The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
I've been fine, just sticking with the Wifi model. I've only ever taken it online, to browse the PS Store anyways (which is pretty rare to begin with). I'd say just go for the Wifi model.
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Vita can't play multiplayer games over 3G and has a worse web browser than your phone likely has. No reason to bother with 3G, at all
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Bump, totally taking over Friendly's role (I'm a worse Sony fanboy than he is, seriously). PSN US summer sale might be interesting to PS+ subscribers: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/07/ ... -tomorrow/
Things I find interesting:
Alice Madness Returns for 4$ (PS3, American McGee's Alice (PS3) included for free. edit: not so interesting, both ports are pretty bad)
Mortal Kombat for 5$ (PS3/PSV)
Shadow of the Colossus for 5$ (ICO/SOTC not coming to US IGC?
)
Silent Hill: Book of Memories for 7.5$ (PSV, dungeon crawler by WayForward)
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World for 2$ (PS3)
There's also the Hitman Trilogy (PS3) at 16$, Prince of Persia Classics Trilogy (PS3) at 8$ and Ratchet & Clank Collection (PS3) at 7.5$ which I'm sure is fantastic value but I doubt I ever would play any of them (on consoles, anyway).
Again, PS+ prices. Subscribe to PS+ everyone, well worth it. Maybe a bit off-topic since there's only two Vita games worth considering.
There's rumors about 64 GB cards now... Hoping for something at Gamescom, the wait is killing me.
Ordered DJMAX Technika Tune and Lumines: Electronic Symphony. I know I'll like Lumines, but I have no idea what to expect from DJMAX (in terms of how much I'll like it, I know what it is).
Also bought Mutant Blobs Attack from the PSN store. Why didn't anyone warn me the Vita version ran at 30 FPS?
If I knew I wouldn't have bothered and would've went with the PC version.
Been playing a lot of Wipeout lately on both my PSP and Vita.

So at Anime Expo, Aksys announced Sei Madou Monogatari and NISA announced Danganronpa and Demon Gaze.
Yeah, there's more interesting Vita game announcements at an anime expo than at E3. I'm not quite sure what that means.
Been playing lots of Wipeout 2048. Last thing I did was finish the AG prototype challenge. AG prototype does a 180 turn if you lightly press the analog stick that's right next to the accelerator. It's a very fun accident to make in a 10 lap race. Especially when you fail the event five times because of it.
Multiplayer is still alive, but due to trophy/exp hunting it's 90% combat events. It is a easy way to grind exp if you want to unlock more ships.

If nothing else it at least means the system's got the "whack-a-doodle localized stuff" angle covered for the moment. I wonder how many (if any) will rate physical releases...ZellSF wrote:So at Anime Expo, Aksys announced Sei Madou Monogatari and NISA announced Danganronpa and Demon Gaze.

I definitely have my eye on Madou Monogatari. Possibly Demon Gaze as well. I'll have to look up Danganronpa though.
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
I might end up postponing acquisition of a Vita, because I think I'm going to try my hand at RC helis
Once the Ys localization is released though, I will get one - no two ways around it!

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Picked up DJ Max Technika Tune about a week ago. It's fun, but I think I prefer Project Diva F due to being able to use physical button presses. Though I do like the fact that Technika Tune has actual leaderboards.
Speaking of Project Diva, the sequel was recently announced. However, I'm unlikely to pick it up unless it's 60fps and/or has leaderboards.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
There are screenshots out of Project Diva f 2nd. Not the massive visual downgrade that would be required for 60 FPS, I'd say... but the difference in technical quality between Project Diva and Project Diva 2nd was pretty huge so who knows.
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Looks like the Vita is officially getting a price cut to $199:
http://kotaku.com/ps-vita-price-cut-to-199-5985760
Apparently Sony is also promising to reduce the prices on memory cards. I still don't know if I have a reason to actually buy one, but at least it should be cheaper.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
No information on WHEN they're dropping memory card prices or by how much nor did we get a 64 GB card announcement.
Duke Nukem 3D and VVVVVV ports (both games have been shown running on a Vita) weren't confirmed either and we got no news on Final Fantasy X & X-2 HD remasters.
Really disappointed.

