How do you react...
How do you react...
Have you ever posted a message on a forum such as this... like maybe one that your new at... and gotten nothing in return but half-assed assumptions that you are an imbecile? On a couple of occasions i've posted a thread about something - asking a question or providing a link to a site i found or something of sorts - and would check the post the next day only to find a barrage of insults from people who don't share the same opinion as me or just don't like the particular game or movie or music that i was posting about.
They usually read something like this...
"Hey - check out these screenshots for (Game X) that i just found on (Website X)! This game looks pretty killer. I'm really excited because of (Reason X) and (Elaboration X)... (link X)"
Reply -
"You're a fucking moron for liking (Product X). You should be burned in the street for holding a gun to my head and making me read this post! You stupid idiot! (Derogatory Expletives x 5)!!! Die for you're atrocious deeds, witch!"
This is usually followed by a bunch of other posts from other members of the forum who continue to dub the person that they don't know 'Retard', 'Loser', and other such uneducated guesses as to the content of the thread author's charachter so that they can maintain their reputation as elite in the forum of keyboard badasses.
I've never really encountered this problem at Shmups or on Vampire Freaks... that's why i like these two sites the most. But elsewhere i have gotten that kind of reaction.
I'm not really one for wasting my time arguing these people down because i'm fairly certain the replies i would get would just consist of further judgements from people who i guess assume that i'm some baby-killing nazi who runs over kittens with lawnmowers...
So i usually just don't reply or try to make my point once more without insulting anyone back or using ignorant swear words.

Some on this board have that power
Tell him, circuitface wrote:"Fuck circuitface and silent bob, fuck them in their stupid asses"
"Yeah right after they have fucked your entire family in bondages"
The key is to portrait a picture and to come off even harder. That or the clever bit. Or try to combine both clever with extreme. I cannot do that........yet.

Re: How do you react...
Best thing is not to react, leave the site and feel infinitely superior to the ones swearing, judging at you trying to bring you down. If people react in those ways, you probably do not even want to be part of that community/forum anyway.circuitface wrote: So i usually just don't reply or try to make my point once more without insulting anyone back or using ignorant swear words.

The above is the best reaction, but considering we're all people and need to get rid of our anger the other solution could be something like this: Cursing swearing back at the ignorent people who insulted you before you leave their forever may help vent the anger at their ignorance. Leave and never look/come back.
Also return to more intelligent/polite forums so you again see the difference.

Re: How do you react...
Well you had stated your opinion, and they sated theirs. Since you and the other party don't seems to have any chance of convincing the other, any more posts would just be wasting your time and getting yourself invloved in an unconstructive flame war.circuitface wrote:How do you react to threads like that?
So you should just let it be the end of the communication.

May be you could start to talk about somthing else (if you still want to stay at that forum).
BTW, I have seem forum that got very little posts, and no one is responding to your posts. For the people does post, they are busy at writing their own BLOG...

*Meow* I am as serious as a cat could possible be. *Meow*
I answer the thread in a courteous manner because that person would not ask such questions if they knew the answers already. Why treat them in such a horrible way just because they don't understand something or are excited about something and just want to share the good news with everyone else? It's an old saying, but treat others as you wish to be treated. What purpose does it serve to be a dick? Is it that entertaining to put someone down that you can't see? Plain and simple... just don't be a dick.

Re: How do you react...
This is the only site that I've ever been part of, so I cannot compare it to other places. But I imagine that with most sites there will be a transition period before you fit in. In my own case I did receive some pretty negative responses when I first got here-- and I think I probably deserved it. It took time before I became part of things, and either I stopped saying annoying things or people just stopped caring.circuitface wrote:

This is just the way it is with near any social group. You can't expect to fit in right off the bat. It takes time to develop a rapport with people and find your niche.

U R STUPID FOR POSTING A HOW DO YOU REACT TO IT WHEN PPL DO THIS THING. GET A LIFE ASS.
Just kidding
. I hate when people do that too. Have you seen that picture of the kid that says "Arguing on the internet is like being in the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded."? Sometimes arguing can be constructive, so its more applicable to flamewar type stuff, but yeah, funny quote.

Just kidding

Just ignore it. Net's full of dipshits. LOLROFLMAOIRLASLcircuitface wrote:How do you react to threads like that?

Sometimes they say search the forums for a previous thread that covered the topic I was inquiring about. Sometimes you can't find the damn thread among the hundreds, sometimes thousands. Cut a guy a break, will ya?iatneH wrote:I'll usually get something like "Read the sticky/FAQ/rules"
Which I really don't mind if it's said nicely. But if the guy is being a total asshole about it then it pisses me off even though admittedly I was in the wrong to begin with.
