Raiden legacy OUYA
I started the PC thread about it, so why not start the Ouya one...
Stuttering hell.
Ouyans seems to like it, though.

Oh god, I'm so depressed. It's unplayable, yet everyone is all over it. I actually downloaded it and gave it a try, but no...I feel even worse after that. Discusting.

Oh no, they really ported this piece of shit to the Ouya? Ouy noo!

I'd have more than a whack for the useless programmers responsible for this if I ever met them in person. The most I've gotten enquiring from them has been basically "we can't do anything about the problems, you're screwed".

Re: Raiden legacy OUYA
Of course they can't fix it, if it's the same as the PC version it uses MAME cores, and the MAME cores have certain baseline performance requirements something like the Ouya probably doesn't meet.
I don't know if what they've surrounded the cores with is crap, but if they *can't* fix the problem I'm not really surprised, because half of their product isn't their code to start with and they probably don't actually have the first clue about emulation.
If the Ouya one is based on Non-MAME cores from somewhere else (there are various optimized ARM ones about) they're still unlikely to be in a position where they can really improve them.

Hi there,
I'm Jessica, in charge of communication at DotEmu. Thanks for your feedbacks.
Regarding the OUYA port we are aware of performance issues happening only on 1080P screens. There is a complicated issue with the combination of Tegra 3, OUYA 1080p output and the way we are handling the rendering (we are in discussion to solve this with the OUYA team). Except that, a lot of players are enjoying it both on OUYA and on other platforms (4.5/5+ on itunes https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/raiden- ... 80156?mt=8).
Please keep in mind that it is a mobile project and it can't be compared in term on investment to an XBOX 360 retail project. We are really trying to get the best product with all the resources we can afford to make it happen. It would help if you can sum-up what your community does not like in Raiden Legacy and we will evaluate what can be done.
Thanks.

To be fair, we are spoiled by stuff like Cave-quality ports (except for maybe that 360 DOJ one). And aren't the Raiden Fighters games in 54 hz which doesn't display so well at 60 Hz?

I'm pretty sure Showichi Yano would not approve, that's all that counts.kog3100_edw wrote:Ha. Complainers got pwned!

While I appreciate you trying to quell the dissatisfaction amongst those who aren't happy with the product (particularly speaking for myself) I frankly feel like we've been on this road before: I made reports regarding the horrible emulation and performance on the iOS port, and on the PC port, with little to no fruitful result. I'm sure you'll understand that being as disgruntled as I am on the matter I'm not feeling very inclined to put this delicately, so here's a blunt summary: Your product's issues are not limited to *just* the Ouya.
This isn't a "specific" thing, otherwise I assure you being a bug reporter in games myself I'd be a lot more refrained. Its "performance" is bad across several devices including PCs and models of iPhones listed as compatible. I quote "performance" since the emulator your developers stole code from happens to run the game with no jittering issues at all. I also quote it because the last time I complained directly to you, my case was referred to a developer who used the exact same excuse you did now regarding the iOS port, and I'm pretty sure I got ignored entirely for the PC port. Hell I even got Stage 1 to appear TWICE in a single sitting (Stage 1, complete stage 1, go to stage 1 again), how the product managed to mess THAT up is a mystery to me. Then there's your funny control system and definition of "autofire".
Bottom line: It seems like this base product is just utterly flawed no matter what device it's on. You're not ironing out the bugs before or after launch, but replicating them across all your distribution platforms. I'm repeating myself yet again, and I imagine if others knew any different about this game, whether they'd emulated it in MAME or played the games in their original format, you wouldn't be getting those pretty ratings on iTunes at all.
Buggy products aren't cool. You know what would be? Bringing Raiden Fighters Aces to Europe and Australia. Imagine that, DotEmu's first 360 game publish. You wouldn't even need to modify the code since MOSS/Gulti/Seibu managed to actually get it right after about one patch. That I'll buy. I'll buy two, and make other people buy.

Bullshit. Used MAME ever? It handles 54hz on a 60hz screen *just fine*.BareknuckleRoo wrote:To be fair, we are spoiled by stuff like Cave-quality ports (except for maybe that 360 DOJ one). And aren't the Raiden Fighters games in 54 hz which doesn't display so well at 60 Hz?
Played Raiden Project? That still handles the original game better than this thing does, and I think you'll find that port wasn't "Cave-quality" either nor was such a thing as easy to pull off at the time.
There is nothing wrong with expecting what a product advertises - call it "authentically recreated" when it can actually render correctly without basic bugs like framerate issues.

First of all, thanks for dropping by. I would like to point out that I am a very casual player of shmups; therefore, I don't have a point of reference for the original Raiden games. To me the game is fun and well-done (for a smartphone game) but I have some minor complaints:
- The movement speed of the touchscreen controls feels a bit off. I know there are some adjustment options but there is still some lag when controlling the aircraft when I swipe my finger. I think adjustments to make is as close as a 1:1 movement ratio would be ideal, similar to the Cave iOS ports.
- I did not like that new missions couldn't be unlocked on mission mode. The only way to have access to all missions is by beating arcade mode. In the R-Type port this wasn't the case. This is the main reason on why I haven't beaten the game: I don't have the skill necessary to reach the final level and still have lives left. It would be nice is this option was included.
- Finally, in the past you have been great supporters of the Sony Xperia Play keyboard. Adding support to it for this game would make the experience ten times more enjoyable for us, owners of this phone. Having a mode to rotate the screen and play this as a horizontal shmup (with left to right progression as opposed to right to left as it is now) would be the icing on the cake.

Re: Raiden legacy OUYA
Raiden's sound seemed fairly 'off' to me, that was the first thing I noticed. My main complaint, though, is not being able to adjust the screen size, as vertically-oriented arcade games look flat-out ridiculous totally stretched to fill a widescreen display.
I'm thankful we're getting this; but yeah, it could definitely be improved. Spotty sound and emulation aside, I'd kinda like them to bring their Irem collection to Ouya as well.
