Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga are part of a Trilogy
Probably get mugged for saying it, but I'd still love to see the game engines of RSG or Ikaruga in an action shmup, not a strategy shmup.
Imagine Battle Garegga with the game engine of Ikaruga. DUDE!!!
I am thinking if there is a third 'installment', that it will take the minimalism of Ikaruga, not the 7 weapons of RSG. It will probably be some very simple idea executed extremely well that we'll all be scratching our heads saying 'why didn't we think of that?'

The thought of the inevitable trilogy compilation pack will probably make even more people ('s wallets) happy!
At least for the sake of those with tighter wallets who want RS because in the September Hardcore Gamer Treasure feature, their Senior localization editor Jason Kuo was asked about a possible modern console port of Radiant Silvergun and said there are no plans in the works for it. But with Gunstar Heroes receiving a Sega Ages re-release that could all change. Who knows when though.
Glad I got my copy.

Then the one I posted above. It has been some time since Treasure released a new arcade game. Are you still working for the arcade market and if so, when can we expect the next title?
The arcade team is still hard at work! It developed Radiant Silvergun, then Ikaruga and Gradius V. Yes – Gradius V was originally an arcade game. Konami decided otherwise. But this 'long silence' from our arcade team is because of this change. Had Gradius V been released in the arcade, you would not have felt that Treasure was absent from the arcade for so long. So, yes, the arcade team is working on a new shooter for the Taito Type-X. They actually work in the room beside this one, but they have not arrived yet as they prefer working at night.
Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.

The last game this team worked on was Gradius V, which was released over a year ago. They had to be doing something since then (for Type X, according to the Edge interview), and because Maegawa says, at present, that they have ideas for Project RS-3 but no time, it seems whatever *next* game we get won't be RS-3.
I haven't read anything on an Xbox 360 game either, beyond a single IGN article that didn't state its source.

The closest thing I've seen to anything semi-official about Treasure and X360 was Degenki Online posting around TGS this year that Treasure were developing an "Original shooting game" for X360. We don't know if this is a shmup though, it could be a borderliner.

All I'm pointing out is that a rerelease would suck for collectors, which it would by causing the value to plummet, but benefit everyone else by making it affordable.Ghegs wrote:I so do hope you're kidding.Acid King wrote:Yeah, and everyones copies will dump in price once that happens. Actually, we've seen several instances where the release of a port has escalated the value of the original.Acid King wrote:All I'm pointing out is that a rerelease would suck for collectors, which it would by causing the value to plummet, but benefit everyone else by making it affordable.Ghegs wrote:I so do hope you're kidding.Acid King wrote:Yeah, and everyones copies will dump in price once that happens. And honestly, I would never "collect" anything by Sqaure/Enix... they have a tendancy to over-saturate the market with anything.

FFT wasn't a Square/Enix release, it was originally released by SCEA in the States, just like Einhander, FF7, Bushido Blade and Saga Frontier, all of which went OOP when their agreement ended. And judging by the fact that sealed copies were going for over $120 on ebay before the announcement came that it was going to be rereleased as a greatest hits, I don't think they oversaturated the market.Actually, we've seen several instances where the release of a port has escalated the value of the original.

I'd say that's more or less because nobody wants copies of the game with that fucking ugly green "Greatest Hits" strip on the package. Why do you think there used to be so many requests for a "non-Greatest Hits" version of Symphony of the Night?Acid King wrote:FFT wasn't a Square/Enix release, it was originally released by SCEA in the States, just like Einhander, FF7, Bushido Blade and Saga Frontier, all of which went OOP when their agreement ended. That was before the greatest hits so the ugly ass green stripes didn't exist.... but you bring up an important point... why is it that every "greatest hits" type collection has to mangle the cover of every game?Moogs wrote:I'd say that's more or less because nobody wants copies of the game with that fucking ugly green "Greatest Hits" strip on the package. The PS2 more than likely wouldn't be able to support RSG OR Iky.landshark wrote:I just wish they'd port to the PS2 so the rest of us could play them. Enough with the damned "rarity" of RSG. Let people enjoy it.
First off, PS2 has massive slowdown issues that were never refined or polished... Thus, with the stage's music timed in synch with different parts of a level (as with Iky), you'd end up having the music COMPLETELY off-synch; unless they could make the game use Frame Skip, to keep everything synched up, but it's a known fact the PS2 doesn't like Frame Skipping, (DC did it when it was told to, as with Bangaioh), and even moreso, PS2 doesn't like 2D graphics much. (known fact the PS2 does VERY poorly with 2D games; Hell, look at CAVE's games, it makes you wonder why they didn't just go w/ Dreamcast....)
...in the end, Treasure made a smart decision to avoid the PS2 or Sony in general for their masterpiece trilogy plan. All I can say to people who want RSG-trilogy games on PS2 or PS3.... move on, Sony is NOT the console to own for Treasure games. It's a blessing they developed Gradius V, and an amazement they involved themselves with the crap that is Silhpeed: The Lost Planet.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts, heh. I like nice cover art and whatnot as much as the next guy, but I like getting the same game for less money even better.Neon wrote:But they're cheaper, so hey.
I dunno, most people who've played the arcade versions of DOJ and Galuda seem to think that Arika's ports turned out pretty well...even the inferior Mushi port is at least acceptable and has the "essentials" (proper view mode, framerate, etc.). In any event, whatever the PS2's 2D capabilities, shmup developers, 2D and 3D, have put their stuff on it overwhelmingly moreso than either of the other systems for whatever reason, and that's why I own one.Zweihander wrote:(known fact the PS2 does VERY poorly with 2D games; Hell, look at CAVE's games, it makes you wonder why they didn't just go w/ Dreamcast....)
In any event, I honestly could care less whether or not they port RSG or the like to another system...I already have the Saturn port, paid a bunch for it, all that jazz, but it doesn't make me feel "entitled" or anything; what do I care if others can eventually get it for less, my money's already spent, no use crying over it, heh. Heck, if I was really frugal I could just sell off my Saturn copy and buy the re-release, possibly saving some dough in the process. In any event, I doubt that any re-release (if it even happens) of any of Treasure's old shmups will include the extras and such that the original ports did (most notably RSG's Saturn mode), so I can take some solace in that, heh. And even if they do, as said already, hey, I already have it, and have had it for some time, heh.

