Assuming original mode, about 70% tougher. Black Label is a cakewalk in comparison.

Everyone's favourite hate point. It's much more of a clusterfuck in 1.5, but practice, determine a route, and you're all good. Chances of always having to bomb the boss's last pattern however, 9/10.

Very good question, I've been wondering the same. A possibility is that it's based on how many enemies you kill, or how many waves of them you kill.

How does Vs. Gradius compare against the Famicom version? I can't find much info about it.

Perhaps it has to do with how many of the planes you blow up and how many you clip and send to a fiery death on the ground?

Might be reading too much into it, but it actually happened twice last night. My little lad was still up and on full volume so I couldn't really concentrate, and on both games I didn't clear the first red wave completely and missed the power up. First time I've had it occur twice in one session, shall try again later.

It's ok, PCSX2 is what you want to use, some games slow down too much but most work fine.

Yeah, thats what I expected but is "fine" really enough ? The first game I want to try is Ibara, and I somehow doubt it'll be okay

Ibara has missing slowdown in the ps2 version anyway, so with the emulator slowdown, it might just work... why dont you try the games on mame?

There really is no way to know how a specific game will behave in advance, I haven't tried Ibara.
Just know there's usually a ton of speedfix options to check out, so it's not a disaster if it doesn't work right away.

I'll try both, this will be my first time with a PC good enough to fully run a PS2 emulator (tried it a few month a go and it was a total disaster) so I'm just really excited about the possibilities and numerous games I've never played or can't emulate on MAME.

Ok then, I guess I'll just have to try them all and play around with the configuration, I was fearing answers like you can't, or its no good for STGs.

Thanks for the answers [:

In this run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCEInk3zs_0 I miss the first power-up, but I dont' get the 1-up formation until late in stage 4.

Does anyone know if it's worth picking up a Japanese Wii for Illvelo? It looks like it could be fun but it also looks really confusing :/

Hello, is there a list of all websites/forums related to shooting games ? I know I've seen a lot, and still occasionally stumble uppon small wonders full of STG goodness but I'm sure there is still much I've never heard of.
In any case if it doesn't already exist a list compiling all these (no mather the language, past and present) would be amazing.
Thanks in advance !

I can't speak from personal experience, but I would guess that it probably emulates well, since the GC and Wii are both very stable in Dolphin. Might be a good way to try it out without spending $$$.

And 7711, I used to play Ibara exclusively through PCSX2. Now I own the PCB, and I also do some practice in an older MAME build which has a bunch of unstable bugs and no savestate support. However, if you have the graphics settings configured properly and a computer powerful enough to run PCSX2 in the first place, Ibara should definitely be playable.

Just know that it won't look as pretty (due both to the port's graphics being weird and PCSX2's scaling) as it would in MAME or on the original arcade board.

Buy the game and softmod your wii to play it (assuming you have one in the first place).

I looked into this after seeing your post and I had no idea that wii/gamecube emulation had come this far :O Thanks!

I was planning on getting the standalone release but seeing as it's on Milestone's Shooting Collection 2 with NOA, I might as well get that instead. Thanks!

This is a pretty good idea since Illvelo is currently the only Japanese exclusive game that I want to play on the Wii! I think that I will go with your suggestion! And yeah, I already have two Wiis (one PAL, one NTSC) :P

BareknuckleRoo wrote:The arcade versions of Espgaluda II and DFK actually let you select your controls between

Type A (Type B in DFK)

[Shot] [Kakusei(Galuda)/Bomb(DFK)] [Bomb(Galuda)/Hyper(DFK)]

or

Type B (Type A in DFK)

[Shot] [Kakusei(Galuda)/Bomb(DFK)] [Rapid]
[Bomb(Galuda)/Hyper(DFK)]

after picking your character.

The first Espgaluda also lets you swap the 3rd and 4th buttons (Bomb & Rapid) if you're holding them for a second or two when you press the start button, so it's kind of a hidden controls tweak that was later made into an actual selection screen after shot type select.

Having checked some videos, it seems Galuda II's Type A and Type B are reversed from DFK's control select for Type A and Type B. Just remember when you're selecting the controls that the green button is always Rapid Fire and you'll be fine.
:looks down at controls:

Which green button?!

Wii modding is incredibly easy. It's a shame there's not more games worth importing.

Also, don't buy Illvelo, buy Milstone Collection 2. Radirgy, Noa, Chaos Field, Kaorus, Illvelo.

IIRC the stand-alone Illvelo release has an extra mode or something like that, if you're only interested in the one game (though the second Collection is still a very good deal).
