A forum I used to frequent alot had a 100 post restriction to access the trading forum. You also couldn't access it if you had accumulated a certain warn level. Maybe something like that would benefit here.

100 is a bit extreme, but enough that you need to be an active member first I'd totally applaud. I think 25 posts would be enough to discourage folk who potentially just want to visit for the shopping experience.AntiFritz wrote:A forum I used to frequent alot had a 100 post restriction to access the trading forum. hahaha yeah. I just won an auction for Super R-Type (twas dirt cheap though so I have zero right to complain) and not only does the cartridge look like this:superpretendo wrote:Names written in permanent marker on classic game cartridges or CDs. Yeesh, the fuck. Never seen a cart so badly treated before. Even my brutally abused [by my standards] Pokemon Yellow cart looked practically mint in comparison to that picture [even though the front art had peeled at some point].ChurchOfSolipsism wrote:hahaha yeah. And putting stickers on the back is infinitely preferable to writing names in marker. It's pretty easy to remove stickers in comparison.
I'm pretty glad I mostly deal with CD based games, replacing a case is piss-easy, and people usually write on them instead of the disc. Usually.

They're trying to cut down the number of fake / troll reviews from developers of shitty apps trying to bump their ratings or bring down others, it actually makes sense in that respect. Linking people's reviews to their personal profiles means they're less likely to write a load of bullshit, or at least makes gaming the system a lot more time consuming. What do you need to write a review for so badly that this makes you mad? (but not so badly that you're prepared to set up a Google+ page).null1024 wrote:fuck cunt why

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Google + is the Facebook wannabe that complains if you set your profile picture to something that it doesn't recognize as a human face ("are you sure that's a picture of yourself?!"). It's not so much the fact that you need an account, it's that you need an account on a system that begs and whines for you to give it all your personal information. Youtube has the exact same issue - it got tied to Google +, and constantly whines about "OH PLEASE LET ME USE YOUR REAL NAME ON YOUR CHANNEL!!!1one" so everyone's account pictures got wiped and are now whatever Google + image is... but you can't upload a Google + image less than 500x500 px, so if you had an old, small avatar pic you liked for the channel, you had to get a bigger one (which it then resizes of course, it's retarded).PAPER/ARTILLERY wrote:They're trying to cut down the number of fake / troll reviews from developers of shitty apps trying to bump their ratings or bring down others, it actually makes sense in that respect. Yeah that is shitty. that's pretty much Google's M.O. at the minute though, provide you with a bunch of compelling free services for the cost of your personal information. at the end of the day their business is selling advertising space, they want to know what to sell to you.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Almost created a new thread for this but then I stopped raging and calmed down
Anyway, games nowadays are patronizing me and it's driving me up the walls. The waaalls.
As an example, I've played two racing games recently that have committed serious crimes against you, the player. The accused are GRID 2 and just released GT 6 Academy.
The crimes are as follows:
- Removal of the "main menu" & options when starting out playing for the first time.
- Limiting the player's range of options, regardless of skill level & prior experience, forcing the player to (in this case) use automatic transmission, and in the case of GT 6, not giving the player the ability to turn off all the help systems & change settings until later.
This shit is annoying. To be fair, GRID 2 does have a main menu...sort of. You have the choice over single player or multi player. If it's your first time playing the game and you select single player,
you're thrown right into a loading screen, and then a race with some guy telling you that "pull this one win off and we can get tons of fans, man!".
Now, if you pause the game here you can access the full options and also change controls & transmission. I just don't like how it assumes I want to drive automatic and didn't bother asking me.
GT 6 is way worse, with how you have to drive a full lap using the very awkward standard controls - triggers exists for a reason, use them! - also locking you to a single camera view (in-car view) until you've driven a certain distance. And when you finally get to start racing, you can't select manual transmission and you can't turn off annoying "help systems" like anti skid and so on until you progress further with the races.
And every stupid car has that anti skid thing on as standard. Why won't my powerslide work? Because something is stopping my rear wheels from turning and thanks to that, I've left the course and hit a wall. Fantastic
Maybe it's ruining the "seamless" and "cinematic experience" you want your games to be, but I want a proper menu, full control over any options that affect gameplay including re-mapping the controls, available to me the first time I run the game. It used to be this way, now why do you take it away from me?
/end of ranting
Ideally, the proper way go about it is clearly having a overly excited voice ask the player to select a track, which naturally consists of a beginner, intermediate and expert course, a vehicle to drive and type of transmission and then celebrating all these good choices with hearty shout out to all the ladies & gentlemen present to "start their engines".
And then having the most amazing rolling start ever.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I actually can't stand the triggers for accel/brake, but not being able to customize your controls before starting is disgusting [putting an Options menu on the title screen helps a bunch -- I actually like when games immediately get me into some action, but let me set things up first!]. Reminds me of Armored Core 1, where you had to fight to be able to start the game, and only afterward could you map your controls. What should have been the easiest thing ever was effing hard because I hate PS1 style left/right rotate [left and right should strafe, of courseJi-L87 wrote: GT 6 is way worse, with how you have to drive a full lap using the very awkward standard controls - triggers exists for a reason, use them! - also locking you to a single camera view (in-car view) until you've driven a certain distance. Also, that anti-skid thing certainly brings new focus on why the GT6 demo feels the way it does. Gonna see if I can turn that off.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Oh it's the best...on the 360 pad. My fingers slips on the PS3 triggers, they're horrible. Mushy, even. I think you can buy things....guards?...that can be put on the triggers to help things out but that just further shows how bad those triggers are. But for me, using the face buttons for accel/brake just doesn't feel right, especially now in 2013. Even if they're pressure sensitive, it's too finicky.null1024 wrote: I actually can't stand the triggers for accel/brake,
I recently got Ridge Racer 6, after having played RR 7 for a while, and the ability to use the 360's nice responsive triggers made the game so much more fun to play. The new PS4 pad though seems to have a more proper trigger design, got my hopes up for that one, aye.
It's in the pre-race menu. Icon looks like a dial. They had it in GT 4 & 5 as well, to my knowledge. It's fine to have, but don't put it on as default. The worst thing about it though is that it's not an "on/off"-thing, it's a slider and there's no option in the settings to turn it off, always for all eternity, rather you must do that for every car before every race. GAHnull1024 wrote:Also, that anti-skid thing certainly brings new focus on why the GT6 demo feels the way it does. Gonna see if I can turn that off.

And while we're on the subject on GT6, is it just me or does the game overall feel floaty & pretty slow? I could really feel how the framerate dropped when using the in car-view or when the time attack ghost car appeared. Even watching the replays felt slow. And I can't say it felt "real" either, rather like the cars had no real friction and all of them suffered severe understeer or something. I never really feel I had 100% control over my car. Spun off the track a number of times without really understanding why I lost control in the first place...
And I keep hitting cars in front of me because I assume the bumper cam is actually in the bumper-area and not further back.
Or I just suck at Gran Turismo-games. Which is sorta true, I guess.

"could of happened" "would of been"
No idea where this grammar error came into common use, but the word should be 'have', as in 'could have happened/been, etc'. Likewise, 'could've', 'should've' or 'would've' are all short for 'could/should/would have', not the word 'of'.
Apparently it probably came about from people confusing the 've' part in something like should've as literally being the word 'of': http://www.elearnenglishlanguage.com/di ... ld-of.html
