TGS 2013 Discussion

Post by ACSeraph »

Looks like I'll be heading to TGS this year. It would be cool to get a group together so if anyone else is going check out this thread.

Tickets are now available here for 1000 yen per day.

So what is everyone looking forward to at TGS this year?

Obviously I'm pretty interested to hear about the PS4, though I can't say I care too much about the Xbox One. Also hoping we see some cool news from Nintendo that will revitalize the WiiU. I want them to give me a reason to go buy it, but so far they just haven't come through... As for less big name stuff, I'm really hoping to see some Guilty Gear Xrd there. That game has the potential to be so very very hype. :D

Yup - you can buy tickets there, but you are better of buying them in advance - they're usually available from a convenience store.

Thursday and Friday are business days this year - 19th Sept , 20th Sept - it used to be possible to role up and show your business card and get in, and whilst it's still possible for some, it's harder to get in on these days with out pre-registering.

Public days are 21st and 22nd (sat and sun) and they are usually absolutely rammed to the rafters.

Makuhari Messe is a little bit of a treck from some parts of Tokyo - it's definitely worth going if you've never been, it's great to get down in amongst the folks and have some fun.

I've missed a couple over the last 13 years, but i'll probably be there this year but likely covering for RSG Podcast on thursday/friday work depending.

Man, I'm going to try to make it for this. Been meaning to hop to Japan for ages, just busy as crap where I am. 21st and 22nd might well be doable after my trip back to the UK and then back again - I could go to Tokyo first.

Will try to keep Sept 21st in mind no matter what.

I haven't been to TGS ever. Wish I had been able to go during the 32bit era at least, but I was still in school.

I think new hardware launches are always an exciting time to go to shows, so might be one worth queuing for.

Good info thanks. I'll see if I can figure out how to score one from Lawson.

I'm thinking the same thing, so if I go this year is probably the year to do it. I've seen the insane ques before at Comiket so that's nothing new, and its not bad if youve got people to suffer through it with.

I'll probly head down to Tokyo on Friday night and then come back either Sunday evening by night bus or Monday afternoon via shinkansen depending on money. I think I'll check out about tickets tonight and if I can get one I'll set up a topic in shmupmeets to see who else wants to go. We can also chill at Hey in Akiba and see/do some epic shmupping. Also my Japanese is pretty decent, so it won't be hard to get around.

oh yeah, one piece of advice - head gear. Take a hat if it's a nice day.

You maybe forced to line up outside and , whilst it's not a long walk from the station to the hall, the whole place is a white concrete hell hole if the sun is out in full force.

Lot of people get sun/heat stroke at TGS.

I would love to try to go. I won't be in Japan until August 4th, but I'm not going to be very close to Tokyo. I guess it'd have to depend on my work schedule over there, as well as how much it would cost to take a flight/train over there.

What kind of work are you going to be doing? TGS is on a 3-day weekend, so if you night bus in on Friday, and then back out on Sunday you would have Monday to rest up, and night bus tickets are really cheap. I live way far from Tokyo (Akita) but its no big deal.

Same as me then, are you a JET? As an ALT you should have off the 3-day weekend that TGS is on. Bus tickets one way run from 5000 to 6000 yen pretty much regardless of how far away you are. You usually catch the bus around midnight or so and then arrive in Tokyo early morning. Capsule hotels run about 3000 yen a night in inner Tokyo, and actually they are nicer than you would expect. They usually have lockers to store your stuff while your out for the day. So basically anyone willing to rough it a bit can get there pretty easily on a budget.

I checked into tickets last night, but ticket info hasn't been announced yet. I'll post the info here when it is.

Yup, I got into JET this year. :) I may just be over-estimating how long it would take to get from Saga to Tokyo (and back), which is my main worry for that weekend. This will be my first time in Japan, so thanks for the tips on the domestic travel (and I welcome any more). Even if I can see the game show for just one day, I'd be pretty happy, haha...

Ah congrats on getting into JET. I can remember well what a stressful process that is. I'm going into my 3rd year on JET out here in the middle of nowhere, so if you need any advice about anything you can PM me.

I just looked up some information about getting from Saga to Tokyo and it kinda sucks. Apparently Saga has neither night busses nor shinkansen, so your only option would be taking a flight from Fukuoka to Tokyo. Obviously that's a bit more expensive than the other options, though travel time wouldn't be an issue since its only about 4 hours including train time from Saga.

If you decide you want to go and need help with travel arrangements, ask me and I'll do what I can to help. That goes for anyone else interested in going too. Ticket info isn't available yet, but will be posted here soon.

I'll be there both days, but I've got to meet someone on Saturday night and catch a night bus Sunday evening, so I'm mainly only open for meeting up during the day. If you want to meet up PM me and we can set up a place to meet.
