Oh shit.
Re: Oh shit.
"The company says the amount is within legal limits, but is much higher than is released under normal operations." (from the CBSNews one) .. I'm still not feeling very encouraged though.
About a month after the disaster, I saw all these articles asserting "see? this shows how safe nuclear power is!". Kinda early
And (maybe a different topic..?), nothing scares me more than engineers who insist that everything works like it does on paper with whatever limited model they're able to conceive of.

Of course nuclear power is safe in your country right? Only in Japan they messed up.

Re: Oh shit.
Nuclear power is reasonably safe as long as you have very strict regulation oversight making sure that safety standards are up-to-date. Obviously there is always a risk of something going wrong, but the point is to try and minimize that risk.ancestral-knowledge wrote:Of course nuclear power is safe in your country right? Until people smarten up and homes are built with solar cells on the roofs by default (why aren't they?! such a waste of potential electricity), we're going to need power generation - you can't just say "close all the nuclear plants!" when something bad happens if your country's infrastructure is built around it unless you think people will be totally a-ok with sudden brown/blackouts. There's also coal plants, but instead of the risk of radioactivity, they pump out a constant stream of pollutants into the atmosphere. Maybe with improved air scrubbing technology coal plants will be more popular again, but nuclear's quite viable right now as we've got lots of radioactive materials around to use. Eventually we ought to rely less on non-renewable energy obviously, hopefully better advancements in turbines, solar cells, etc, will allow us to do so.
Now, now, let's not forget the more meaningful bit:railslave wrote:"the name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter."
Revelation 8 :11
"The third angel sounded, and a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of waters. The name of the star is Wormwood..."
Yep, God's a murdering asshole, nothing new there according to the Bible. So, are you seriously saying that you think the nuclear disaster wasn't caused by human error but rather the act of an asshole angel/deity with a boner for radioactive contamination? Or are you just quoting the Bible to try and sound deep and meaningful?

Re: Oh shit.
Obviously the typhoon coming from movement of the seafloor is just like a star falling from heaven.

Ultimately its all of God , or he wouldnt be God , hes in control of it all (as God). Otherwise hed be this powerless hippy diety. Nope he doesnt mess about ..and he looks in his toolbox and sees some evil, money grabbing, exploitative people that fit the job, judas, The babylonians, the naziz perhaps, whatevers going on behind the scenes these days.
this verse explains it well, we have to remember that what we were brainwashed with in Sunday wasnt exactly true, The Bible wasnt written as a kids story , no matter what you think of it .
"But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?”Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?
What if God, although choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction? What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory— even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?" Romans 9:20-22
Im not saying anything, just watching out for the signs (earthquakes everywhere like last year )
Wormwood apparently is the same word as Chernobyl, so if anything, that had more of a dramatic effect...
But, yeah this world has to come to a head sometime.

still time to debut that new killer apocalyptic look before it hits the fan .
