Has anyone seen these sell?
I've never seen a VG rating game actually sell.

Not ebay, or an auction, but this wacky thread is probably the best place to post this unfortunate yet hilariously brazen occurrence over at Digital Press. Unfortunately the balls definitely touched this time.

Ugh. Not only over priced, but even has SNES and N64 in the title description to make sure it shows up even when you aren't specifically looking for a NES or Famicom game.DocHauser wrote: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-Mario-Bro ... 2a2c238f67

Seriously? They can't open the fuckin' box. It's not like it's one of those coveted CAVE boxes with branding on the side and such. That's just a damned cardboard box with some packing tape on it.AntiFritz wrote:You'd sure hope there actually were copies of Lunar 2 in that box..DocHauser wrote:Still not as high as these two...

Jesus, was reading around the fallout from the scammer linked in my last post... this is the only gaming forum I've regularly read/posted at since 2009, and I think it's spoiled me. Judging by the reactions to this guy Digital Press, Nintendo Age and Racketboy are retard breeding facilities.
No wonder he had such a good run. One golden nugget among many:
"I just asked for clarification because when I hear "scammed" I automatically assume that you didn't get your money back. Under your definition, I've also been scammed of several hundred dollars where I had to wait several weeks through various paypal processes until they made the other person's account negative. I guess it is a scam still, but it's much better than the alternative of getting no money back."

Re: ebay (and other) auctions with insane prices
I hate to say it but I think your assessment is pretty accurate. Too many people on DP let their greed overcome their brain. Simple ideas like "does this guy have any feedback anywhere," "do these pictures come up in the top Google hits," "why is he selling for a huge loss when he doesn't have to," and "this isn't the thrift store, I have to send money before I get the item" apparently never occur to many people.
Their on topic discussion seems to be getting better but yeah, any place where people show up regularly to post "WHICH IZ DA BESTS CONSOL" threads and "IS GAME X ANY GOOD?" (I love Urzu### though) is probably going to have its share of silly kids. But some of these people have been around for years.

Just searched for a Mega Drive to USB adapter.
A seller has it for $15, free international shipping.
Another has it for $115 + $50 international shipping.

Hmm. I lost a significant amount of money at DP earlier this year and it certainly wasn't greed motivating me in that trade. The sellers posting history and the items he was selling matched up, plus the exif data on the photos was good as well. It's easy to get lulled into a false sense of security when buying niche items.Ed Oscuro wrote:I hate to say it but I think your assessment is pretty accurate. The only odd thing at the start was the seller disarmingly asking me for feedback when I contacted him.
I almost never visit there but there was a few topics in the Classic Computer Gaming section I had googled and unfortunately I randomly had a look at the B-S forum...

In Brighton we had/have a victorian era pier that was fire damaged by vandals and had been derelict for some time. The council put it up for sale for £1 - no takers.
I'll be interested to see if he gets a million dollars for his non-existent videogame 'potential franchise'.
The offers must have been jokes or chancers (maybe $500) as I reckon anything over $50k he would have jumped on.

Best part of that is this bit in the description:
So you're paying 1 MEEEEELLION dollars for... a name? With an atrocious reputation? Sounds like a plan.Options to purchase inventory and/or take over established brick and mortar store currently located in Huntington Beach, CA are available but not included.

Hmm, sorry to hear that. Yeah, I guess there's going to be those odd cases you can't account for. There's no beating dealing with established traders from a community you know - of course even these people can flake out from time to time.mezzanine wrote:Hmm. I've lost a good deal of money in bad purchases from time to time. Right now I'm waiting on somebody to hopefully get back to me over something from long ago.

Those are a massive ripoff, it's just a collection of wikipedia articles. So yeah, your search history may have contributed to that being a thing.
Re: ebay (and other) auctions with insane prices
Weren't some strategy guides / FAQs making the rounds too, a while back? I seem to recall ESP Ra. De... I wonder when my Metal Black paper will be published - I do hope they mail me a copy!

I'm sold!High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles!

"Yet they went bankrupt?" Pffft, obviously a shitty company ROFL!Toaplan (, T apuran?), sometimes written as Toa Plan, was a video game developer from Japan. They were responsible for the creation of a wide array of relatively famous scrolling shooters and arcade games, yet the company declared bankruptcy in 1994.

Haha, I was just looking at that the other day. Seeing things like that disproportionately tips the balance of "the free online encyclopedia that anybody can edit (OR SELL, LOL)" from "this is awesome" to "fuck that, I'm not participating in that clusterfuck." It would be nice if eBay could find a policy to remove that kind of stuff, but I have no idea how they would implement that in the form of a rule that we wouldn't all regret later. "Oh, it says here no self-published documents composed largely of work from other people...so I guess your copy of a '90s fanzine is clearly banned, sorry"
