Anyway, I go to a bar, see some acquaintances, spend a few hours taking to them, then one guy acquaintance flips out at me because he thinks I'm taking bad about some guy's fiance. I know he flipped out because there was a girl there that he was interested in, but she was showing more interest in me. Another guy stands up to me who actually knew who I was taking about. Awkward as fuck. What a jealous prick, but fuck it, I remove myself from the situation and go outside.

See two OK looking birds chatting it up. Interrupt, start talking, bum a cig. Finally invite them to come back to my place to watch "Stander" (2003), hoping for that to turn into some action. They decline, somehow.

Go home, resist urge to fap, watch movie by my lonesome.

Skykid, are you Asian, white, or another race? Reason I ask is because there are some cute girls in your pics, and me being white, I'm curious how they react to foreigners hitting up their nightlife.

I'm a whitey, born in London to an English father, Hungarian/American mother.

Where I am (Nanning) I literally might not see another foreign person for a week at a time. That makes me a completely unqualified celebrity. If you don't like being stared at (by everyone, male and female) you'd probably go nuts. However, anyone who can get close to you and open a line of conversation, will do their damndest to invite you drinking with them - hence my prolificacy in this thread.

So it's not really about hitting up their nightlife, everything works on invitation in China. Friends invite other friends, pay for the whole evening, and then the next friend will return the favour at some point. I just end up being invited by varying groups of friends to clubs, KTV and beer BBQ evenings all the time.

All the girls want to jump your bones, but one night stands are very unusual actually. There's a kind of unspoken ritual of see the girl once, twice, and the third time you can get a groove on. I don't know why this is.

Resistance is almost completely futile, but I'm hanging on (by a thread.)

The clubs here are hands down the greatest I've ever been to. Hands down. They're absolutely enormous, with incredible sound systems, no expense spared, and tend to have insane OTT decor. Sometimes there are multiple floors, and there's always a stage with live entertainment. One of the coolest nights was Shanghai night at Muse (one of the clubs on the Lake), where all the girls had to wear traditional Chinese dresses to get in. The live set was amazing, a kind of contemporary Shanghainese dolls n' gangster act (reminded me of Temple of Doom's opening) and the lead singer was a real beauty.

I took some video of it actually, but here's a very poor quality pic (I had to zoom). If it looks like something out of Blade Runner, well that's kind of how it was:

Damn, thanks for all the info. Do not know what to say, except I am jealous. I visited Shanghai (where I guess are more foreigners) when I was younger with my family, and I would definitely like to go to China again, without the parental guidance. Then again, might be too much for someone who has not lived there.

I've been to Shanghai. You won't get stared at there, it's full of foreigners. I don't think Shanghainese people are exactly interested in seeing any more!

Nanning is the capital city of Guanxi province. Everyone I meet tells me "it's only a small city," which amuses me (because it's absolutely enormous with a population almost the same size as England) but I understand what they mean. It's chilled here. There's a lot of ethnic diversity and a lot of super rich and super poor. Life is slower and more laid-back than places like Beijing etc, and outside of language schools, there really aren't many foreigners around.

But I love it. I didn't come here to see white people, I've seen enough of those. I'm quite happy to not talk to anyone for days and just do my own thing.
