Does the lock-on sound in Ketsui annoy anybody?
It's a great game regardless. But that was a nitpicky thing about it that always bothered me.

I find it to be an awesome sound. I listen to it on my iPod on repeat every single day.

You can use the oldest version to avoid it being so loud, if you're using emulation. It doesn't really bother me when playing the pcb but I'd make it softer if given the choice. I don't know why they turned it up, I guess noisy arcades...

The sound doesn't really bother me, but I tend to hear it around me after I'm done playing a long session.

It's awesome when you're on a game night or watching a video of a gamenight, because it's so distinctive and you know straight away what game it is. If you walk into an arcade and hear that sound, you just know straight away that Ketsui is IN THE HOUSE!

Not in the slightest. The most instantly recognizable STG jingle/sound effect ever made, in my opinion.

I ask because the sound was driving my family nuts. I understand their point (and anybody else who isn't into the game) but I also understand how the sound could be endearing for fans

Somebody needs to make a ring tone.
Come to think of it, can't believe that never made a Matsuri.

If you REALLY want to drive them nuts grab the Japanese DC release of Giga Wing 2.MrOldSchoolCool wrote:I ask because the sound was driving my family nuts.

Not at all, so that way it is completely recognizable whether or not you locked on to something you needed to or not. Even though I was playing it with headphones on in the past and a few people told me to turn it down :<

Re: Does the lock-on sound in Ketsui annoy anybody?
Yes and no. It used to seriously annoy me to hear the beeping constantly, but I prefer a higher music vs sound effect balance in games, so I'm biased. It doesn't bother me quite so much lately, but it'd still be nice to have a Ketsui version that doesn't have the beeping effect at all (or at half volume) without having to play an older version of it. Usually I judge if I'm locked on to something by how many lines of lockshots are firing, if I'm in front I know I'll get a lock, etc.
Or the even more annoying american release that removed the voices entirely without any option to use them. :\BulletMagnet wrote:If you REALLY want to drive them nuts grab the Japanese DC release of Giga Wing 2.

What annoys me are the squeaks of level 4 in Futari, anyone know what I'm talking about and/or agree?

I know exactly what you're talking about because I remember practicing that stage ages ago and seriously wondering if it was my stick making the noise and it needed oiling or something haha.Aleksei wrote:What annoys me are the squeaks of level 4 in Futari, anyone know what I'm talking about and/or agree?

Those squeaks always bug me because my joystick DOES squeak, so when I play that stage, I always think that my joystick is squeaking way worse than normal.dannnnn wrote:I know exactly what you're talking about because I remember practicing that stage ages ago and seriously wondering if it was my stick making the noise and it needed oiling or something haha.Aleksei wrote:What annoys me are the squeaks of level 4 in Futari, anyone know what I'm talking about and/or agree?

Personally, I do think the lock on sound is a bit annoying, in DDP max too. It's a great recognizable trait though.

It's such a pleasing sound. I can see it being annoying without context, but it's not bothersome at all while playing.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Re: Does the lock-on sound in Ketsui annoy anybody?
When I first got Futari and made it to that stage playing with, at the time, brand new arcade stick I thought there was something wrong or it was breaking in.dannnnn wrote:I know exactly what you're talking about because I remember practicing that stage ages ago and seriously wondering if it was my stick making the noise and it needed oiling or something haha.Aleksei wrote:What annoys me are the squeaks of level 4 in Futari, anyone know what I'm talking about and/or agree?
To stay on topic, I like that lock on sound, not as much as the gem collecting noise in Progear, but it has that same kinda ring to it.