I'm more in love with my Vita than ever. As hardware, I've always loved it, but there haven't been quite enough great game. But now with all the indie stuff and new IP heading its way, it's looking like I'll be playing mine a lot more.
I played the new Broken Sword on it today, and that was fucking ace; beautiful. Should be out this year. Similarly, I had a little go on Murasaki Baby, and that was tonnes of fun. The PS4 cross-play works wonders hands on too, though I always remain suspicious of something like that until I try it with my own unit at home.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
VVVVVV is now most definitely confirmed for Vita. VVVVVV was actually a huge reason why I bought a 3DS. Vita being known as the indie handheld and I buy a 3DS specifically for a indie game, I'm apparently the opposite of almost everyone else in this world. Really sad N++ is PS4 only, Vita needs more difficult platformers.
US PS+ is getting Rayman Origins this month and GTA Liberty City Stories if you care about PSP games (Galaga Legions DX, ICO, Resident Evil HD Chronicles for PS3). I can't recommend enough times that people that own both a PS3 and PSV absolutely must subscribe to PS+. Disregarding the "free" (only free as long you're a subscriber) games PS+ is still paying for itself in terms of discounts to me. In the months I've been subscribed I think PS+ has actually paid for itself for at least three years.
The Walking Dead port supposedly has some serious stuttering issues... Heard that was true of the console ports too though. I'm guessing the attitude is "adventure games don't need framerate" or something. Still considering ordering it since I prefer playing games on handhelds (why I bought a Vita).
Ordered a 32 GB memory card now and a Hori 24 card case, sort of hoping I can take one page out of that case and put it in the Hori 24 card 3DS case. The official 8 card case is FYI terrible, getting game cards out of it is very difficult.
Also, in other news the PSN web store is still all kinds of terrible. People got money for being part of creating this? Just about the only positive thing you can say about it is that it's better than the PS3 store and that is NOT high praise.
Opinion time, I'm avoiding the following games: Limbo, Orgarhythm, Sine Mora and Thomas Was Alone. Should I continue avoiding them?

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Limbo - nice art, but gameplay is pretty ho hum for me - it can continue to be avoided.Opinion time, I'm avoiding the following games:
Orgarhythm - one of those games that probably could and should have been better, again it's entirely avoidable
Sine Mora - if you don't have one of the other versions it's pretty solid - some sacrifices made to get it -largely- running at 60fps is appreciated. Best game in your list, but not an essential purchase either
Thomas Was Alone - isn't a bad game but just felt a bit too easy - it's "indie nice" but i thought there were better indie games than this.
there are games that should be ahead of all of these though

"I've asked 2 experts on taking RGB screenshots...."
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Maybe I'll buy Sine Mora then... then again, maybe not as I have a feeling it will be on PS+ pretty soon.
Anyway, question for people who use their Vitas to play PSP games: is it just me or did 2.60 introduce some awful tearing? I'm sure it wasn't there before. Noticable on most FMV playback but also in some games (Wipeout Pulse especially).

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games

I assume this doesn't happen randomly in almost all FMVs / some 3D games to anyone running firmware versions below 2.60?
Those horizontal lines scroll down the screen for half a second. Happens randomly and frequently. Wipeout Pulse almost looks worse in motion than on my PSP 3000 now.

