Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
I just downloaded it for a mere € 4,99 which is a hell of a lot better than the $ 800,- boxed ones on the fleabay .
Star Solder was also new and for the same price so for less than a tenner you have two new shmups on the 3DS

Got this ($6.50 AU) and Radar Mission (IIRC $4.50 AU) yesterday. Happy happy.
I did notice however, that Nintendo thought it fit to censor the flash effects. White/black flashes are gone, red/black flashes are gone - both replaced with slow blue/purple/black flashing. Guess they didn't want any seizurekids.

Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
Is there official word on a US release yet? Definitely want to play this someday.
Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
I believe it has ben officially confirmed to be coming to North America, although no date has been officially given. I would hope since Europe just got it on Aug. 15 that we aren't too far behindprofessor ganson wrote:Is there official word on a US release yet? Definitely want to play this someday.

Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
Yeah, they showed it in the recent nintendo direct linked earlier in this thread. But all they said was that you "won't have to wait long".Vyxx wrote:I believe it has ben officially confirmed to be coming to North America, although no date has been officially given. Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
Awesome, thanks. So far I've (mostly) resisted even watching youtube of the game. Can't wait to play it!
Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
That's not the official announcement, only the AU rating that has been around for awhile. It was officially announced for US release during Nintendo Direct. The announcement is around 11:56.ookitarepanda wrote:Source: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/0 ... 3ds_eshopsVyxx wrote:I believe it has ben officially confirmed to be coming to North America, although no date has been officially given. Edit: doh. The Nintendo direct was already posted earlier in this thread. I hope Recca comes this week, but I'm guessing Ninja Gaiden II is next since it has a video on the US eShop.
Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
This is great. I'm fairly surprised a game like this is finally getting localized.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

I saw the Recca coming soon on the USA region 3DS eShop site today...it hasn't appeared for sale just yet. Will keep checking to see if it's buyable.

hehehe, just bought on 3ds and I like it. I never played the rom, so its cool experiencing this for the first time. I'm in the soundtest as I type
Hopefully if enough people buy it they might release some more shooters on 3ds, god knows they need it...

Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
I picked this up, and so far it just makes me wish that it was available for a different (current) system. This game just doesn't strike me as a good fit for the small screen. I assume you can't get this for Wii U, right?
Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
Unfortunately, no. Nintendo's e-shop strategy is still a disjointed pile of crap.professor ganson wrote:I picked this up, and so far it just makes me wish that it was available for a different (current) system. I really wish this was playable on my TV as well - the 3DSXL screen works, but it would be SO much better on a big screen.

I remember being excited about shmup releases on the Wii once upon a time, but somewhere they went astray. These days I mainly follow Sony e-releases. Zanac Neo on the Vita really raised the bar for me.soupbones wrote:Nintendo's e-shop strategy is still a disjointed pile of crap.

You should look into the XL. I hated the original 3DS D-Pad because it gave me bad hand cramps. The XL's D-Pad feels much better and the screen is noticeably larger.Serraxor wrote:I have the OG 3DS, and the d-pad on the thing is friggin' GARBAGE. The NES/Fami controller would be much better, making me think I may need to look into getting an actual cart for the fullest experience.... maybe I'll just have to swallow that bullet (ha) at a later date...

Never mind the circle pad doubles for the d-pad on emulated and older DS games.
Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
I've downloaded this, am really enjoying it, and am really wishing I had a bloody XL, because it's a little tough to distinguish the bonus-icon as it rotates through the available weapons. What I'd really like is this to get a Wii U release. What I'd like even more is to treat myself to the original Recca, but I can't afford that!

Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
Seriously. It would be bad enough to buy a legit cart; I'd also have to buy a system. Not that I never thought about it. Once, in a confused state some years ago, I placed an eBay bid on an illegit cart, thinking it was legit. Fortunately, the seller acknowledged that the listing was misleading and gave me a reimbursement.spadgy wrote: What I'd like even more is to treat myself to the original Recca, but I can't afford that!

Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
Since the Gamefaqs listing on how to do it is confusing and wrong, here's the easiest way to get to the second set of levels in the game:
- At the title screen, highlight Normal Game, then press and hold Start and then immediately press and hold Select. This will get you to the music test screen.
- At the music test screen, keep holding Start but let go of Select. Press and hold A+B, then press Select to advance the stage select by one level (indicated in the lower right). Stage 5 is Area 1, aka the first of the second set of levels.
Might take you a few tries but it's easy once you know how.
To get to Zanki mode:
- At the title screen, highlight Normal Game, then press and hold A+B+Start+Select+Up. You don't have to hit them all at the same time, just have them all down by the time the game starts. The easiest way to do it is Start <pause> Select+A+B+Up, that way you avoid accidentally switching off Normal Game.

Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
That Zanki Mode code is a total pain to do on 3DS XL... then again, playing the game on 3DS isn't optimal to begin with.
Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
The Y button also works as the NES select button in the 3DS emulator. Not sure if that helps, though it does make it easier to adjust speed during gameplay.
edit: The Y button definitely makes the codes easier to enter on 3DS.

Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
Does anyone know if there's a way to properly hard reset the 3DS version? The high score never clears for me, wondering if there's an easy way to do that.
Really wish they had added an extra score digit for the second set of levels since it's basically impossible not to counter stop them.

Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
May I ask what stops people who bought it and would like to play on a big screen from playing it emulated?
Another question, does the 3DS version retain sprite limit? Well, if it does, isn't it one more reason to use emulator?

Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
3DS version has more sprite flicker than the emulated version yes. It also has completely different background flicker, boss damage flickers very slowly (something like 2hz) and bombs are also much slower (maybe like 5hz). All versions of the game are totally fine regardless of flicker of any sort. Timing seems virtually identical between all versions as well.
3DS version is good for people who want to play on the go and/or want a legal copy of the game that doesn't cost a fortune.

Re: Recca on 3DS eShop
I just bought this because clearly Virtual Console games are never on sale. Holy shit, how did they manage these graphics on the NES? I am very impressed. As a side note, I thought this game was excruciatingly hard, yet on my first playthrough I reached the end of stage 3. Am I...am I actually getting better at shmups?
OMG, does the 2DS have a better D-Pad? I pray that they include that on the inevitable new XL revision. Otherwise, I might have to get it.Serraxor wrote:This is the best way to play Recca (and, well, any shmup) on 3DS.
2DS has the best D-Pad and comfiest feel for extended play. 3D for too long just aggravated me anyway.
