PC engine smells like fish
Why would my pc engine super cd rom smell like fish? I bought it off ebay and am worried. Let me know what you think.

Yea thats what I'm affraid of. Could it be the grease inside? It just underwent a laser change.

I would say something got inside of it and died. Lizards and bugs are common suspects.
Back when me and my dad used to fix TV's, someone came with a TV with a very bad burning kinda smell. Turns out, rats had been living inside and had been electrocuted.

There is no room nor opening for anything big to get inside of a CD unit.
If it works fine then just live with it. I hear wrapping game and systems in fabric softeners and leaving them like that for a while gets rid of nicotin stink, might work the same for eau de Darius.

Quite possible that a capacitor has burst inside. Busted caps often smell like fish.

I think the Super CD units are starting to suffer from cap issues like the TurboDuo, I'd look into getting it recapped.

The caps all seem to look good. Whom and how much would it cost to have a full cap job done? Thanks for any advise.

PC Engine fx forums has a few members that do PC Engine various mods/repairs, recapping will prolly set you back $50 or so. But head to the forum and ask.

Try spraying it with some Febreze or Femfresh

Nice name. You must be that guy whose house smells like a thrift store. Febreze might not make you sneeze and may not even be carcinogenic, but it is still one of the worst things ever invented. Of course, it is easier than pulling things apart and cleaning or repairing them properly.
