Saturn AR cart
Saturn AR cart
I have one of the white clone AR carts for the Saturn. It's supposed to have the 1m/4M memory in it too, but it refuses to load Metal Slug and plays Cotton in lo-res. Apparently there is some sort of fix for this, involving 1 wire and a bit of soldering. Can anyone enlighten me please?

Re: Saturn AR cart
The white AR Carts (no label) only disable regional lock-out. The Gray ones with labels are the 4-in-1 carts that disable regional lockout, have a 4M and 1M automatic switch, and have 512k of backup memory.M0nk3y wrote:I have one of the white clone AR carts for the Saturn. The AR fix is for 4MB carts that won't work with games that require the 4MB expansion. Metal Slug needs only the 1MB expansion so that's not the issue here. You could just try opening the cartridge to see if there really are any RAM chips in it.
(The 4MB carts don't "auto switch", the 1MB games also accept the 4MB carts.)

Yeah, I've got a nice sexy white Japanese Saturn, with one of these installed: http://seb.riot.org/saturnmod/
So I don't need the cart for imports, just for the extra RAM. Brought it ages ago off Ebay. Oh well, best hunt down a proper Japanese 1m/4m cart.....

Some individual cartridges may have problems, but no 1MB game will refuse to start with a 4MB cart inserted. I've personally played eg. Samurai Shodown 4 with a 4MB Action Replay even though some claim it's incompatible. Since the cartridge size detection is entirely passive from the cartridge's point of view there is not even any way it could automatically switch. There are carts that have a physical switch that set the cartridge ID, but it's actually completely unnecessary.

You could also use Sega Saturn Game Shark to play imports...
The Interact produced Game Shark cheat device for the Sega Saturn allows a plain-vanilla USA region SS the ability to play Japanese SS games and even doubles as a external SS game memory save cart as well!
I bought two used from my local Gamestop store for about $5-$10 a piece and is a really cheap-ass way to play those cool Japanese SS game imports if you don't want to mod chip your SS console (but who would not want to anyways)!

Re: Saturn AR cart
gwise from your gwave
well, I just tried to run Cotton 2 on my good old Tectoy Saturn with a 4-in-1 action replay cart and bang...
it doesn't work!
after I get the loading message the screen blinks for a split second and goes dark for good
ABC + Start does not work
played a few other games to test the cart, and they ran just fine
from what I remember I did test Cotton 2 when I got it, but now the thing is just refusing to work
anybody ever went through this?
tips?
