Triggerheart Exelica

Post by Spyke »

I have the XBLA version of Triggerheart Exelica and am wondering how it compares to the Dreamcast and PS2 versions?

I read that the PS2 version has slowdown compared with the DC version, so that makes the DC version more attractive to me, but are there any differences between the XBLA and DC versions?

The XBLA version will play in TATE mode but still has the menus in horizontal, which is a pita. If the DC version fixed that alone it would be worth the price to me! ;)

The DC rev is the only homeport that supports tateable menus.

Original XBLA version thread.

Original PS2 (Triggerheart Exelica Enhanced) version thread.

Yes there are many differences between the xbox version and the dc version.
If you really like THE, then by all means you should get the dc version, they cut a lot out of the Xbox version.
The dc version has:
-different background artwork
-a little additional in-game character graphics
-original arcade sound effects (which I think are better)
-original arcade gameplay (timing of attacks is slightly different on xbox)
-original arcade demo/attract sequence
-original arcade scoring system
-arrange mode
-story mode
etc.

The ps2 version is similar to the xbox version, except slow and not HD. It adds Faintear as a 3rd playable girl. But the main thing the ps2 version has going for it is the extended story mode with lots of cutscenes and CG. If it's the characters you like the best (and you can read Japanese) you should get it.

Thanks for the info. Very useful. Looks like the DC version is for me (and the PS2 version if I see it cheap somewhere)

I see a couple of listings on ebay for a Dreamcast "Enhanced" edition. I thought the enhanced edition was the PS2 version?

You are correct. The PS2 version is the official "Enhanced" version. There was a regular and limited version of the Dreamcast Trigger Heart Exelica. The limited edition included the OST and had a slightly different insert.

New to the Dreamcast version of Exelica is a Story Mode, an Arrange Mode, and in-game voice samples.
So in a sense the Dreamcast release was "enhanced" over the Naomi release.
