Re: iPhone / iPad Shmups
Since I've been away from the xbox (my account got hacked and I decided to leave it be for a bit), most of my shmupping has been in the form of the iphone. A couple of games that i'm playing (and enjoying):
Jet Fighter Ace-
It's entertaining since its sort of a vs. style shmup but be wary though, it follows the "free to play" model thats rampant in facebook games like farmville and mafia wars. You're limited to a certain number of battles a day (it requires fuel to play, and you get a certain amount of fuel an hour) as well as there being a currency system (you can purchase in game "crystals" with real money, but its not at all needed). Its technically a free game as long as you dont buy into the purchasing of in game currency
Danmaku unlimited-
the full version came out a couple of days ago, and it is really awesome. It has a bullet grazing system as well as a "hyper mode" ability. Sort of a hodge podge of other shmups but i really like it. it costs $2 and i think its worth it. Only problem is the music sucks (the demo is available)
Fast Striker-
I got it on a whim, but the ability to change the screen type to 1/2 is the actual game screen and the other 1/2 is blank, playing the game feels very unobstructed. costs $3 but NO demo is available.

Yeah, this one's surprisingly good. Probably the best non-Cave vert on iOS.Avatar Ignis wrote:Danmaku unlimited-

Liked the doujin shmup references: the main menu is quite Cloudphobia-ish and the boss fights remind me of eXceed 3rd. Also the hyper mode is called Danmaku Trance...
However, the stages are a bit too long and tedious.
And btw the boss theme is awesome

I can't agree more with this. I usually play it silenced so I don't hear the music, but it's nothing to write home about. that, and the crashes when going into the later levels are about the only bad things in it. and I love the upgrade shop idea, looks like what deathsmiles is going to have...whenever they release it.Treasurance wrote:Yeah, this one's surprisingly good. Re: iPhone / iPad Shmups
New memebr alert! Just got back into shmups at just the right time
Has anyone tried the Shmup iOS app? There is also a Lite version which is just the first act but it is well owrth the £0.69p
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/shmup/id337663605?mt=8
I think it owes a lot to Ikaruga (which I only briefly played on the gamecube many years ago).
There are some atrocities out there but some other Apps definately woth checking out:
Danmaku Unlimited (£1.49)
Phoenix HD (Free!!!)
Space Deadbeef (free)
rRootage online (free)
But by far my favourite is Do-Don-Pachi Resurrection (7.99 but worth every penny)
But all the Cave ones are good, unsuprisingly

Hi hi!
I'm wondering if anyone here plays Deathsmiles on the iPhone/iPad? I think it's really great and I'm hooked on it, and imho tons more fun than DDPR and ESpgaluda2...(bought them during their release at half price! Wooo!)
But i searched and can't find any thread here talking about Deathsmiles iPhone mode...

It does not.
I guess it's about the right time to poke @cave_world_en about that yet again...

Re: iPhone / iPad Shmups
Not sure if this was mentioned already, but ISUD was a good boss rush shmup until the latest update broke the game with ads that obscure gameplay. I hope it gets fixed soon. Currently, there is no way to remove the ads. I noticed someone mentioned PicoPico Fighters. I have it and like it quite a bit. I wish it had its own music, but I like how it lets you use your own music for the game.

Re: iPhone / iPad Shmups
I bought ISUD when it first came out and enjoyed it. The update that made it free (and clustered with adds) completely ruins the game. So important to know the bosses life in order to go in for that SUD burst or whatever its called. I doubt they will fix it as the creators website is down. I just deleted the game cause that ad banner angered me so much.BrianC wrote:Not sure if this was mentioned already, but ISUD was a good boss rush shmup until the latest update broke the game with ads that obscure gameplay. Re: iPhone / iPad Shmups
Hudson's Star Soldier just went up for free. Totally chiptastic tunes, and seems like it plays well. But, of course it does have the touch controlled teleportation speed control if all the other iOS ports.

What's going on with the "ENERGY" mechanic in this game? It doesn't look like something that would have been in the original, but at the same time the help files are translated badly to the point that I can't understand what it's for.xris wrote:Hudson's Star Soldier just went up for free.
Re: iPhone / iPad Shmups
I just got a new iPad (3rd Gen) and tried out DDP:Resurrection HD on it. For some reason, it's running slow. I mean R-Type Final slow. Stage 5 was basically in slow motion for most of it. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
I'm also interested in getting a stylus. Any recommendations?

Options -> Other (I think) -> Wait Control OFF
Metal Slug 3 was released today, and it seems like a great port! HURRAY!

If you're ok with not having slowdown similar to how the original arcade behaves, sure. You'll probably find this makes the game excessively difficult though.geremy wrote:Options -> Other (I think) -> Wait Control OFF

Danmaku Unlimited 2 on iOS

This is the case when only two words is enough to describe a thing. Danmaku Unlimited 2 by Sunny Tam. This game is worth a single topic! We waiting for it so long and it definitely a top quality shmup. Lite version is also available
Try it!
PS. BIOS, thanks for your topic and information, shmups never appears on a app store featured page...

Re: iPhone / iPad Shmups
Super Ox Wars is worth of love if folks haven't played that on iOS.
It's a polarity game, which kind of sucks.. but it's fun enough to just blast through on the phone.

Re: iPhone / iPad Shmups
As danmaku unlimited 1 is only 1 chf and du 2 is 5, which one shall I get? Is part 2 five times better?
Now seriously, do I miss out if I go directly to part 2?
Edit: after testing out the lite versions, I think I'll opt for the second part. I seem to get the better vibes.
This and part 2 is an universal app, so it's better to play on my pad.

I'm an old school shump guy, but this thread has introduced me the modern age of vertical shooters.
Touch control is great for dodging, switching weapons modes is a little bit harder but not bad.
Storm Strikers is the game I'm playing right now, easing my way into bullet hell.

Re: iPhone / iPad Shmups
Can someone tell me what's the weakest model and GB iPhone for installing and running all the Cave ports? Total GB they would all take up and which model. I'm guessing something like an iPhone 4 with 8 GB?
Also if they changed the resolution on the iPhone 5 then does it show the games at the wrong aspect ratio or does it give black borders?

Re: iPhone / iPad Shmups
All the cave ports (HD versions where applicable) run without issue on my 4S. I believe the iPhone 5 versions have increased non game area at the bottom, where you generally control the ship from. I'll be getting the next model when it comes out in a month or two or three and I look forward to this extra space. Speaking of that, this 4S is going to become rather "extra" at that point...
Re: iPhone / iPad Shmups
How about iOS horizontal shmups other than Deathsmiles and ports? For me, they are horrendously underrated among others(the purpose of this post is not to compare any shmup). My recommendations for horizontal iOS shumps are iNHeritage and Trisector (all released this year as paid; each of them has its own thread at this forum). Has someone tried those two games yet???
I express my apologies for posting a bunch of mobile shmup threads in this forum in recent months, because some members perceive them as "spam." I have to redeem myself.
Re: iPhone / iPad Shmups
I can't find an answer anywhere. I'll ask here:
Exactly how many characters are on the iOS version of Deathsmiles?

Re: iPhone / iPad Shmups
4 characters. Three from the original arcade ver plus one new for the iphone mode. You can't play iphone mode with original characters and can't play arcade mode with new character.Opa Opa wrote:Exactly how many characters are on the iOS version of Deathsmiles?
