You can't help what, deciding to jump into a conversation and be a facetious asshole by insinuating a passage of text critiquing the structure of a scoring system means that the author is a pussy who can't take the heat?

Several times I cited the opposite: "I'm warming up to it", "I need to watch some replays" etc. All of which suggest I'm willing to tackle the game on whatever terms it offers. I didn't say I was giving up because I didn't like it.

It's cool though, you can admit to being a dick in your own time.
BareknuckleRoo wrote:I agree. It's a lot harder to be sure of where it's best for scoring/your hit chain to cash in on your hypers without either a lot of experimentation or simply looking at superplay runs to get a better idea, whereas DFK is more a matter of hyper early on, then chain the rest of the stage while saving hypers to get a moment of safety if necessary. Execution is still tough because well, it's DDP chaining, but DFK's chaining doesn't require so much 'know when to hyper' I think.
Hmm, interesting perspective. Currently I can't say I do agree with this, since I found playing DOJ that if you chain properly hyper drops come exactly as you need them, and it's even easy to stockpile them, for instance to blow your load in the death corridor at the end of stage two.

I found hyper usage in DOJ actually quite obvious, since I know when there's a real weak spot that desperately needs the bridge. It's just a case of making sure you have the hyper stocked at the right time, and don't blow it in a hasty bomb usage.

DFK has a lot more variables going on. It's simple enough to know you don't want to hyper after the midboss, but you're also working to drag out boss fights until they start spilling laser patterns, and there are some nasty chaining spots that are difficult to cross raw. I play Strong Type, which might have something to do with it, as it's good at wiping out popcorn pretty fast - but I like its advantages.

But yeah, I think DOJ is strict as hell, but still more straightforward than DFK. The general consensus seems to think so too.

Have you considered playing Arrange A? Unlike 1.5, it actually does reward hypering, as you want to use hypers to build up your hit chain, then use hypers to cash in on bullets (by shooting at bullets in Normal mode which won't cancel them, but give you points based on your current hit count). I find it a lot of fun, possibly more than 1.5 (and stage 5's laser rings are killable, which is nice). Obviously not possible if you're playing DFK at an arcade though, but the scoring actually rewards lots of hyper usage without feeling like DFK BL where you want to cancel bullets constantly, as scoring well in Arrange A means hypering and not cancelling the bullets, instead being in front of thick clouds where you can milk them.

You might like it more, and I honestly find it a blast to play. I only really got into it when SFKhoa was playing it at a meet and showing off how crazy the scoring can get.

You just chose to throw a fit instead of addressing the actual point, which you also avoided quoting.

Of course DOJ is simple if you choose to just use the hypers at the hardest spots. This can be done in DFK too but it's still not the best way to play either game.

Ahahah, that really struck a nerve. wow. "Someone might be insinuating I'm not manly enough for this game. let's get all worked up and show him who's the man here. I got a bruce lee avatar and shit"

I've always been educated to respect other people opinion, especially when they come from someone clearly more experienced than me. (even when those opinions are not pleasant to hear :/)
But I guess we come from different cultures.

Wasn't really looking forward to butt into someone else discussion but that was really rubbing me the wrong way.

Who are you again?
Erppo wrote:You just chose to throw a fit instead of addressing the actual point, which you also avoided quoting.
I avoided nothing. You should know by now I don't give a flying cock how big your scoreline is, it doesn't get you a pass if you decide to saunter over with erroneous interpretations of some words that I wrote.

Go back and re-read the post where you entered the discussion, and try to find some value in it.

This thread is for asking simple questions, which two posters answered competently. A brief appraisal of what I find tricky or abstruse about DFK's scoring system isn't an invitation for you to be a big swinging dick and start dropping one-liners about how I want the game to reward me for doing nothing.

I'll just leave a quick summary of my main points here in case you want to actually discuss things after your blood pressure has lowered a bit.
Erppo wrote:Hypers make almost everything in the game piss easy so naturally there's a cost in using them. If a part is too hard for you, you're allowed to hyper it but you'll lose some potential score. This is all perfectly logical design.

