Sega Starfox
No it's not happening. Just getting that out in case the title confuses.
I've been thinking about this a lot though. Sega is good and I mean REALLY good with the on rails arcade shooter action. I don't think I need to go into detail with this forum, but am I the only one who thinks they could NAIL a Starfox game?
I personally believe Starfox is dead due to it's inactivity and conscious neglect from Big N, but if Sega were to somehow get permission I could see it as the best one. I don't know how many hours I've put into Afterburner Climax and Galaxy Force II. They've shown that they can handle Nintendo's arcade style games masterfully with F-Zero GX so I don't see why not. :3

Re: Sega Starfox
It'd certainly be interesting to see. They're pretty good with franchises that have strict, demanding gameplay, so I can see them doing a Starfox game would probably work out well. But there's a whole wishlist of existing franchises out there I'd be curious to see done by other companies. Seeing Team Andromeda (Panzer Dragoon) do a Starfox game would also be very interesting. Gradius V is a prime example of how a fresh take on an old series can really be impressive (even if the game is seriously long, the hitbox and weapon tweaks makes it play awesome, <3 you Treasure/G.Rev).
Of course, then there's the times where an incompetent devteam is given a crack at a series they have no business touching.

Re: Sega Starfox
Actually, I would like to see Q-Games (not to be confused with Q-Entertainment. Company owned by Dylan Cuthburt) given another shot with Star Fox. The remake of Star Fox 64 for 3DS and the sequel to X for DSi (X-Scape in US, X-Returns in Japan, and 3D Space Tank in EU) are both good stuff and Q-Games' track record isn't bad.

I never got the chance to try Planet Harriers but heard the gameplay is solid. Maybe one level too short though.

Yep, the F-Zero AX cabinet running on the Triforce arcade platform, there was a cool feature of being able to use your own GC memory card (from the GCN version of F-Zero GX) on it as well. None of the local arcades had gotten in an F-Zero AX cab though...would've been nice to try one out to make some comparisions between it and the GCN version.XoPachi wrote:No it's not happening. It got mixed opinions. Mainly negative from people who bitched about it being too different and people who have white hot hatred towards Krystal for some inexplicable reason.KAI wrote:You should try Cowboy Bebop on PSX.
Was Star Fox by Namco any good?
I personally loved Assault. It had everything Starfox is famous for with an added twist of on foot missions. Great multiplayer, smooth visuals, smooth gameplay, incredible sound that I didn't think was possible on a Nintendo system (talking about the output not composition) and GORGEOUS art design. Seriously look at this. LOOK at this!!

Is that not a gorgeous ship?

But try it. I think it's great and even has some Rally X easter eggs in each level for unlockables I believe. I loved it.
And I was completely unaware CB had a PS1 installment.
(Also, not to sound nitpicky, but be careful. PSX is a completely different console than PS1. :3)
Re: Sega Starfox
I found out something interesting about Q-Games. Kentaro Yoshida, who worked on art for some of the Panzer Dragoon games, is the director of the company. It would be interesting to see Q-Games, Nintendo, and Sega team up for a Star Fox game.
Somehow I thought this topic was about this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bm-ICwWxaAY
Otherwise, sure, Sega might do right by the StarFox formula but honestly it would be nice as some have already suggested to see F-Zero continued on, GX it seems is a long way away.

Re: Sega Starfox
I didn't like Assault, too many foot missions too much Tank, not enough Arwing.
I play Star Fox because it is a On-rails space shooter, if I wanted foot missions I play Killzone, if I want tanks I play Atari's Battle Zone.

Re: Sega Starfox
I also thought the rail shooter parts were a little bland. StarFox 64 is a lot tighter.

Re: Sega Starfox
Yeah, I think the first might be the most actiony of the bunch. Though I can't say how much the feeling of it being dense is helped along by the slow framerate (if you think of it as action-per-frameSerraxor wrote:SNES Starfox is my favorite for life. If a new Starfox was made, it would have to be presented just like the first one. Charge shot notwithstanding, the controls would have to be identical too. Bitchin' music, full-on rails with no "all range", and even the animal gibberish sounds instead of VO. 64 was alright, but I loved the much arcadier feel of "1".

