January 26th is the release date. It's like Namco had observed Capcom's "let's take our classic games from the PSX releases and put them all into the same disc with some extras"-approach, but didn't quite get it. Where's Ordyne and Dragon Saber? The 16 games included in the collection are: Bosconian, Pac-Man, Ms Pac-Man, Pac-Mania, Mappy, Xevious, Dig Dug, Dragon Spirit, Galaxian, Galaga, Galaga '88, Rally X, Pole Position, Pole Position II, Rolling Thunder, and Sky Kid.

Er.. isn't this just the "Namco Museum 50th Anniversary" that you can already get for $20?

Nope, different collection. P-A linkZach Keene wrote:Er.. isn't this just the "Namco Museum 50th Anniversary" that you can already get for $20?
That one includes Ridge Racer, Klonoa, Ace Combat 2, Tekken and Mr. Driller.

How irritating. That's not what's on the "Namco Museum 50th Anniversary" available in North America (which has a lineup similar if not identical to the list this "Arcade Hits" includes.)Ghegs wrote:Nope, different collection. P-A link

It seems that the Arcade Hits at NCSX includes Pac-Mania-- perhaps this is unlockable in the US version, but it is not otherwise part of the line-up, iirc.Zach Keene wrote:How irritating. It does seem that the Japanese 50th Anniversary is quite a bit better. Bummer.

Well that's...weird. I wasn't aware the US version of 50th Anniversary (or more correctly: the release with the exact same name as the different JPN release...) has a totally different line-up. Huh. Didn't companies learn anything from Life Force, Life Force and Life Force?Zach Keene wrote: How irritating. Japanese companies have always been notoriously stingy with compilations of their classic games (though when a no-frills Super Mario Bros. port sells so well on the GBA for $20 I can't say I blame them). Capcom destroyed this mentality by putting all those Capcom Generations games onto the Capcom Classics Collection and the Taito Legends collection has a great assortment of games too , I wish Namco would follow suit.
I'm getting sick of them releasing compilations with fourteen games or less given the age and availability of so many of them. Where's a more recent US release of Burning Force? ANY US release of Finest Hour? They're almost as bad as SNK when it comes to sitting on a huge pile of gems.

The Namco 50th Anniversey Japanese package is a little weak. It's just PSOne versions of all of the games. All of them are also pretty common except for Klonoa. They didn't add much except for galleries and occasionally some videos (like for Mr. Driller.)
That newer Namco PS2 pack is really bad too. They should've just done what Capcom did and stick all six Namco Museum discs together, reprogram them for the PS2 (because many of the PS1 games don't work), and released that. I want my Legend of Valkyrie dammit!

Yea I picked this one up for only one reason: you can use all of the old Pac-Man patterns.
Galaga 88 is quite a lot of fun as I never had a Turbo Grafix 16 back in the day, so this is a nice bonus. Very shooter-ish with a vibe from the original. Very fun.
Other than that, I totally agree with everyone else. Unless you you need to play an arcade perfect Pac-Man on a console, there is absolutely no reason to purchase this one. For the 50th Ann. how about Namco including all the Ridge Racers, Tekkens, Time Crisis, Prop Cycle, and every other cool game they could put on there. Also, I now feel it should be required that Digital Eclipse be involved in all future retro collections. Other than the questionable Street Fighter ports on the Capcom collection, they do a wonderful job.

Yeah, but Namco never lets a later game be better than an earlier game in every way.
Namcollection looks equally dumb with...the PS Ridge Racer? Come on now. I'm a huge Ridge Racer fan but even I won't get such no-effort repetitive nonsense, not even for the $10 that Play-Asia had it for awhile ago.

Legand of Valkyrie is missing too. By the way, if this time it tate right (i.e. Tate by rotating anti-clockwise), I would be in.Ghegs wrote:From NCSX:

Umm. That Japanese 50th Anniversary collection is called NamCollection, not Namco Museum. No "Namco Museum" in the title. Namco Museum Arcade hits IS the same collection as Namco Museum 50th Anniversary.Ghegs wrote:Nope, different collection. Zach covered this already. NamCollection's box also reads "Namco 50 Anniversary", almost the same name as the US "Namco Museum 50th Anniversary", which lead to my confusion. One would assume a company doesn't release a collection in one region, then use almost the same name but with a completely different line-up in another region. Back when I heard US gets a "50th Anniversary" pack from Namco, I naturally assumed it's the exact same one as in JPN so I didn't even bother to check the games included.BrianC wrote:Umm. oh ok, I was just emphazing that the namCollection doesn't have the word Museum anywhere in the title, though. Both games may have 50th Anniversary in the title, but they aren't both Namco Museums.Ghegs wrote:Zach covered this already.