It actually is kinda weird that the game discourages you from using hypers once you've got a decent chain going. Most of the time when games have some special attack you're meant to use it as much as you can, not use it a little and then ignore it. I mean, it's obvious why they did it, but it's still sorta strange.
There's still no need to cry about it and then go super fucking defensive when you get called out though.

I must be reading a different thread. First you write a paragraph agreeing with me that the scoring mechanism is unusual and abstruse, then you say I got "called out", when all I got was a dumb non-related comment to the same points you just made.

Doesn't compute chap.

Well, your complaints mostly seem to come down to being mad you don't get full points if you need to hyper to make things easier. I'm saying the game doesn't use its special attack enough. You're saying you should be able to hyper when chaining gets hard. We're both complaining, but for different reasons.

Which you yourself did, actually. He made it pretty clear that he was dealing with the game and not entirely liking what he's dealing with; you thought it'd be appropriate to go into a typical l2p fit, for whatever ridiculous reason.

Wow. No, all the scores in the world does not mean you get to mislabel ignorance and insults as "advice", especially when there's no actual advice given (Erppo knows Skykid already knows all that crap, I'm not even sure why he's playing this pattern). There's no opinion to respect here, nor are there facts to absorb. See the actual discussion for that.

May as well never talk about DFK, at least not publicly.

Skykid wrote:In DOJ, you hyper to keep your chain, you hyper to increase your combo and your score, and you hyper to bridge. It can form a very natural band aid through the tougher enemy formations. DOJ requires precision, but learning good hyper usage can see you through some tough spots.

In DFK you can't fucking hyper. There's all this shit coming at you from the mid-boss onward, and any time there's dead air, it's so easy to drop your meter because the cocking gauge is full. I'm sort of warming up to the whole thing, but at times it just seems totally backwards.
What am I meant to get out of this? You seem to approve of DOJ because you can hyper to bridge or just when you're in a tough spot. You don't seem to approve of DFK because you can't use hypers to save your chain in those circumstances without taking a score hit. I can't interpret this any other way, dude.

I could understand complaining about that, but he's not, really. Like I quoted, he talks about how you can hyper to bridge/get out of tough spots in DOJ. That's not using hypers for the sake of them being a cool mechanic, that's using them to make chaining easier. Or what, you think he wants to use hypers during the dead air parts of DFK just because he likes shooting nothing rather than as a get out of dropping chain free card? Yeah, probably not.

Despatche wrote:you thought it'd be appropriate to go into a typical l2p fit, for whatever ridiculous reason
Actually - and I don't mind being the first to say it - it's not the first time Errpo has decided to gently passively aggressively throw belittling in people's directions here. I've noticed the softly, softly l2p quips spill from his fingers on several occasions, probably whenever he feels the need to reassert his scoring prowess among the masses. Not that having a video game high score actually matters in the grand scheme of things: won't get you a blow job or a Nobel prize, which is precisely why I'm not going to bend over and put up with dumbass comments.

You want to be able to hyper for free during dead air bits to keep your chain going. There's no other way to take that other than that you can't be bothered learning to chain so you want an easy way to not bother. No other way.
But whatever, carry on complaining and acting like getting good scores is a bad thing. That totally doesn't make you look even more insecure than freaking the fuck out earlier because you thought someone suggested you found a game too hard did.

Or even if I hadn't been, I would have never went ahead and called him an asshole and a dick, that's for sure.

This is going to sound stupid but I recently bought an Xbox (Europe) and is it possible to buy DFK using Microsoft points?
I only ask because it's an old Xenon model that lacks Wifi (and HDMI for that matter) so I can't currently check until I get another ethernet cable tommorow. (The store you can access from the computer only displays £14.99 too :/)
Whilst I'm splurging on points, I would be most greatful if anyone could recommend me any titles available on the marketplace that are worth getting. c:

Here is my question:

I own a Japanese 360 and every Japanese Cave release and 5pb's Ketsui release.
Should I get DOJBLEX to complete the set considering how expensive it is and how bad I am at it?

I won a buy it now auction for a new copy for £37 shipped from Japan but the seller dodgily pulled out after realizing how much he undervalued it.
It seems I will need to pay £80 to get a new copy on ebay :(

Yes you should get it! It's one of my favorites (and after downloading the patch it's a good port, don't listen to the haters). I think if you are patient you can find it for around $50-60USD.