Pretas wrote:There's a rumor that Retro Studios is working on a Wii U StarFox game right now.
What rumor is that?
I prefer the 'rumor' that Kamiya/Platinum could be responsible for the next Starfox game.
Listen to interviews with him regarding his taste and passion for games.
I feel that if he helmed a Starfox project, it would end up feeling more like a modern extrapolation of the better aspects of the franchise, specifically Starfox SNES...
Whereas if Retro manned the helm, I feel it would end up continuing on and including Starfox's N64 DNA.*
...and I wish the N64 game never existed.
* I don't say this because I feel Retro are incapable of recognizing and incorporating the best aspects of a franchise into it's newest iteration. Nor do I feel they're incapable of fantastic art direction. On the contrary, their pre-production work on Donkey Kong Country Returns (wii) is my favorite concept art from this entire generation (link), but for whatever reason, we never saw anything as bold or interesting in the final version.
Re: Sega Starfox
It's not happening. I don't think Nintendo will give up on the being the kid at recess who doesn't share the ball. If Kamiya is making a StarFox, I expect the universe to unravel and time to end.
Re: Sega Starfox
It's not happening? That's way too confident re: this matter.
Nintendo's first party studios can't keep up production this gen. Note the troubles they're having developing for two consoles, one of them being HD. That's why they're allowing so many outside studios develop their IPs. Considering their current relationship with Platinum, and the relatively worthless state of the Starfox IP... it's doesn't seem entirely unlikely.
As far as rumors go, it's plausible.

Wait, what? Lots of Nintendo games this last decade have been produced by 3rd parties, including some pretty beloved stuff like the main Metroid series...It's not happening. Re: Sega Starfox
Not to mention X, which was also from Argonaut (Dylan Cuthburt specifically). I'm still hoping they will go with Q-Games again, or even have them co-develop. Star Fox Command sounds disappointing, but much of their other stuff, including the excellent sequel to X is well done.louisg wrote:Wait, what? I was surprised when I looked at the credits of Star Fox 64. I thought Dylan Cuthburt was involved, but he isn't in the credits, so he apparently wasn't.

For DSiWare. Called 3D Space Tank in Europe, X-Scape here in the US, and X-Returns in Japan. The disappointing thing is that it wasn't very hyped up. I actually thought the same thing when I found out about it. It's one of my favorite DSi ware titles. It plays similar to the first game with the mission based structure, but takes place on multiple planets. The game is made to look like classic polygonal games and runs at a smooth framerate. I also like how the touch controls are optional.louisg wrote:Wait, there was a sequel to X???

Re: Sega Starfox
That would be a seriously awesome game, considering how After Burner Climax was such a gorgeous, smooth-playing game.XoPachi wrote:I've been thinking about this a lot though. Re: Sega Starfox
I think SEGA AM2 is really the only developer qualified to do a Star Fox at the moment, due to After Burner Climax. It always confuses me when I hear people say they want Star Fox done by developers like Retro Studies and Hideki Kamiya from Platinum Games when they really haven't demonstrated that they know anything about designing games in the 3D shoot 'em up genre. At least AM2 is a sure bet.
Ideally though we would have Miyamoto himself do another Star Fox, but he just doesn't seem to care about it anymore. Maybe he just ran out of ideas with SF64. I do remember him saying in an interview that if the 3DS remake sold well enough they might make another though.
As for Kamiya, he said recently that he no longer wants to do a Star Fox because people pestered him about it too much.

Of course, that's just an opinion.

Ghost Squad surprised me nicely, but the other day I wanted to ask who REALLY plays their Super Scaler shooters nowadays. I also remember beating the final boss of Panzer Dragoon Zwei way too easily for my liking.
