Although, I think I'll pass on this buy. I love this game so fucking much, but I don't really want to spend a lot on it considering how much I went through to find it for DS and 360 IN JAPAN and couldn't find it, I think I gave up on it. Just need to JTAG my 360 so I can play it since I have it for 360 (backed up, sadly.)

But doods think of all that exposure for shmups! If not for gaijin piracy everything after 2000 on the chronology wouldn't have been made cos nobody in Japan would know WTF a shooter is, and forget about console ports / originals!

mine just came in, looking forward to playing a ton this weekend! Blu-Ray set is 3 disks, which is pretty neat. the soundtrack looks to be for DFKBL. (I pre-ordered this way back when and never bothered to see what was included. nice surprise)

yeah, my bad. the Blu-Ray set has 1 superplay Blu-Ray, and 2 OSTs: original stereo version and X-Mode arrange version. the DFKBL soundtrack is in a separate package...maybe it was a pre-order bonus?

Correct but the pre-order OST is for the Arrange Mode of DDP DFK BL, an absolute jewel!

for those 2 people that care -

here are some unedited (because i'm too busy) shots of the box etc - well, i say "here" but they're on flickr - i'll post them later, but they're still uploading

Hires versions free for you to look at over at http://www.flickr.com/photos/dcharlie

failing that : http://www.igirisujin.com/Ket1.JPG - Ket1 through Ket22 - for 5 meg sized files. Will tidy this up later when i'm not busy or, if someone else wants to repost the smaller flickr ones, please feel free to go for it.

NOTE: i see no regioning info on the Bluray disk or on the cover - i will reinspect and see if i can switch my laptop BR player to another region and see if it barfs. But maybe region free?

Does this version have any fake scanline options a-la Raiden Fighters Aces? Is it possible to get it looking decent on a flatsceen?
-
Atm I don't have access to a decent CRT and I'm pretty unsatisfied with how the Xbox version looks. I guess if there was a reason to get another CRT, Ketsui would be it

Will give it a whirl in about 30 mins and see - from the look of the options in the book, it looks to be pretty much identical to the X360 version so ... no scanlines?

I'll have look, check the scoreboards etc once i get free'd up.

First things - i've just set my laptop Bluray region to B (Europe) and tried to play the superplay bluray and it -works-.

I'm ripping the superplay for my own personal use - but after that i'll run it through AnyDVD or something similar to see what region it comes back with so it can be double confirmed.

edit : Good lord - the leaderboards are pretty sparsely populated empty with no one i particularly recognise. Did this thing utterly crater? 146m top score in arcade mode.

Very reassuring! Did you get the region info form anydvd yet?

The game came out a couple days ago, so give it some time. ;)

Thanks for the video! It's not quite clear to me what the "extra" section on the blu ray contains. Did you have time to watch those yet so that you could tell us what they are?

The real question is, how much lag is there compared to the 360 game?

I had a complete nightmare with this - i installed AnyDVD and it completely removed my drive from my W8 installation so rather than getting to check info or play stuff, i spent the rest of the night fixing my W8 installation :/

Will find another way to get the info

Has anyone else received their copies yet from VGI et al?
How does it compare to the 360 version? Better or not?
doesn't appear to be any differences - Japanese boards talking about some minor bug fixes but that's about it.

Thanks for testing it out, dcharlie! Finally someone with common sense and a will to help out. Hope you can come up with a way to fix your BD drive issue and find another method to find if the superplay has indeed no region protection as many Europeans might not be able to play it on their PS3s if it's A/1. What software did you use to play the blu-ray after changing your BD's region to B/2? Some of these programs can pretty much play anything you throw at them, no matter the region/codec.

My copy of this arrived today, but i am a Ketsui n00b. Can anyone point me to a guide that's perhaps a bit more fleshed out than the top hit for the game in the strategy section? Something that explains the arcade vs. "X" Mode, covers some of the menu options, etc. would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

PowerDVD - it comes up to say "you are about to play a Bluray for the first time - please set your region" Disk region shows up as NONE. So i set it to Region B.

I tried to play Region A disk and it gives me the "this region does not match your current region" - then tried Ketsui to which it played with no issue.

As i say, going to find some software that isn't AnyDVD that will show me the region details and will report back - i'm sure PowerDVD has it right, but double checking is the key.

Doesn't region NONE mean it's region free?

Yes - pretty sure it is and the lack of any region mark also looks like a good sign.

But want to use a proper disk inspector to get confirmation - just got back from a day out, will try and find for sure later
