IIRC the only major difference between the regions was the music...of course, the US version's music is some of the worst music ever, but hey.

In any event, the game was indeed, imo, a good deal ahead of its time, in terms of how manic it was; I still wouldn't call it a personal favorite, but since you can get it pretty cheap it's not a bad purchase.

I like the music in the intro, the title, and the first level.

Great game, too.

JP version all the way.

PAL version :P dont know the differences in music but like i said this was an all-out-trance track very much like zed blade, havent played US or JAP verson so i cant say whichone it takes after..

ED: im not inte trance music per se, i wouldnt stick this OST in my stereo, but it really did the job well in setting the mood of the game.

the western versions' music was produced by crap-on-a-stick euro cheese merchants "2unlimited" :?

the japanese version had pretty interesting electronic stuff that in places is very reminiscent of late 80's new order..

Aaah, 2 Unlimited. Responsible for all time music highs with tracks like:
"Ready for this", "The workaholic" and the unforgivable* "No Limit".
They should have quit after the first mentioned track.
Only thing worse than listening to the other crap from 2 Unlimited is having to listen to it during a somewhat good game. This is the music that can destroy
any good game. :(

***runs off screaming at the thought of Border Down and Salamander featuring 2 Unlimited soundtracks***

There. Corrected it for you.

The excellent finnish band Waltari did a great cover version of it, though. They did a double-cover and combined "No Limits" with Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction" to fuse them into one exceptionally weird song, which, surprisingly, works very well.

! I offer my sincere apologies for my unacceptable choice of words!

Better edit my post before someone quotes me on that.

Whoah, I've got to pick up the Japanese version!
I liked the game, but not the music. I also really liked the shield thingy.

the music on the jp version is pretty darn good in places, worth a peep, if only on a rom - i've been considering doing some remixes for a long time...

great game indeed. i've never known so many people to actually speak up about its greatness. i remember kidding around with rob that we were perhaps the only "fans" on the board and i don't remember anybody disagreeing. :P

This game was so awesome. I remember renting it from a local place years ago and being hooked, though hating the music. Now that I'm older and thanks to the magic of software emulation I can play the game with the original soundtrack.

The stages do feel a little TOO long at times though, but God is it fast. Probably the fastest playing shmup on the SNES. I mean Scrambled Valkyrie and Space Mega Force have faster moving stages but the enemy movement in this one is great.

it was great at the time, haven't played it for years though. it was known to be one of the toughest console shmups of that generation.
it's featured on saturn dezaemon 2.
