A,722,250 - Icarus - Stage 6 - Bornnam (ABC) [GareggaMAME 0.90.03]

Did this last week, then took a week off. Been getting quite consistent at scoring 10mil+ now (when I actually make a decent run to st5 and not pull some retarded mistake early on), but really need to practice scoring through stage 6, as Bornnam can't kill anything for shit once rank goes up. This one ended typically before the busy section near the end of st6.
Run on Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/icarusfw/c/2359469

Played it a bit today, and got to stage7 with a score that was 200k lower than this one (by virtue of a low-scoring Mad Ball 2, and massive stupidity throughout stage 6), which ended just before Glow Squid pops out of King Crimson. Would have been a B.5 or higher at BH2 otherwise. :/

I have the PCB now, but my supergun is retarded, and I need to look for a cable that will work with my scaler as my supergun only works with a scart>scart cable (and not scart>svideo or composite…).

Felt much better about my play today, more relaxed, and it shows.

C,324,910 - Icarus - Stage 7 - Bornnam (ABC) [GareggaMAME v0.90.03]

Not a single medal drop throughout the run, though a lower scoring Mad Ball 2 (trapped in the corner), no milking on Junkey Monkey, and a bad attempt at stalling King Crimson kept this one quite low. Managed to bomb-milk Black Heart 2 throughout the second form, but nearly lost it completely on the third form.

A couple of runs later picked up a B.1mil but failed with a mid-stage6 medal drop and dying while milking Junkey Monkey's arms (and still had my highest scoring run to stage 6, with A.2mil after Black Heart), so consistency is finally coming, and I think I can make a really good stab at hitting D with more practice. I need to practice BH2's trap vulcan again as I have no confidence with it at the moment, and I think doing it perfectly will be key to conserving lives for Glow Squid.

Thanks Icarus, I couldn't find that info anywhere.

Also, grats on your C score man. Does it seem possible to try to go for that G spot?

Getting to G requires near-perfect play, which I don't think I can manage at this point in time. My scoring potential with perfect execution of my current strategies is around about D.5mil or thereabouts, and there's stil quite a lot to improve at the moment with the last two stages. It was a miracle I didn't drop a medal at all in this run, and I usually miss one somewhere in stage 6 on most runs.

Ah okay. So do you think you'll try to get that D score before trying to up your scoring potential, or are you going back to the drawing board right away?

I'll be working on getting to Glow Squid consistently first before I entertain the idea of upping score potential. Bornnam is very weak and has difficulty getting through stage 6, so getting a good, solid route through that is step one.

Barely a medal in it. :x :x :x :P

I'm playing Saidaioujou X360 Mode at the moment, will come back to Garegga once I get the 30bil score out of my system (achieved 29.1bil after two solid evenings of serious, non-fuckabout play, so It'll fall soon.)

I'm also between this and SDOJ at the moment. I'm regularly getting between 7-8 million stage 6 gameover, and once again I'm about to put my foot through the TV. I used to be able to get to BH2 with a few lives in stock.. feeling really close to giving up again.

Fucker literally cornered me with the strafing backblast (you know damn well who) and then reminded me the hard way that the backblast hitbox is wider in the middle (read: almost the whole thing).

8,386,220 - KevinDDR - Stage 7 - Gain (C)

Borrowed wnka's Garegga PCB a little while back and I've been putting some time into trying to learn Gain. Maybe I was just doing something massively wrong with Golden Bat (or something massively right with Gain) but I don't really feel like my rank is ending up much higher with Gain. Got to the turret wall with 3 lives so I just casually wasted one of them trying to finish the wall off. Proceeded to no-miss Junky Monkey, then blew the start of stage 7 for a game over. I didn't bother with the stage 4 scaffolding or the suicide extend bomb trick for the flamingoes, so I'm sure a letter score isn't too far off now. Finally, I'm starting to get the hang of this thing!

The thing about gain is that you can get enough points to die more and offset the faster rank increase almost entirely. What kind of scores are you getting by the end of stage 3?

Also, Gain rank increases a lot because of its options, so if you don't use too many of them in the beginning of the game, rank gets quite more manageable. Also: don't increase autofire speed before you *really* need it. My current route is:
- Stage 1: take 3 options for the boss milking.
- Stage 2: keep only 2 options after the flamingos.
- Stage 3: 2 options.
- Stage 4: 3 options just for the last part of the stage, then suicide back to 2 on the big tanks (for getting max bombs).
- Stage 5: 4 options from now on.
- Stage 6: increase autofire to ~15 (I do it manually, so it's not very precise).
- Stage 7: increase autofire to fastest possible just before Black Heart Mk II.

Basically, I try to stay at 2 options for the most part of stages 1~4. You can even go to 1 option only on some parts (stage 3 for example).
