Some guy has reviewed it on amazon japan here;

http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASI ... 77-0647456

Crappy google translation aside, he gives it 4 out of 5 and compares it to
vasara and giga wing, but says it doesn't really do anything new in the genre

Specifically how close does this play to the Vasaras, 'cause recently bothered to test them out in MAME and wasn't very enthused with the enemy chaining. That's basically what the scoring system is about, right?

I'll preorder it once I get the cash together. Game looks very interesting, I'm one of the few fans of Psyvariar 2 also.

Gotta respect Taito for porting shit left and right.

Taito memories
Mushihimesama
Raiden 3
GWG

And now Homura. Which makes it every single shmup on Type X ported, doesn't it? Best shmups company ever.

I think it could be the close range sword attacks that repel/wipe out bullets in vasara he's talking about.

If anyone can give a decent translation it would be appreciated.

That looks like Shikigami crossed w/ Legendary Wings & sprinkle in a bit of vertigo ala Raystorm. Personally, I don't care if the backgrounds are a tad bland (ala Raiden). The gameplay is what counts. Now that I know my wife bought me a PS2 for Christmas  I'll have to add that to my import list

Looks good. I especially like the fountain of blood coming from the first level boss.
Feedback will set you free.

Famitsu review:

5/6/5/5 (21/40)

Pretty crappy scores. They rate a lot of shmups lower than some other genres, but I can't recall one ever getting a bunch of 5s.
I think I'll wait and see what people here think of it before I consider buying it.

Hm, bit of a surprise. Maybe someone can translate the review later.

In any case, Cthulhu has already posted his impressions here.

I've also given this game a bit of play and posted my impressions further down in this thread: http://forum.shmups.com/forum/viewtopic ... =radiology
Anyway, Homura in a nutshell: Super-fast gameplay and intuitive game mechanics. Comboing is great fun! Unfortunately the game looks like a "Simple 1500" title. Colors are mostly brownish, grayish, and the textures look like a first gen DC game (Maken X, for example). I've heard people say Rajirugi looks too dojin-ish, but no, IMO Homura looks like a Dojin game. I'm sure the Type X can do a lot cooler stuff that this! At least the intro has some decent drawings of Ninjas...
But anyway, if you can see past the graphics I think this game has some nice stuff to offer too. I definitely want to play this some more.
Well, I did play this game some more in the meantime, and now I like it even less. I mean, it's not total crap, but IMO it's just too sparse in graphics as well as gameplay. From the single unchangeable shot, to the single selectable character, to the very short reflect time (you literally only shoot back the bullets that are right in front of you the second you press reflect) everything just kind of lacks "oomph!".

Anyway, I'm not going to get this on release. Might snap it up if it becomes dramatically cheaper at some point down the line, but for now I'll put my cash into the Under Defeat cab.

I played this in an arcade a while ago it was kind of, "blah." The reflect technique was kind of fun to play with, but I only put one credit in the machine and didn't feel much like spending any more money on it. Still, I think it's at least above average from the little I played.

Wow, it would be out in store by next week. :)

I won't make the same mistake to pre-order it at Play-Asia this time. Last time I pre-order Mushihimesama at PA and my copy end up in my mail box A WHOLE WEEK after stocks became avaliable for sale at the local game store!!! :x

PA even dare to charge 20% more than the offer price at the local game store for my pre-order!

I would just pick up the game at the local game store this time. :o

Ibara's port is comming after this one... wow, I am so happy. :D

Due to a late delivery flight, NCSX will be receiving their shipment tomorrow, meaning I'll have mine on Monday.

After YesAsia has been getting so much positive feedback here lately I decided to give them another go with Homura. Now they're sending out emails that the shipping date magically slipped back to the 12th. I could've beaten that even with PAs geriatric-postman-on-a-bycicle shipping, they'd have an 11 day headstart! And they won't let you cancel either, anyone know what the hell's going on at YA?

E-mail yesasia and they'll cancel it for you. I don't know why, but both cancel and split shipment options don't seem to work from their website, but they're very quick about any problems if you e-mail them. I just checked and they shipped my copy, so maybe they didn't order enough and ran out of stock or something.

Eh? I got a shipping confirmation notice from yesasia that mine has been shipped via USPS. Maybe I preordered earlier than you?

So they have been shipping copies. It's ok then, I was thinking they were letting themselves go a little, getting sloppy. I must have preordered later than most alright, so that explains why. No big deal, was a trial run and I can wait. They probably had to get their order in ahead of time and couldn't take all the late comers into account.

Everyone make sure to leave your impressions, there's nothing quite like the feeling of absolute certainty that a 60 dollar turd is winging its way to your mailbox and there's nothing you can do about it  .

Bingo, mine has shipped from yesasia as well, although beware if you chose the free shipping option. I don't know why, but yesasia's stuff takes 3-5 weeks to get to my door using the free shipping, and it's not like I'm in some remote hut in the boonies either.

edit:
To add to yesasia vs play-asia:

yesasia - lower base price, free shipping and customs value declared LOW, but slow to ship if you choose free
play-asia - higher base price and shipping costs extra, but is quicker. However, your items are declared as merchandise at full value, so be prepared for a big hit in taxes when your stuff are delivered.
