PS3 woes with video

Post by neorichieb1971 »

My step son lives in the Philippines and reports that the video upon boot up forces 480i or p and then the TV reports an "unsupported signal". I've googled the issue but nobody seems to have resolved it.

Its a PS3 slim (not the newest one).

The connection is HDMI into a Sony Bravia 26" TV bought new about 3 years ago. They have no aircon so it was always a concern in the 100 degrees weather that it would be strained. In April the PS3 worked fine. The setup at the back of the machine is hard to get to and out of the way, so the likely hood of something snagging a cable is almost impossible. When I set this up 2 years ago it was exactly the same way 3 months ago when I last checked it.

So does anyone know a fix for this? Due to their money constraints they haven't used a 2nd cable yet to test that aspect. But others who have had these symptoms already stated this did not work.

Any help is welcome. Its a Hong Kong machine. Thanks.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

From the official PlayStation Knowledge Center

While the PS3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the PS3 beeps a second time (approximately 5 seconds), then release it.
The PS3 will power up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).

Then you can manually change your video settings.
