Should this ever bother me?

Post by c0dehunter »

OK, I was cleaning my beloved Sony PVM-20L5 the other day, and I noticed that there is a tiny scratch/chip (round shape, very small, maybe 2mm in size) on the surface glass of the monitor. It is barely noticeable on a light background (which I seldom use, most games have dark backgrounds) and absolutely invisible on dark backgrounds or while I am playing game. Nevertheless, it is there, and is somehow upsetting me.

How can I ignore and forget about it?

Many thanks for your kind philosophical comments and consolations in advance! :)

STOP WHINING / johnkimble

Be thankful it's not an unsolvable geometry issue or the set dying. I don't even have a PVM, so there's that too. There, problem solved!

For some people it gets worse. They get obsessive about even smaller imperfections. Just be happy you aren't obsessing about minor QA issues on half the stuff you own.

I have a 1080p plasma television with one stuck pixel. That's one out of like, DOZENS of pixels. I have to remind myself to not be completely insane and let it bother me.

Reminds me of when I upgraded to a 15" CRT back in '92, I became obsessed with the geometry being perfect. Returned two monitors before I found one that had a truly square picture (once the pincushion was tweaked). And that one still bugged me a little! Finally had to just come to my senses and live with the slight undetectable to anyone but me distortion.

you should try living with circular lens power(for corrective lenses). Things turn form perfect rectangular to trapezoid as soon as you take your glasses off.

PS: i have astigmatism and circular power, but i haven't worn glasses ever because it didn't bother me so much. So, now its either deal with a geometrically distorted world or a blurry world.
