SHMUPS FORUM SERVER DONATION DRIVE *please read*

Hi all,

It's about time to move the forum back to the old hardware host. However, the server is getting slightly old now and with the logging tools I'd like to start running memory is tight. I think upgrading the hardware before moving the forum back to it might be a fairly decent move - it's also an opportunity to refresh the OS which I've never been entirely happy with since putting Ubuntu Server on.

It would be cheap enough to buy a server of a similar age with a little more RAM to cannibalise, but it would still be 8 years old and running on U320 disks. I have various options for getting a newer model with more memory, more cores and faster disks - they're not massively expensive, it's looking to be around the $500-$600 mark, it seems like the wise decision.

So, I'm asking if anyone would like to contribute - if you would, please see the little Donate button up in the top right. To date, I have personally spent in the region of $7500 running the site since 2007 and total donations since then have been less than $400, so a little assistance would be appreciated.

This is greatly appreciated, small note - if people are donating from the UK or EU it would be better to do it in pounds or euros, since Paypal won't get to skim as much off in exchange rates when I come to buy the server

No, I had no idea! I wonder if that can be changed.

Edit: it can, but it can only be set to one thing. I suppose it's best to leave it as dollars then and incur one paypal skim instead of them taking a chunk out of each one.

Heh, I actually donated 20$ a week or two before this thread popped up. I spent 10 minutes like a moron looking for a thread with a paypal link before I saw the obvious donate button, d'oh.

But yeah, if everyone game like 5-10 bucks that'd be a big chunk of change. Best general gaming forum I've found as shmup fans tend to also be the type to like in-detailed game mechanic discussion for all genres.
