RQ: Mushihime Sama Original: 1CC for idiots (ps2)
Hello guys,
today I started playing Mushihime Sama Original on the PS2. It's very fast and tough but I like it a lot. I was able to get into stage 4 two times and I even got until the midboss in stage 5 on a lucky run. . I want to try to 1CC it. I found this guide for scoring but I haven't found one for 1CC'ing this game. Since I don't care about scoring I beg you to provide me some information for 1CC'ing the Original mode because some parts of the game are quite confusing.
1) I played with all "ships" but S seemed the best for a 1CC since it's fast and has good direct damage. Am I right?
2) There are 4 shot modes: Shot (A), Full Auto (C), Rapid Shot (A+) and Rapid Full Auto (C+). Which ones should I use and which settings are the best for the rapid ones?
3) I read that you basically hold A+ and C together all the time and when you need to slow down to make some tap dodges or make your hitbox visible you hold A. Is this correct?
4) Somewhere I read that there is a technique where you tap A+ like a madman while holding C to do more damage. This should only be done when very close to a boss or big enemy and when your rapid fire settings are set correctly. Is this true? I tried it but I could not notice any difference.
5) If 3) and 4) are existent and correct: What does more damage? Tapping A+ while holding C at close range or just "lasering" by holding A and C together or just holding A? Or something completely different?
6) Have I forgotten anything?
Remember that this is all about Original mode on the PS2. I couldn't care less about the bullshit scoring mechanics of Maniac mode.
Plase help me and thanks in advance!

- well, forget about all this nonsense of holding X and tapping Y, that's really only useful on Maniac mode.
- memorize enemy behavior and get used to slowly tap-dodging. Some overlapping patterns are easily avoided when you do this, as opposed to moving too fast.
- positioning definitely helps on survival, especially in stages 4 and 5; depending on where you are when the enemies come in you might have a hard time controlling the situation.
- practice getting the 1UP prior to the 3rd boss (kill all side tips before destroying the center).
keep going, remember that one of the best BGMs of all time awaits you in stage 5

I don't have the PS2 ver so I don't know about autofire settings, but I got by with the basic shot + rapid settings when I went for the clear in the arcade ver without messing around with tapping either. You'll get the extends eventually. See Icarus' post for an explanation of rapid settings (basically A+/Rapid Shot + C/Fullauto is strongest): http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=4049
S Shot is probably the best because of how consistent its damage is. All you need to do is memorize where enemies appear and you do full damage as long as you're in front of them whereas the more spread types have large differences in damage the farther away you are from the enemy. Bullets are also largely focused on speed over sheer density, so the extra movement speed does indeed help. S + Formation is quite popular as it's easy to use and pretty powerful.
Try to avoid switching weapon/option types constantly with every run, if you keep experimenting like that it'll mess you up with boss/enemy kill timings I find. Just pick one and stick with it the whole game and you'll be more consistent in subsequent runs.

You don't have to worry about the autofire stuff, you should hit both score extends automatically just by playing normally. The score extends plus the secret life in stage 3 gives you a lot of resources. You should have 20+ bombs to get through the stuff that looks too difficult to dodge. Good luck!

Maybe Hydeux's 1-sissy can help you, it's one of those he translated in english : http://youtu.be/oLNm3t4C-04

Thanks for all the input! I played again today for about 2 hours and got four times to stage 4 and one time to stage 5. Stage 3 is very hard and at the same time the key for 1CC'ing this I think. I summarize what I think I know right now:
1) Ship S is the best for a 1CC. I try to get the "formation" option. For this I let the option powerup before the Stage 2 boss timeout so I have "formation" in Stage 3 . This helps much.
2) I still don't get the shot button configurations. I use Shot (A) for slowdown, Full Auto (C) and Rapid Shot (A+). I have A+ set to 3. What the fuck does 3 even mean?
I still don't know the answers to these questions:
3) I read that you basically hold A+ and C together all the time and when you need to slow down to make some tap dodges or make your hitbox visible you hold A. Is this correct?
4) Somewhere I read that there is a technique where you tap A+ like a madman while holding C to do more damage. This should only be done when very close to a boss or big enemy and when your rapid fire settings are set correctly. Is this true? I tried it but I could not notice any difference.

Really? I watched the 1-sissy video and he mentioned this technique (at 01:24) too but didn't explain it so that I could understand it... very confusing...Kollision wrote:- well, forget about all this nonsense of holding X and tapping Y, that's really only useful on Maniac mode.

The super shot trick is a lot less important with S than it is with W. With correct rates you can get slight damage increase provided you're close enough to the target but I don't think it's worth bothering with.

Re: RQ: Mushihime Sama Original: 1CC for idiots (ps2)
Played again for 2,5 hours. I am now able to hit stage 4 all the time and I got to stage 5 2 times where I died a miserable death at the midboss both times.
What Erppo and Kollision said helped me. I dropped all that tapping bullshit until the stage 2 boss and just concentrate more on the game itself. I don't use Rapid Shot anymore, just Shot and Full Auto. I tap only at bosses and some parts in Stage 3. I practiced the 1UP so I am now able to always get it (I used stage practise for that).
Level 3 and 4 is still very hard. The first part of Level 5 seems not that hard if you are positioned well. I really have to memorize it. Well same goes for Stage 4.
I don't know if it's just me but in this game I mostly die because I didn't kill off some minibug that keeps firing at high speed out of nowhere. Especially at stage 3 and 4 there are parts where I think I am safe but I am not because I forgot like 2 enemies that turn everything into hell.
Is there a method for always keeping the "formation" option? The other one where the options follow you sucks for me.
Thanks again for the input.

Just like the power-ups, wait until the item switches from "formation" to "trace".ancestral-knowledge wrote:Is there a method for always keeping the "formation" option? The other one where the options follow you sucks for me.
It doesn't take long, it often bounces at the bottom once before switching.

Re: RQ: Mushihime Sama Original: 1CC for idiots (ps2)
Fuck yes! I did it... I got a good run and managed to 1CC Mushihimesama Original for PS2. It's a little bit embarassing that I used 7 bombs for the last boss but for the first 1CC it's alright. The score was 9513827. The key to conquering the game was of course getting into stage4 with 4 lives and 1 bomb in stock. There I lost 2 lives due to general fuckup but I managed to carry over 3 lives and 1 bomb to stage 5. I had to bomb 3 times at the stage 5 midboss and died miserably there but I still got to the last boss with 2 lifes and 7 bombs.
So sweet. When I compare the game to Futari I have to say that I like this one better. There are no dinosaurs or fat ladies. It's more pure and all about insects. I also like that the last boss is not such a crazy bitch like in Futari where you need like a gazillion of bombs to defeat her. The overall bullet speed is fast but I got used to it. What I don't like is the idea that the formations can swap. Even more bizarre is that it seems that you can change your "ship type" with a powerup too. That has to be the stupidest design idea since suiciding. It totally fucks you up in Original and works like a death curse.
Thanks again for all the input. The advice not to worry too much about all the configurations was right and the video from 1-sissy was good. I incorporated some things into my strategy from the video.
Off to the next game!
