Yes, it does. In fact, the announcement of Ketsui for PS3 made ditch plans of getting a Jap X360 (already have a PAL one) and starting to get a couple of PS3 games I've missed out on like Demon's Souls. Without Ketsui I wouldn't even have considered buying a PS3.gct wrote:It means he is going to play it, and not keep it sealed!

Could anyone link me to a ketsui arcade mode strategy, getting my bottom handed to me.

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
Thank you
Does ketsui have bullet cancelling? I think I did it once, maybe twice. But no idea how it works.
I managed to get through the game today, finally. Think I used 7 credits.. but was really impressed with it. Having not played it before (but have watched the Superplay) I wasn't so sure what I would think, but yeah, I very much enjoyed it. I think I will work towards a 1st loop 1cc (have only 1cc's a small selection of games). I used the stright shooting ship, preferred it over the wide shot, and i think it's a little faster.
The last two sections, both mid and end section bosses have some fantastic bullet patterns, which actually allowed some skill to dodge as opposed to memorising which I see in so many games. Really did enjoy the bullet patterns, will sink some serious time into it over the next month.
Anyway, going to read through the ST.

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
What kind of cancelling? It has been years since I played the PCB but I thought the screen can get cleared when certain large enemies or boss forms are defeated. I just got my PS3 copy but I have not had 15 minutes to dedicate to playing that I didn't rather spend doing something else, so mine is still sealed, Skykid :p I fully intend to open and play it before the end of the year, after I get around to opening my X360 MMP/PS and DDP Resurrection...
Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
This would almost be a 100% flawless port if not for its handling of replays. While most other STGs with a replay function give you many different viewing speeds and let you jump around to different stages in the playback from a menu, here you have only two speeds (normal and moderately fast), and you have to let it play all the way through to see later stages. The one other thing is the apparent inability to disable the pop-up trophy progress messages, which can be distracting.

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
The PCB didn't have replays at all.Pretas wrote:This would almost be a 100% flawless port if not for its handling of replays.

This is a general issue with PS3 games. However, quite recently Sony added an option to the system settings for disabling trophy messages:The one other thing is the apparent inability to disable the pop-up trophy progress messages, which can be distracting.

I wasn't referring to the PS3 system trophy messages, the game has its own ones that can't be turned off.

Do they actually pop up in the game window itself, or is it like the home port bundle of Chronicles of Mystara where if you're playing the game at the original aspect ratio with borders, the in-game achievements pop up in the non-playing area borders of the screen?Pretas wrote:I wasn't referring to the PS3 system trophy messages, the game has its own ones that can't be turned off.
Those are a bit distracting I can agree, but hopefully they didn't make them actually appear in the playing window itself...

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
I could've sworn I turned them off in the 360 version....but it's been so long and I've got all the achivements there already, so I haven't had a reason to check it.
Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
They pop up in the top right corner, but slightly intrude into the game window. Probably all over the window if you're playing tate.BareknuckleRoo wrote:Do they actually pop up in the game window itself, or is it like the home port bundle of Chronicles of Mystara where if you're playing the game at the original aspect ratio with borders, the in-game achievements pop up in the non-playing area borders of the screen?

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
Personally I find it more annoying that I don't know what they mean. Also these messages are nothing new as the were in the Xbox 360 port. However when watching Edward's video I noticed the lack of these messages. So I poked around in the menus of the PS3 version. From the top menu:Pretas wrote:They pop up in the top right corner, but slightly intrude into the game window. Probably all over the window if you're playing tate.

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
Is there any way to make this not look like shit at 720P? However I set it, the scaling looks wrong, and there's no way to turn smoothing off, just nearest neighbour.

