Sony zn-2 / Strider 2 service menu

Post by Skykid »

I'm in base supergun mode at the moment. Need to access the service menu because my Strider 2 isn't on defaults and three health blocks is insane.

I can't see a service mode button on the board, unless I'm just being blind, and I've tried the 4 dips independently and all I can get is a hardware test. I know the service mode exists because it's in the manual but I can't read Japanese.

Assuming there's no button access from the pcb, would I need to access via jumpers? How would I go about bridging them?

Thanks much.

Pin 15 on the parts side is "test" -- connect it to ground to enter the diagnostics menu.

While you're in there, set the sound to "external" and hook up that delicious stereo output 8)

I thought the stereo/mono output is done on the physical switch on the motherboard?

Thanks for that shmuppy! Should have thought to look for an English manual, although it still assumes everyone has a service button on their cabs.

Bridging the jumper: I just get a piece of wire with two stripped ends and touch one to the ground on component (jamma fingerboard) and the other to the jumper pad, is that correct? Think I've seen it done but not done it myself.

Yeah. Although I'd be looking to fit a momentary switch to the harness, just to make things less slippery.

A 'momentary' switch?

Don't know if I have the parts for that. I'm in my parents place and a bit of stripped wire might be all I can lay my hands on.

Rather than a toggle switch. Albeit some boards want a toggle switch.

A normal arcade button would do.

Piece of cake, thanks so much guys.

Just weird that PSX Strider 2 gives a life stock maximum of 5 by default, but the arcade is limited to 3 unless you change it. That's a broad difference considering how hard the 1cc is!
