Trading Cards are something I can't wrap my head around. Do they actually do anything apart from sitting in a steam folder? I can't see anypoint to them or why ppl would pay real money for them :?

I think this is the first game I actually play that has trading cards. *edit* I believe I bought them straight off Nyu Media's website, so they're probably not in my Steam account, haha.

But yea, trading cards are very easy to ignore since they just sit in their own section. I think I got a few during the last steam sale (for voting on flash sales), but they weren't memorable enough for me to pay attention.

Completing the set nets you badge (!) to show people that you play the game! (!!!) So, no, they don't do anything. Steam is a great service, but I think they are trying too hard to make a game out of playing games.

Seeing this thread reminds me to buy these games. They always looked awesome, but for some reason I always forgot to get them. I'll make it a priority, shmups on Steam are always welcome.

Haven't seen this asked anywhere in this thread. Does anybody know if there's a way of forcing the first game into 4:3 on a 16:9 monitor? I just bought the series - it's on sale on Steam today - and am a bit peeved at the fact that I appear to be stuck with playing it in stretch-o-vision.

Guys, the three games are on sale on Steam right now for $4.99

Should I get???

Considering they look nice just judging from face value and they have cards... I would guess that yes, I should get it  Thoughts?

When you collect a set of cards, you get a badge, which you can level-up further by repeatedly collecting the same set of cards. Badges give you community-related perks for that game.

Personally, I don't care for it, but I like it since I get cards for the games I have and I can sell the cards on the market for Steam wallet money :)

So for example, if I get this eXceed series for $4.99, I might be able to make around $1 - $1.50 of that back with the cards I sell from those games.

Definitely. For the straight-forward shoot 'em up experience, eX3rd JPBP is your alley. eX2nd VR has the polarity mechanic similar to Ikaruga. Think of Ikaruga with much less memorization.

Don't bother too much with Gun Bullet Children. The game's pacing is really off-putting and the designs are pretty awful. Their first attempt at a STG is very apparent in this game. I probably would have liked it more if the game ran better on modern machines but it's prone to bugginess and slow-downs.

So uhh... I think Remedy shows up no matter what if you're playing on Exceed difficulty and you don't use a continue because this has happened on more than one occasion:

Regarding eXceed 2nd- VAMPIRE:
Is there a way to change the control buttons from the menu or is it just f*ucked up? Now matter how many times I try they do not change. It would be so much pleasurable to have change button on x instead of c.

Yeah, configging buttons/keys works fine for me. If you got it from Steam maybe post on the forum for tech support?

Stupid question guys:

Been playing eXceed 3rd recently after some nice chap some time ago passed me a Steam key for it. Yesterday I think it was I got up to stage 5 on a single run, Normal difficulty. Now what I'm curious about is, what good is the Ikaruga-ripoff homing laser things for? Do I get punished score-wise for using them or SHOULD I be using them? I forgot they even existed till I fired it by accident trying to find the pause button.

Killing them faster. (That's the scoring system.)
The traditional limited-stock screen-clearing Bomb is what costs points.

I think you just get a multiplier for killing enemies quickly after they spawn. Like the number of multipliers tick down the longer they remain alive.

Okay, what about the use of bomb? It does not seem to add much to the chain during the stages but on some parts of the bosses it gives a nice boost.

He's talking about eXceed 3rd BP, not eXceed 2nd.

No idea about normal mode but there is a 44 million run on Nico and I have a 39 million run.
Scoring is pretty much absorbing as many bullets as possible to increase the chain and full-chaining stages along with speedkilling the bosses as fast as possible. Bumping into enemies makes you adsorb more bullets as you absorb the full bullet spawn point.

eXceed 3rd BP scoring is really mysterious but it probably involves some sort of speedkill chaining.
This 42 million replay makes free use of bombs to kill things as fast as possible.

Oh sorry, misread, thought it was ex2.

But yeah using bombs doesn't hurt your score. In fact they're pretty much the core of it. Plan your use of them to speed kill bosses (bigger time bonus) and safely kill as much stuff fast as possible (especially on higher ranks where the suicide bullets will boost your chain.

According to the manual (http://exceedseries.com/eX2VR_manual.pdf) you also get more points for killing enemies closer to them, so it's useful even for when you're not absorbing bullets. Bumping enemies is also MASSIVE damage, so just be as aggressive as possible.

It appears every time. At least it does when I play the stage on practice.

I don't know if this was already posted but the first eXceed was recently unofficialy patched for it to run in windowed mode, capping framerate to 60 FPS, and adding the English translation.

It's funny, but eXceed 1st/GBC is probably the most boring doujin title I've ever played, whereas eXceed 2nd is one of the most fun doujin titles I've ever played.
