Full speed, something that was not possible even in the arcade revisions. I'd say: buy it now and you will see (again) the creation of new lives!!1! [/hypnosis mode]
OK! I guess have no choice other than to buy the Taito pack then.

Nope, no peer pressure here! (can you chose NOT to see the creation of new lives???)

That's one of the first psx shmups I bought... and I actually really like that cover art...

Oh, and Darius Gaiden > G. Darius ... for a few reasons, one of them being that I'm not a big fan of SFA style combos in my shmups :P The bosses become less challenging, and kinda less fun (though it's still tonnes of fun). This also applies to the ease with which you can take over other ships. I know it's part of it, but.... I'm just not a gimmicky guy. Gaiden tries less hard and is a better game. Now, ARTISTICALLY, G.Darius is superb :P Music is some of the best, graphics and design are awesome, it's just so epic, and it really is an experience to play it... It has replay value, but more for this artistic experience than for the gameplay, imo.

Ah, I love Darius Gaiden (definetly top 5) and Border Down (same here), and G.Darius looks to be something in between! Unfortunately, I don't own a PS2, and I don't want one either, so I'm thinking about getting the arcade game, if the slowdown isn't too noticable (well is it, Rando?:)).

Also, what's the difference between G.Darius and G.Darius ver. 2?

G. Darius version 2 seems to be a lot harder, though that could just be higher defaults, I didn't check.

Anyways, the PS2 version is better, and a jps2 + Taito memories shouldn't be too much more expensive than the PCB. Plus you get arguably the best shooter console ever.

Ver.2 should have time-based system for bosses, so it's better to destroy them quickly, than doing complex scoring tecniques. It should also run at full speed, while the first version has some wait-mode on (not slowdown, actually) in pretty hectic situations (i.e. Cave-like slowdown).

Beside that (and i said in the review) G.Darius has one of the most elaborate (and yet, still simple) gameplays around, G.Rev used it as a base for Border Down,so...
"The only desire the Culture could not satisfy from within itself was one common to both the descendants of its original human stock and the machines [...]: the urge not to feel useless."

will say oen thing. G-Daris is a bit harder in the arcade, since you must bash the fire button manually for alpha/beta beam duels.

I've played the PC version, which, since no one will sell it to me, I'm playing sans music, but it seems to run pretty well. (i've bought PC raiden 2, because Interplay Has sold that one to me)

The arcade machine IS a bit beefier than the ps1 (maybe clocked higher and/or with more memory), so it did slow down less than the home version.

Faster than MAME due to it's ability to offload 3D to OpenGL/Direct3D capable video cards. This also means the ability to use higher-res modes, extra texture filters, etc.

1600x1200 G-Darius with Anisotropic filtering, anyone? :)
Sweet. The music works in this?
I don't know. MAME and ZiNc share developers (R. Belmont does coding for both) and I think share driver code, and probably the same development issues. I haven't tried it yet, but I'll see if I can give it a go over the weekend and let you know.
