SHMUP gameplay poster print MAME

Post by Jelly »

Hello!

I've been looking for a way to frame the actual gameplay from a favorite SHMUP on my wall (R-Type perhaps), to proudly display one of my favorite interests. Does anyone know how to make a screenshot look as good as possible on paper? I suppose that the way to go is to apply the proper filters and settings in MAME.
Can anyone direct me in the right direction?
Is scanlines the way to go?
Anyone who's done this before and can provive after results and their MAME settings?

VanillaThunder from Neo-Geo.com seems to be able to provive the actual printing once I get him a high res picture of my motif.

1.Take a snapshot in MAME (240p is fine for now)
2.Import it into a picture editor (Photoshop is what I use)
3.Open image properties and change the size to 300dpi and the size of the paper it's being printed to and set the filter to "Nearest neighbor"
4.Apply scanlines top to bottom if vertical or left to right if horizontal by drawing lines onto a layer then turning the opacity of that layer to ~30%

Optional step, make something creative with your screenshot, like rotate it (and the scanlines obviously) then paste a new layer with the logo (for example) on top.

Here's one of mine that came out awesome on print: http://emphatic.se/outzone.png

Wow, thanks! That picture of yours sure did look great. I'm going to try a photoshop scanline route, despite my utter incompetence with the program.