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
For the Xbox 360 version Fudoh recommended an Overscan setting of 83% for 720p yoko resulting in a 448 x 598 play area to minimize scaling artifacts. So the default 90% would be not optimal. I'd try bicubic or lanczos smoothing - the rule of thumb seems to suggest that both minimize artifacts for enlarged images.system11 wrote:Is there any way to make this not look like shit at 720P? I cringed the first time the game forced the PS3 out of 1080p and into 720p, invariably getting the display's scaler involved.
Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
Yeah 83% seemed sort of ok for the ps3 one too. I already decided to sell it though.

I have figured out a few of the enemies that cancel bullets on stage 2 and 3. Will keep looking. Hammering it atm. I'm currently getting to stage 3 and 1/2 way on a credit. I go in too heavy at the start and always waste a life trying to get all those 5 tokens, which is a habit brought over from DDP.
Still, this and Dark Souls are my top played at the moment, closely followed by Chaos Field on PS2.

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
I don't have a PS3; just a US 360
Be honest with me: am I missing out by not playing Ketsui? As in "it's better than every other region free 360 cave release put together and you should buy a PS3 just for this" missing out? I'd love to buy a PS3, especially with all the other exclusives, but I gotta save for the PS4 and maybe a vita...

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
Totally worth it IMO, but then again, Ketsui is basically my favorite game ever (bought 360, PS3, AND PCB versions lol).
If costs are a factor, you can still at the very least play the game in MAME, which I recommend over nothing any day

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
I actually have the ROM for ketsui... ...On my old shitty laptop since I refuse to risk getting malware on my new computer by playing around with emulation on it. (If I did have it emulated on my current one I wouldn't have any complaints
) Yeah, it's annoying to start up, has countless problems (tencent QQ censorware is the least of that laptop's problems), the music stutters a bit, and I have to use the keyboard, but at the end of the day it's still a way to play Ketsui

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
Well,
Brutally honest, my PS3 is my most played console. And I put in 15,000 online games of Halo. I know, I truly am a hermit. It's never been a better time to have a PlayStation 3. The console is in its prime, devs finally know what they're doing with it. And the library of exclusives alone, make the console worth owning.
Ketsui is region free, so that should be a big positive.
It plays PS1 games.
Blu Ray player
PS+
A few games that I have played recently/loved - I am not a Sony first party fan - God of war, infamous, Uncharted haven't set my world on fire. But, some of the more obscure stuff has..
Tokyo Jungle
Demon Souls
The last of us
Boku No Natsuyasumi
Valkyria Chronicles
Railfan
Afrika
Aquanauts Holiday

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
I don't have any interest in Playstation Plus, and I suspect that a lot of people here would agree. This is because it's a glorified rental service: once your subscription expires, you can no longer access the games you downloaded for "free." If I wanted that, I'd use Gamefly, since it isn't tied to a specific platform.

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
I can understand that, but PS+ has been a pleasant surprise for me so far. I still buy Vita games on occasion, but there's enough on + that I don't really have to buy games for the PS3 or Vita.

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
That's a fair argument until next gen systems though where online play will be a paid service on everything but the Wii U. The only difference I see is that Sony is handing out free games every month for you to keep and play while Microsoft isn't handing out anything and charging $100 more than their competitor WITH region-locking! You'd think shit like that would be obsolete now considering XBO uses Blu-Rays now.Pretas wrote:I don't have any interest in Playstation Plus, and I suspect that a lot of people here would agree. So far the only next gen shmups announced I think are Resogun and Galak-Z.
Edit: In the end, lets just hope we get more shmups next gen.

Untrue. They've been handing out quite a few free 360 games for XBL Gold subscribers lately, and not rentals either. The only difference I see is that Sony is handing out free games every month for you to keep and play while Microsoft isn't handing out anything and charging $100 more than their competitor WITH region-locking!

Re: Ketsui comes to the PS3
Just got my copy from play asia, what a fantastic game.
Never had the chance to really play it before (just a few credits on MAME and the nintendo DS version), and i'm getting my ass kicked really hard. Ketsui is brutal, maybe it's just me, but i'm thinking it's even harder than DOJ, which for me was the hardest cave game until now.
