Question About EB Trade-Ins

Post by judesalmon »

Hi everyone, I'm hoping you guys can help me out on this one.

I'm off to San Francisco on Wednesday (I live in the UK) and I want to visit an EB to buy some new games. Anyway, I thpught it would be a good idea to trade-in some of my old US Cube/Xbox/PS2 games, but was wondering which ones it would be worth taking.

Basically, is there a way I can find out what trade I would get for games from EB? I've tried ebgames.com, but haven't found anything.

Your help is appreciated.

I think you have to call them up or acutally go in to the store to find out game values. I have never traded w/ them before, but I would not expect the best prices. I think they give you more $$ if you choose in store credit over cash.

EB Games, and Gamestop both have pretty low trade in values, even for newer games. I remember a while back (when they were still accepting NES carts), they were only paying like 10-20 cents per cart. SNES games weren't getting much more (yes, even a game like R-Type III, or Chrono Trigger would probably be a dollar trade). :( My advice would be to sell your games elsewhere, then buy what you're looking for. Sorry if that doesn't help much.

No wonder why they only got used in poor conditin for sale.

i.e. people only sold games that are either badly scratched or not working to them...

I bought a few used game from them in the past, none of them are in good condition.

A while back I sold a bunch of PS 1 games to Gamestop, and I barely got anything out of it.

I believe there's an EB in Stonestown Galleria mall, and Fishermen's Wharf(or is it Gamestop?).

There's a Gamestop at Lakeshore Plaza which is near the zoo, and a couple in Serramonte Mall.

I would never trade in there.

The last time I traded was extreme G3 on PS2 which I bought for $50 2 weeks prior. Trade in value was like $12.

Then I traded it in for Silent hill 2 pre owned, which was something like $46 instead of $50 new. WTF?

Take the games to a indy store.

Are there any other shops in the area where I could trade-in my games?

ie. somewhere that might offer more.

None of the big name stores will give you hardly anything.

I'd seriously just sell them on here.

You will always get more by selling games directly to the customers.

Just post them here or at eBay, either way you would got more then trade-in them at EB or GameStop.

Yeah, many used game stores love to rip us off with trade in values. I traded in five Genesis games in a used game store (not a major store like EB Games, Gamestop, etc.), and the guy gave me $10 bucks. One of the games was Sonic 3D Blast, he gave me only two bucks for it. I look around at the store's Genesis section after that, and I saw this: "Sonic 3D Blast" "$14.95" :x

Unfortunately I only know of Gamestop and EB. I don't know too many independent game stores around here except for Network Videos down in Burlingame, which is closed to SFO. If you have time, you should check out that store. I don't know if they do trade-ins though.

You probly wont get jack for your trade ins... take it from me - an ex EB employee. Also, don't expect for any of your cases to be in good condition - or even the discs for that matter. You'll have a collection in crummy packaging covered in sticker goo and dirt.

Going by the majority of posts in this topic, I only took six games with me, to see what I would get.

They offered me $13 trade, or $10 cash.

Needless to say I didn't take them up on the offer.

Thanks folks.

There are two local independent video game shops...

Where by I live, there are two independent video game shops by the name of Oakdale Game Exchange & Modesto Game Exchange...I'm not sure if they are owned by the same people (it seems that it could be by the similiar sounding names...I'd have to ask about this).

The Oakdale Game Exchange sells both new & used video game titles...I have never traded in a game at either independent game stores though.

My guess is that I wouldn't be given a fair amount of cash or store credit on some of the rarer game console titles. (It would be like trading in a complete copy of TTI's rare USA Hu-Card of "Magical Chase" for a couple of bucks worth of store credit...when it could easily fetch $250.00 on the collector's video game market). So common sense is the best judgement when it comes to selling your used video games whether it be common, uncommon or in rare condition.

The problem with EB Trade-Ins is that you get ripped off. Badly, well at least for older stuff.

It could work out to your advantage, however, if you the sort of person who buys the new releases and gets bored of them in a week or so (seems to happen to me with most new games lately, *shrug*). You'll get about $20 or so credit for your next game, and so on and so forth, until you find a keeper, I guess.

Renting is alot cheaper though since you don't lose $50 if you accidently rent a bad game or it doesn't live up to your expectations, you only lose $5 or so.

I usually buy games when they become cheaper or out of date.