Wait...So I pay once for PS+ (for a year, of course) and I get the PS+ stuff on PS3 AND Vita?ZellSF wrote: I can't recommend enough times that people that own both a PS3 and PSV absolutely must subscribe to PS+. Uh, yes? Did you think you need one PS+ subscription for each device? You only need one per account so make sure you're using the same account on both PS3 and Vita.IceDay wrote:Wait...So I pay once for PS+ (for a year, of course) and I get the PS+ stuff on PS3 AND Vita?ZellSF wrote: I can't recommend enough times that people that own both a PS3 and PSV absolutely must subscribe to PS+. Seemed to fix it by turning PSP color space option on and then off again, which shouldn't have actually done anything, but I'm guessing it reset something. Can't really decides at times if to use my PSP or Vita for PSP games.Never had that myself
The Vita has much better motion resolution and colors, but the screen is too large for the low resolution PSP games and it's too dark compared to a softmodded PSP outputting max brightness. That and my Vita has way too warm color tones (hopefully eventually getting replaced by a later Vita revision, so I'm not too worried).

As long as you're a PS+ subscriber, so no, you don't pay just once.IceDay wrote:Wait...So I pay once for PS+ (for a year, of course) and I get the PS+ stuff on PS3 AND Vita?ZellSF wrote: I can't recommend enough times that people that own both a PS3 and PSV absolutely must subscribe to PS+. That said, it's still ridiculously good value. And as IceDay mentioned, you get amazing discounts on purchased titles, which of course are yours to keep even after your membership lapses. It's only the games in the Instant Game Collection that become inaccessible.
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
So buying a 32GB memory card without waiting for TGS was definitely a mistake. 64GB confirmed. 2000 Vita confirmed, smaller with LCD. I want one assuming the LCD is decent quality.
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Also:Vita TV announced. For people who wants to play Vita exclusives but hate handhelds. Potentially the best option for playing (PSN) PSP games on a TV.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
At ~$100, the Vita TV seems mighty attractive, especially since I already have a PS3 controller to use with it.
On the other hand, I like handhelds. Especially since I'm rarely home.
Also, the idea of getting an overpriced-as-fuck Vita memory card for any reason still makes me nauseous. Hell, getting a Memory Stick for my PSP was an issue too since they're all stupid expensive, but at least there you could get a mSD->MS converter and slam a relatively cheap 32GB card in.
Seriously, if it was $50 for a 32GB Vita memory card [still a bit much, but it's not going to be microSD cheap, no matter how much I want it to be], I probably wouldn't be complaining so much.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
If it helps, think more of overall value, yeah Vita memory cards are expensive as hell, but I've spent 4 times more money on 3DS games than I have on Vita games. PS Plus IGC + PS Plus sales + Vita game prices dropping relatively fast. Also I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get a used card for 50$ pretty soon, if shipping from here wasn't so expensive I would sell you mine. Anyway, some thoughts:
Vita TV
Vita TV
- Means I need two memory cards, so the 32 GB wasn't a total waste.
- Content manager needs to work well, wireless communication with my PS Vita 2000 is essential.
- Sony needs to up portable device activation limit or give this separate activation limit (unless you're not allowed to own a PSP, Vita and Vita TV at the same time).
- Target market for this seems very unclear.
- Different compatibility list / device means I'll probably have to wait for a US release, I don't think importing it will work before US PSN have made changes to accommodate it (hope it doesn't bomb so drastically the US release gets dropped).
- Hopefully means less touch controls in future Vita game releases and I really hope it means button controls for the unlock screen.
- Why not allow Vita as a wireless controller?
- 1 hour more battery time, but I would take that with a huge grain of salt. Battery lifetime is something manufacturers obsess over to the point of doing stupid things for it (like limiting the max brightness, the speed of the hardware and disallowing wifi under certain conditions). I'm fearing the LCD brightness will be limited as bad as the PSP 3000 was.
- Select and start buttons both look much larger, might be usable without hurting your fingers now.
- 1 GB storage built-in, probably to get rid of the "Vita needs expensive memory card to even work" stigma. Not very interesting to more dedicated gamers.
- My opinion on this depends entirely on the screen type. Decent quality matte IPS screen please. Definitely going to need to see this in person before buying.