What makes you say all this? The Cave games turned out better than arcade perfect (minus Mushi, but that's a porting issue), and 3rd strike is a hell of a lot better on ps2 than DC (no color problems, missing frames, or parrying problems like the DC vers). Those are about the most graphically complex 2d games...period.Zweihander wrote:The PS2 more than likely wouldn't be able to support RSG OR Iky.landshark wrote:I just wish they'd port to the PS2 so the rest of us could play them. PS2 can also run pretty much any Deadcast 3D game when programmed properly. It's more desirable to own them on Dreamcast due to the VGA box, but from what I've read Psyvariar 2, Shiki 2, most other Naomi ports run perfect. Let's not forget Virtua Fighter 4 Evo (Naomi 2).
Anyways, I don't like console wars, but PS2 has DC beat in quantity of arcade ports, and pretty clearly quality (I think you'd agree, if you had ever played one...methinks you don't know what the hell you're talking about)

I'll agree with you on Psyvariar 2; i was astounded by the lack of slowdown in the PS2 version. O_O As for Shiki 2... All I remember is the last stage (PS2 version) and final boss were pretty much unplayable, and had twice the slowdown of the DC version. Also, ever play Gunbird 2 for DC? the PS2 version (on Gunbird: Special Edition) requires LOADING TIME before each boss fight, and for a second or so, the screen freezes. this was absent in the DC version.Neon wrote:PS2 can also run pretty much any Deadcast 3D game when programmed properly. I don't want to start a console war; originally I was simply making a reply which was somewhat pent-up by people whining about wanting Ikaruga on PS2, without knowing the system specs which prevent that from happening. blah.

If Treasure's going to make another project RS game, they're probably going to get G.Rev to make the engine since they're one of the few developers who know how to make shmups scroll in 3D.

That doesn't seem worth it to me. Give me a new PS2, not some 25 dollar check (yay, I need to pay only 130 dollars more for a replacement PS2), a specific free game (that doesn't resolve anything if the game I REALLY want to play is the one causing the Disc Read Error), or a reduced cost for repairs (the thing could get messed up again on the way back to my house).http://www.ps2settlement.com/Index.htm wrote:

If you are a Class Member who has experienced the alleged problems described above, and you return a completed claim form by the appropriate deadline, you could receive one of the following benefits:
* a check for $25 U.S. (or $31 Canadian); or
* one PS2 game from a specified list; or
* repair or replacement – at SCEA’s option – of a PS2 experiencing the above described alleged problems. That repair may be free for some members of the Recent Purchasers Subclass or may cost $41 ($51 Canada) for other members of that subclass as well as for members of the Repair Fee Subclass and the Loss of Use Subclass. You will need to pay the cost to ship the PS2 to and from SCEA’s authorized service provider. This benefit is subject to the service provider confirming that the PS2 has one of the alleged problems described above.
Depending on which subclass you are in, and the level of proof you submit, you may have the option to choose one benefit from among the choices. More specific information about how to tell which benefits you may be eligible for is found below.
Anyway, I do hope that whatever Treasure's making on the Xbox 360 is at least a shmup.

Disc Read Errors: I'm starting to wonder - I see people complaining about this frequently, on the other hand, I've had several PS2s which saw very heavy use, and none ever exhibited this problem until mechanical failure. I have many friends in the UK with abused PS2s, and have never heard them say anything about it (discounting a modded one - modding them is known to upset the laser).
Is this problem something that was seen far more in the US? Is it possible they were using different parts for ones sold in that region? From what I've seen so far, the slimlines are a pile of shit compared to the old ones.
As for PS2/RSG/Ika - not able to handle it? Ok, whatever dude - tell that to Gradius V (and many other PS2 titles that shift a lot of graphics at full speed) - never heard something so ridiculous in my life. All new shmups and ports should definitely appear on the DC instead - yeah, that makes loads of sense...
