My room for playing shumps

Post by arcade-stg »

OK, my room is for playing shumps and other arcade games :-) but mainly shumps.

In fact, I have developed a small web page to show the details: http://akihabarainhome.com

Wow, I wish I had an entire room dedicated to just playing video games :D
I'm on the edge of my budget and all I have is a small three room apartment with no room for all our stuff...

Maybe I should just move to the countryside and give up any contact with the outside world in exchange for a large house with all the rooms I need.

Wow, that's very neat.

Is that the attic or something? You made really good use of that space where the ceiling comes all the way down.

Damn. Very, very nice! How long did it take to assemble everything? Any pictures before you changed the room?

You are right, it's the attic of my home. :)

I don't have a record about the global time. But as a reference, I know veru well that it took me 7 hours non stop only to assemble the candys.

This thread reminds me, back in the day, Legakill (for you uber old-timers!) created theblastshack for showing off setups such as these. Wow, it's been 10 years of shmupping since then! :D

That's a very nice and clean layout but are you sure you want your games to be out right under sunlight? I've had pictures lying about noticeably deteriorate in color within just months under a sunroof.

I guarantee that those SS spines in particular will quickly color fade, even if the sunroof is made with UV-resistant glass. That's the main reason I never leave my games out in the open, even if such a setup would look much better and be more convenient.

Thanks for the heads up Ganelon. I taked that detail into account and both the roof and wall windows feature fancy screen curatins to dim the light always.

undamned, great link that one. In fact, I performed some research ("state of the art") about gameroom in a spanish forum:

A nice Egret II is now at my game room.

There are still some details to deal with, but these are the new pictures:

Great use of space, looks classy too, many game rooms just look.... bad. Not here.

Looks like a bunch of Ikea "Lack" shelves?

I was thinking of using a few of those in my living room.

I noticed all those Saturn / Dreamcast games have spines on the outside. Are those all still sealed?

I was specifically looking for an 1p CP. My friends have some concerns about the 1p CP. But they will understand as soon as we play to to know which one go further at ketsui with only one coin
CIT wrote:Awesome room! What happened to your CRT? Or do you play consoles on the cabs too now?
I have relocated the CRT at the bottom of the room. Right now, the CRT is for playing dreamcast games with two arcade sticks.

You are right, they are Ikea "lack" shelves. In my opinion, they look nice without any visible support to the wall and they are also "hack-friendly" to cut them to any specific size.

Fudoh is right. They are resealable baggies. These bags help to protect the games and they also provide a nice look to them.

Some pictures of the insides and videos of the candy cabs up and running:

Did the Egret 2 candy cab have to disassembled & re-assembled inside the attic, arcade-stg?

I recall having to disassemble my E2's control panel just so that the cab portion (with 29" Nanao monitor still in place) would fit through a single doorway into a room upstairs where it currently resides (and re-attaching the E2 control panel back in place -- easy as pie).

Whatever it takes to get the job done right the first time when navigating the confines of a single doorway with a candy cab.

That is an awesome room. I really like the minimal look. Personally I wouldn't go crazy like other collectors on YouTube and jam in too much crap for no reason, keep it tasteful like you have it now, it looks perfect ;)

You have the arcade set-up I eventually want. I am a huge fan of Groovymame+CRT_Emudrivers, I have the exact set-up in my NAC except I use Maximus-arcade, but Ideally I'd want another cab for vertical stuff.

I couldn't disassemble the candy. In the case of NAC pieces are joined by screws, but E2 pieces are joined by solder. This time I disassemble both the CP and monitor only.

Thank you Ex_Mosquito, I guess you vill get another cab for vertical games very soon ;)

Regarding the combo of Groovymame+CRT_Emudrivers, I also believe is the best mame solution for a 15khz set-up so far. However, I am still working to get instant boot up. As you can see on the youtube video, I am close but it still takes several seconds.
