Live 2013 Roar Nationals @ Silver Dollar Track in Chico, CA

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Here's a link to watch the 1/10th scale electric off-road racing event, the 2013 Roar Nationals at the Silver Dollar R/C track in Chico, CA. It was live a bit early today for the qualifying runs...will be more live R/C racing coverage on Sunday for the main event. There's a Costco right across fronm the Silver Dollar R/C track...talk about free advertising. Can't beat their cheap-ass $1.50 hot dog and soda included deal any ol' day.

I noticed that Jared Tebo placed 7th in the modified 2WD off-road buggy catagory with his heavily modified Kyosho Ultima RB6 buggy to qualify earlier today. It'd certainly be history in the making if the Ultima RB6 were to win in the modified 2WD class main event race tomorrow (you might recall when Joel Johnson won with the Kyosho Ultima at the 1987 1:10 IFMAR Off-Road championship that year). Of course nowadays, he's got his hands full running the AKA company that produces R/C off road tires.

A link to a cool Kyosho 4WD prototype (note the front drive shafts + the Big Bore shocks mounted front and rear -- Kyosho hasn't released it for sale yet either): http://www.liverc.com/photos/albums/64- ... C_3850/lg/

And here's the Ultima RB6 (with front and rear mounted Big Bore shocks installed): http://www.liverc.com/photos/albums/64- ... C_4463/lg/

The really odd thing about both Kyosho's earlier race-spec Ultima RB5 off-road buggy and the current RB6, is that they both use the very same ball differential setup -- which is prone to major meltdown if used with certain motor + Li-Po battery setups (assuming if the ball diff isn't tightened enough from the get-go). It's a given. I thought that Kyosho would've address that very particular issue and came up with an all new ball differential design with the September 2012 USA debut of the RB6 kit to better accomodate such a Li-Po pack + motor setup but they didn't. WTF!? As it stands, it's quite common to replace the ball diff every two to three races just to be on the safe side when racing either the RB5 or RB6 these days (which means having some spares on hand if it needed be). Considering that the RB5's ball diff dates back to May of 2007 when the RB5 kit made if's official debut in the USA during that month. Hmmm.....
