Who else is waiting for the real Ace Combat 7, not an Assault Horizon sequel?

Re: Ace Combat
Yeah, it'd sure be nice if Namco were to do a proper Ace Combat 7 sequel.
I recall playing the huge rear-projection TV monitor based arcade game of Namco's Air Combat 22 back in the mid-1990s at the Camelot Park's arcade (aka Boomers nowdays). And get this, they even had gotten in a rare Microprose F-15 Strike Eagle arcade game as well.

I have been wondering about this for a long time now; what would it be like if just for the hell of it there was a Raiden game made in an Ace Combat-style way?

Re: Ace Combat
I expect Raiden games to have very detailed scenery (quite demolishable at that). Even III, budget as it looks, ticks all the boxes. Red fighter jet would look silly in a "flight sim" and the bossfights would be eyebrow-rising.
Speaking of bosses, Raiden is the only series where muzzle flash looking different during bossfights to make the point that the plane have stopped caught my attention, so that box would need to be ticked too.

Re: Ace Combat
While Raiden III did have 3D graphics, I do miss the destructible environments from 2/DX. I also miss the different types of bombs. While they did progress graphics-wise, I feel like it came at a price when they removed the destructible scenery and the multiple types of bombs. Now about the jet looking silly in a flight sim, well, Raiden does take place in the near future, with the first game taking place in the year 2090, so of course it looks futuristic. However, the Raiden jet does resemble some real-life jets. In the original Raiden, there was the Raiden Supersonic Attack Fighter. http://www.arcade-museum.com/images/118 ... 155259.jpgObiwanshinobi wrote:I expect Raiden games to have very detailed scenery (quite demolishable at that). I think it kind of resembles a combination of an F-16 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... e_2008.jpg and an SU-27 http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/russia/airdef/su-27-2.jpg
In this picture you can see the resemblance to the SU-27 http://cgrempire.com/wp-content/uploads ... er_800.jpg
In Raiden II and DX the jet is the successor to the one in Raiden I. It is now called the Raiden MK-II. http://i.ytimg.com/vi/0kyvaLxzU80/0.jpg This time, I see a combination of an F-14 http://www.fiddlersgreen.net/aircraft/G ... akeoff.jpg and an SU-27, but again with only one tail fin instead of two.
In Raiden III, you can see that it has changed once again, this time it's the Fighting Thunder ME-02 http://www.hongfire.com/cg/showphoto.ph ... -02&cat=12
According to the Wikipedia page, In Raiden IV, it's known as the Fighting Thunder ME-02 Kai, which is only slightly different from its predecessor. http://assets1.ignimgs.com/2009/05/28/r ... 870194.jpg

Re: Ace Combat
I guess it does resemble Raiden somewhat, but I am curious to see how the purple lock-on laser would be implemented into a flight-sim game. Also that level reminds me of Ace Combat 6, which I have never played though.Gespenst wrote:Aerofighters Assault comes in mind.Emo Fox Jet Pilot wrote:I have been wondering about this for a long time now; what would it be like if just for the hell of it there was a Raiden game made in an Ace Combat-style way?

Purple laser, Bombs, is the Raiden jet.

Re: Ace Combat
Raiden plane is RED. Haven't seen military aircraft painted red even during summer holidays in the area where those were a fairly usual sight.
While the environments in III aren't quite as destructible as in 2D predecessors, the explosions leave glimmering craters on ground. By "ticking the boxes", I meant that (among other things).

Re: Ace Combat
Red is a highly unusual color for a military jet, and Raiden 2 and DX had glimmering craters also. In 2 and DX, sometimes aircraft would crash into the ground after being shot down, leaving behind damaged scenery. In Raiden III, aircraft never crash into the ground, they either explode in midair or fall a little and explode ABOVE the ground. The only thing that leaves craters in Raiden III are destroyed ground enemies. Also, the shrapnel from destroyed enemies was more detailed in 2/DX, because it would actually leave ripples in water or dust clouds in dirt. In Raiden III and IV, as well The Raiden Fighters series and Viper Phase 1, there was less shrapnel from destroyed enemies, and it always disappeared before hitting the ground. Raiden II and DX had the most detail out of all the Raiden games.Obiwanshinobi wrote:Raiden plane is RED. Re: Ace Combat
2D Raidens are from the day and age when coin-op games still had best graphics around. III and IV, on the other hand, are from a completely different period in the history of arcade gaming. Last coin-op game that didn't look low on assets to me was Spica Adventure (and that was already an exception).

Re: Ace Combat
I suppose that's all true, but the least they could have done was make the newer Raiden games with Assault Horizon-style destruction. The graphics were good, but the detail in which they were handled could have been better.Obiwanshinobi wrote:2D Raidens are from the day and age when coin-op games still had best graphics around. Re: Ace Combat
I'm sure it can't be that bad, it will most likely have joystick support and if you have a good computer and graphics card, the graphics will be better than the console versions.Gespenst wrote:Ugh.Making its debut on PC Q1 of 2013; ACE COMBAT™ ASSAULT HORIZON - ENHANCED EDITION features controls and graphics that have been optimized for PC users.

Re: Ace Combat
It took a company like Capcom years to get to the point when they could put out good PC ports (and develop the underlying technology needed for doing so).
Based on Namco's experience with PC ports (Have they actually developed any themselves? The new Ridge Racer and Dark Souls were other developers), I would be hoping for basic functionality at this point. (Look at Ridge Racer and Dark Souls for an idea of how much graphical improvement we can expect.)
Still, I'm interested in this, especially since I just picked up a wired 360 controller.

Re: Ace Combat
To be fair, Breath of Fire IV was technically decent... Except all sprites were filtered (eurgh) and PSX textures didn't exactly make for better looking 3D accelerated in high resolutions, no matter how much FA&AA you forced.Remembrance wrote:It took a company like Capcom years to get to the point when they could put out good PC ports (and develop the underlying technology needed for doing so).
Namco published I-Ninja for the PC, but I think it was multiplatform from the word go. Still, if you can live with StarForce, very little is wrong with that version. Maybe that with only one of the USB joypads I played it with the vibrations worked properly.Remembrance wrote:Based on Namco's experience with PC ports (Have they actually developed any themselves? Remember that cel-shaded Ace Combat wannabe thing? It has gone (quite) far now (and still lack of love). Here's how 'far' it have gone (although still sorta buggy and lack of proper feature, from what I've heard)

Ace Combat 7: Idolm@ster Squadron. Do it!
But seriously, fingers crossed. (I had no idea the world was called 'Strangereal'. Figured that was just a weird adjective they came up with.)

I would like to see futuristic planes one more time.
Re: Ace Combat
I just noticed that this year is Ace Combat's 20th anniversary (counting from the very first game, the arcade-only Air Combat), therefore I think it wouldn't sound too surprising if this eventually turn out to be AC HD remasters (plus people have been begging for it all days and nights ever since).
