SCPH-90000 NTSC-J PS2 voltage tolerances

Post by Deca »

I apologize in advance as I'm sure this is a painfully common question, but I've seen a lot of contradictory information here and there while searching and was just hoping to get a quick and direct answer from someone.

I just purchased a Japanese scph-90000, is a 120-100v step down necessary to keep from damaging it or will it happily run directly plugged into an American power outlet? I've never used a step down for my Japanese Saturn, and it works fine as far as I can tell after being plugged in for the better part of a year, I just want to know that I'm not tempting fate in doing this. I'm also planning to import an FDS, SFC and PCDuoRX in the not too distant future and just decided that I'd like to have this question answered once and for all for my own peace of mind.

I've used mine for a little while without getting a step-down; it seems to be fine. But it's only seen hours of use so far, and only with PS1 games.

It probably has a bride rectifier inside.

it's fine.

I don't live in the US, but over here in Europe everybody uses straight 2:1 voltage converters for import machines, doesn't matter if US or japanese consoles. Our outlets have ~230V, so the converters' output are ~115V.

According to that link/image (scroll to bottom) the SCPH-90000 internal PSU can handle 100-240V 50/60Hz.

Awesome, exactly what I was hoping to hear. Thank you all for the information!

Now I just need to figure out if I should actually be worried about the ribbon cable disc scratching nonsense :(
