XRGB-3 Input Voltage and PSU

Post by goo3r »

Hello,

New member here, but I am in a bit of a quandary. I hope this hasn't been covered here, I did some searching, but haven't found anything concrete. I've been noticing some video issues as have found it was probably the PSU. I opened it up to see two big caps blown. Instead of replacing the caps I wanted to replace the whole PSU.

I live in the United States so our voltage is 120V @ 60Hz AC. Since the XRGB-3 comes from Japan and their voltage is 100V @ 60 Hz AC I'm assuming that may be partially responsible for the blown caps. The PSU says it supports 120V AC but also says it needs and input voltage of 100V AC so I don't know what to trust. I included a picture to show you what I mean.

It outputs 11V DC with a max of 2A. I am having trouble finding a PSU that outputs 11V DC with at least 2A max. I don't know what the current draw is on an XRGB-3 so I'm just trying to match it up.

I went on Digi-Key and ordered a world rated input (90V - 256V 50/60Hz AC) 12V 2A DC output PSU.

My question is I don't know if there is any tolerance for the XRGB-3 in terms of the DC input to the unit. Will the extra volt fry the unit? Does anyone have experience with this. Any help with pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

The 115V in the US didn't hurt the PSU. They just had bad caps to begin with. They'll all fail sooner or later.

It's not this hard to pick up a 11V PSU. ebay lists a few from $15 to $20, but you'll have to replace the connector.

OK, thanks Fudoh! So, replacing the bad caps should fix the problem to begin with. I might just do that as it would be cheaper than buying a new PSU from eBay. I appreciate the help!

cap replacement will be fine as well.

Same problem with the DVDO PSUs - and they're even harder to find (6V at 7A).

I had to replace the caps in mine, and it fixed all the video issues I was having. Caps only cost me a few bucks.
