Yes, it does. Logic dictates that a player who is equally good at both games would be able to play MD3 at a faster speed than MIE, due to the fact that MIE is more complex.Skub wrote:just because you need to plan your moves "far more in advance" than in magical drop doesn't mean you have to play more slowlyl

There is no possible metric by which you can measure and compare a player's abilities in two different games that have very different mechanics, so any point claiming that "logic dictates [anything] that [concerns] a player who is equally good at both games" is completely invalid.Cuilan wrote:Yes, it does. Moreover, just because someone doesn't play MIE as quickly as they play MD3 doesn't mean that MIE itself is a slower game.

Looks like I was somewhat mistaken with Magical Drop F's The World. While her outfit is full body and resembles a Snuggie, it is also see through, which was impossible to tell in the cpu/p2 palette since it's flesh colored rather than green like the default p1 palette.

That is some bullshit right there. I never noticed that he fucking teleported. Ahh well, when I play vs CPU I usually play slower to avoid the fight with him anyway.Davey wrote: This is the best Black Pierrot fight I've seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIoRKIEuRsQ

Re: Magical Drop Miscellanies
If nothing else, I'd suggest that since MIE's mechanics are a bit more complicated than MD's (in the later all pieces are matched the same way and vanish completely, while in the former different denominations are cleared differently and usually leave something behind for you to deal with) MIE is more difficult to play at super speed than MD; that's not to say it can't be done (theoretically most any video game can be played as fast as you can push the buttons), but I'd consider it a steeper hill to climb.Skub wrote:Moreover, just because someone doesn't play MIE as quickly as they play MD3 doesn't mean that MIE itself is a slower game.
Re: Magical Drop Miscellanies
I noticed in videos that Black Pierrot on level-8 in Magical Drop 2 looks much easier than Black Pierrot on defaults in Magical Drop 3. I also noticed that the original Magical Drop has a very different art style from the sequels with more of a cute storybook like style. The odd thing is that the international arcade version was renamed to Chain Reaction and uses different stuff like desserts and Halloween shapes instead of colored balls. I like how the SFC versions of Magical Drop 1 and 2 have you controlling the actual character instead of the jester.
Re: Magical Drop Miscellanies
It might be for naught, though. I think Fortune might teleport if you make it to her without continuing. I just confirmed that Tower doesn't, but I lost anyway.Acid King wrote:Ahh well, when I play vs CPU I usually play slower to avoid the fight with him anyway.

Also, I just noticed that if you set it to Japanese, even Empress teleports. No wonder I have such a hard time!

Ok, I'll try to simplify my point a bit further: is it not generally faster to reach a destination when there are fewer obstacles in the way?Skub wrote:There is no possible metric by which you can measure and compare a player's abilities in two different games that have very different mechanics, so any point claiming that "logic dictates [anything] that [concerns] a player who is equally good at both games" is completely invalid.

Re: Magical Drop Miscellanies
I play both and enjoy both but not too good at MIE (on PSN of course), but I don't give a shit, I love both of them. MD3 is my favorite of the series, but the one on Data East Arcade Classics pissed me off enough to buy a Saturn copy, mostly due to so much cut content from the western release.

Re: Magical Drop Miscellanies
This would be a valid point if MIE was objectively more difficult, but I'm sure you're aware that MIE has an entirely additional dimension of clearing: horizontally. MD3 does not objectively have "fewer obstacles", the obstacles are simply different, which is whyCuilan wrote:Ok, I'll try to simplify my point a bit further: is it not generally faster to reach a destination when there are fewer obstacles in the way?Skub wrote:There is no possible metric by which you can measure and compare a player's abilities in two different games that have very different mechanics, so any point claiming that "logic dictates [anything] that [concerns] a player who is equally good at both games" is completely invalid.
