The new version of the demo is now live on IndieDB! It now has tate mode support and should work better on systems with vista or older gfx card.

It'd be awesome to actually get the game greenlit, but in the mean time I'm working on getting it released via a number of other online store-fronts. So far it's pretty encouraging to read the comments on the greenlight page though, people are looking for more shmups on Steam!

Even though I'm on Vista with an nVIDIA Geforce 7200GS, the 1.1 Demo is running significantly worse than the 1.0 demo. Before it seemed to run at mostly full speed, but now it's slow enough that the logos before the title screen take at least 5 seconds.

And I did diasble the mirrored background on both versions of the demo.

@Meseki I'm going to be putting back in the original set of shaders and have switches that determine which set to use based on system compatibility. That should bring the performance back to the level of the old build for your system. :)

@kane yup you'll be able to buy from the DU2 site direct DRM-free!

It contains the soundtracks to both DU2 and Storm Strikers (another shooter I did last year for iOS). Both composed by the ever talented BLANKFIELD. If you so happen to be at Comiket 84 you'll be able to buy the CD! If not it'll be available on iTunes as well.

@BPzeBanshee I've uploaded a new version of the demo with a debug mode that keeps the console open, hopefully that will help!

Just pulled down the demo for this and wanted to say that's it's awesome! The music is also really great. Looking forward to the full release of this :)

windows 8 , after it lists the shaders it says linking program and then a box comes up with stopped working. :(

edit - switched to the amd radeon in my laptop and now working, the problem was with the intel 4000hd graphics chipset. on another note runs choppy as hell on my i5 2.5ghz amd radeon hd 7600m. should it really be that bad as my setup usually runs stuff silky smooth!

IIRC that "problem" goes away instantly if you're registered and logged in. Still annoying.

After burning some midnight oil, I think I got the intel HD issue fixed :) I have just uploaded a new version of the demo (1.1.3) on indieDB, it should be live in a couple of hours.

Please make sure your graphics driver is up to date if you are running intel HD cards. I've tested this version successfully on a Surface Pro (Intel HD4000) after updating to the latest driver from intel. Let me know if it still causes problems!

Well, my shit laptop has an Intel HD 3000 >__>;;; Hopefully it'll work!

Btw, I just gave the demo to a friend and she was all "Hey, this demo needs to be longer, I was doing so good!". Anyway, it passed the Shmup Introductory Test with 100/100 mark, heh. (The demo length is fine, she was kidding. But, hey, that means more pre-orders. In fact, I need to pre-order this first thing tomorrow morning!)

edit: YAY! It works flawlessly on my laptop now!

Works beautifully for me now. I'm really liking the menu background for this game, wish I could pull off the same kind of visuals in mine. :D

Music is AMAZING and fits nicely with what's happening too! Good stuff indeed, and while you say you're a bit of a n00b with PC programming it doesn't really show here - looks very professional and in a style I wish more programmers with full control over how they're coding their game would follow.

A few pointers:
- when I died and got to the continue screen, it just continued straight away before I got the chance to take my finger off the trigger. Could you add a minor delay for that option to hit it so this doesn't happen?
- similar thing, but could we get some kind of "are you sure you want to quit?" option when pressing ESC? I know quite a few games that close on exit (including mine which I keep forgetting to fix) but I feel this game particularly needs it for in-game, and possibly the Main Menu.
- can we get a FPS display in the main window for Debug Mode? The game appeared to be running just fine on my i3 machine.

I think this is definitely going on my purchase list. You seem to know very much what you're doing here.

runs fine now under intel 4000hd and .... smooth as butter, nice game, will be a purchase for me.

The game should just pick up the controller automatically if it is plugged in. The default button setup is mapped to the PS3 controller so you will probably have to reconfigure it in the option menu if you're using something else.

Hmmm...I've tried multiple controllers and sticks (both 360 and PS3 ones) and it doesn't seem to recognize any of them :/

I am on Windows 8, maybe that has something to do with it?

I'm on Windows 8 myself, and my Cheap-O(tm) USB pad seemed to work when I tried the (rather nice, I might as well add) demo...not sure what the differentiating factor might be.

Does the unofficial 360/PS3 drivers support Windows 8 (or vice versa)?

Speaking of joystick support, is there a deadzone option? I don't recall seeing one, but my memory sucks and I'm currently on a Mac.

So, at what time (and timezone) is this release?
Should I stay up tomorrow for a midnight release, is it possible or are you going for daytime stuff?
EDIT: I'm not sure what trance rdy snd means, but if it should enable some kind of sound effect when trance gauge is full, it isn't working. (Or the sound is veeryy quiet..?)

the game should go live at August 9th at 10am PST via the game's website :)

Turns out the file for the ready sound is in a wrong format for the demo package. Happily after double checking the full version has the right copy :) Will probably fix that for the demo post release.
