Create your own vocabulary!

Post by jasoncslaughter »

If Abraham Lincoln could make up new words, so can you! You can use any combination of known words, commonly misspelled words, colloquialisms, etc. Please include a sentence or two to illustrate the word in context.

For example:

shump (n.): an individual showing little to no skill in the STG genre; may also suffer from delusions of grandeur and severe logorrhea.

- "After all that talk, can you believe Dave can't make it through the first stage of Bullet Soul?"
- "I know, what a shump."

Ingerlund's Shakespear was the bestest
'reem" at making up words. "Frightning' it was.

FuckCave!: use it every time Cave goes bankrupt or release an iOS game.

- "Cave is going bankrupt but it's developing an iOS game"
- "FuckCave!"

IBARA2DEEP4U: use it every time someone complains about the lack of slowdowns on the port/emulation of Ibara.

- "Ibara is super hard without the slowdowns"
- "IBARA2DEEP4U"

Cumbrian is already it's own language - a horrific crazy bastard child of celtic and norse origin. As a result it's an impenetrable wall of in sayings and weirdness though it's rapidly dying out with time :

"Thuz theere - thuz bin telt yance" - is the usual warning to unruly children.
"asa marra az garn yam" - the usual end of night signal that you're off home
"az oota aakers' - I've no money
"wuz garn radge hoyin clemmies" - was angry and throwing stones
"jousey like, hedta gaa diksey'n yat lowpin' t'sheck t'horneys" - i was lucky, i had to jump through the bushes and backyard gates to get away from the police
"sekka cracks s'thuu deeken?" - what are you talking about?

and on and on....

I had to tone it down when i moved out of the area - first week at University i realized that i had to think about what the actual English was for certain phrases i'd use if i wanted to be understood by anyone who wasn't one of the other two Cumbrians on my course.

Now it only kicks in when i go back home and the young kids don't speak like that at all - it's a dead language which is for the better ultimately but a little sad that the area loses some if it's local identity.
Interestingly when i go home now the first thing i get is

"fray't way thu yatters, iz thuu frey merika?" - from the way you talk, are you from America?

which i get to respond to with : "naa, az fray't oh-nine side'a mirras" -which is always good to start up a bit of talk.

Shoot-haiti or Shoothaiti (silent h, pronounced as Shoot-a-e-t no long break or so).
=
when someone has changed hobby from shmup to something else and therefore rarely visits the forums anymore.
that is,moved from shooters to haiti=somewhere else (symbolized by an exotic island = something more fancy than a dark, basement STG playing)

Ex:
-I'll ask Twiddle if he wanna join STGT this year.
-Sorry, dude. I think he went to Shoothaiti.

Ex2:
-Why are so many members moving to Shoothaiti anyway?
-I don't know man, I think they're sellouts...

shump is great btw!

In terms of made up vocab/phrases - a few of us have started using "Fez 2 is cancelled" as an unnecessary reaction to something we don't agree with.

A: "We're out of whiskey!'
B: "Right.... Fez 2 is cancelled"
"I've asked 2 experts on taking RGB screenshots...."

One more from me.

Preeshootulate or Pre-eshootulate (cf. premature ejaculation or preejaculate).
When you kill off an enemy a little bit earlier than intended, that is, before you have maxed the scoring potential.

Ex:
-My timing is shit when I play Espgaluda, I preeshootulate all the time.
-whaddayamean?
-I kill before it fills the screen with bullets.

Combo:
-I broke the stage-long chain in Dodonpachi cause I preeshootulated the midboss - My max chain was embarrasing.

-Ship happens...

-I dont know, man, the games ain't fair, you know...sometimes I think about moving to shoothaiti...maybe study law or something. I'm tired of this.

-Come on, dude, don't be a shump.

- I mean it! I really hate games that chain - it's bad gameplay.

-Sure...fez 2 is cancelled.

- You know what?! I'm pointblanking you! It's time that you hear this from me...Get A Job! A JOB! you hear me?! DO something with your life, all you do the whole loop is milking time, y'know.

-huh?

-I mean you're a smart person, you know that, but you should...

-Whatever

-D-don't counterstop me! I'm fucking serious here!

-Ok, tell me then, my true last boss, what im supposed to do? It's difficult to get in the loop these days - few people select your battleship when you're new.

-It's not all about job, co-pilot. You could co-op with someone, creditfeed a girl you know.

- Oh no-no-no! they stab in the your blackheart
exaplantions:
ship happens - saying it was a bad run, but that it is no big deal
pointblank - confront someone, say an ugly truth that is gonna hurt.
milking time - just taking minor steps in a long time - making no radical changes.
true last boss - someone that is difficult to reach or really pisses you off.
get in the loop - getting into the job market, either through getting a job or getting contacts or just spreading the word that one is availble on the market
select your battleship - hire someone to work for you
stab in the your blackheart - trick you into a corner, like a trap, and hurt you -sort of like the attack from blackheart in garegga.
co-op - get together, become partners
creditfeed a girl - several meanings...

That brings back memories dcharlie-"Ma nam's J*vi*."

Is 'Cumbrian' a dialect or an official language like Cornish?

Some things my Scottish ex used to come out with were hilarious-"I need me scratcher", "I'm away to get the messages", "Those clothes are too granny muchy" "That wayne (sic?) started greeting after he clapped the dog." etc.

Kids used to call the nearest amusement arcade-"The muz", "Going up the muz tonight?" We didn't say that in Fleet, only got exposed to all this new fangled vehicular at 6th Form.

it's just a dialect rather than a language like Cornish - but as it's strewn with Norse words it's a bit thicker than others (in more ways than one!)

Similarly Cumbria has switched in and out of English/Scottish control so we've a fair grounding in Scottish slang as well as that has leaked in to the vocabulary as well. Well, I mean we know what Wallies are and other lesser known Scottish words mean, plus we can interchange with Geordies/Maccams with little trouble.

Again - this rarely has any real life application outside of Cumbria :/
