wow this album is incredible. it builds up tension constantly and never releases it or allows you to get comfortable. definitely a good experiment in how extreme music can be.

A Bell Is a Cup ... Until It Is Struck by Wire. Took me years to get hooked on their music (this tune helped last year's spring). One therapeutic album.

Swarth is better than Vexovoid but yeah, check out either.

Cro Magnox by Ceephax. Great acid techno album. Feels very much like a video game OST.

Listened to My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless" for the first time in a while today - still as glorious as it was back in 1991

"Soon" still puts a smile on my face - probably the best end to any album i've heard. The whole album is one glorious sound scape. <3

Outside of that i'm catching up on some recommendations from other people- Jake Bugg's self titled album seems good, catching up on Loom to see what the fuss is about.

Gotta second Cro Magnox, that one really surprised me. Ceephax is great. Also from following him on Facebook found out he's a Cardiacs fan too :)

Side project from the frontman of Mind In A Box. Honestly it's the best thing he's done, better than the previous album and better than any of the MIAB albums - same sort of stuff - trancy synthpop, but there's a lot more up-tempo stuff here and he's strongly channeling the spirit of Jean Michel Jarre in some of the tracks. It's fantastic to be honest.
Seriously? Even better than Crossroads? Cause I really really love that album.
Yep, better than Crossroads IMO.

I just wanted to pop in to say that the new Daft Punk album is a complete piece of shit. I just could not belive it...it's a total disgrace and sucks on every musical aspect. I don't even want to talk about it. It's that bad.

ontopic: the new Empire of the Sun album (Ice On The Dune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7q9KdueYsx4 ) is amazing !

It's pretty easy to say what's wrong with the Daft Punk album... they wanted to get an analog sound but didn't have big enough ideas where to take it. So they challenged themselves and had a lot of big names in the studio but made some really forgettable music that doesn't pay much tribute to the sound they're trying to honor or build on it at all. I'll be surprised if any singles from it take off besides Get Lucky, which is really good, but the rest of the album plays like a barely engaging history lesson. I love Giorgio Moroder, but I don't want to hear some big monologue by him before a track!

Listened to the first three albums by Kraan this morning. German jazz fusion rock from the early 70's. Great until the mid 70's kicks in on album 4.

Stuff like that Moroder track strikes me as an attempt at grandiosity and deepness by an artist better known for making fun, brainless music. I love Discovery and Alive '07 but uh, yeah.

Dream Death -- Journey into Mystery -- a reexamination of the "classic" after digging the new one. To Mega Therion Celtic Frost w/ Slayer vocals. Doesn't quite match the best of either, but still a fine formula.
The Fire Show - all of 'em
Jessica Bailiff -- At the Down-Turned Jagged Rim of the Sky
Jessica Pratt - s/t -- most of this sounds like a folk/singer songwriter album from around 1970. Like it was actually released in 1970. Not like bands of today trying to sound like early Black Sabbath but still sounding a bit off. I dig it, since it's a quality work and love that stuff/already mined that well (Bridget St. John, Vashti, Karen Dalton, Linda Perhacs, etc.).

Haha, sounds like what I would have been listening to 5 or 6 years ago. That Saosin and Underoath got some heavy play back then. I think I first heard '7 years' in a skate(roller blades) video and I was hooked! Although, I rarely listen to anything like that these days.

Blood Ceremony - The Eldritch Dark

Living With the Ancients stands as one of my best "never heard of it, but why not?" buys ever, so I've been googling them occasionally to find out if there's been news of a new album. A couple days ago I discovered that their third album dropped a month ago, and bought it on the spot. I'm very not disappointed.

I've been listening to this a lot! UK hip-hop from Dirty Dike in the form of his new LP Return of the Twat!

It's very crude, fairly NSFW, could offend, but boasts amazing beats and incredible rapping. I find the sense of humour right up my street too. I can't get enough.

Here's the video of the title track; bloody brilliant!

Other people on the same label (High Focus) worth checking out include Jam Baxter and Verb T.

Head of the Demon - s/t
Phew - s/t
PIL - Metal Box
DAF - Alles ist gut / Gold und Liebe
Gang of Four - Solid Gold

From Wisdom to Hate and Obscura still rank for me as two of the best albums ever, Luc has such a good handle on composition. The first two albums are excellent old school death metal as well, one of the greats are Gorguts. No doubt the new one lives up to the legacy, can't wait to hear it.

Obscura is some seriously next-level shit. I love Nile and Spawn of Possession and all but they don't have the inventiveness of that album.

On that note:

Deathspell Omega - Fas -- Ite, Maledicti, in Ignum Aeternum

Surreal, dissonant metal. It sounds a lot like the cover looks.

And I haven't been listening to just metal, but hey, it helps me focus while I'm typing.

Heh good music to focus the mind to i find, as counter intuitive as that may seem. It focuses my mind anyway :D.

And yeah Fas is brilliant. Reckon Kénôse is their finest though (closely followed by Paracletus).

Devil Doll - Dies Irae

I've only known about them for a few days now and this albums already in my top 5 albums (or atleast top 10).

Shame he's not interested in releasing new music (but supposedly continues to produce albums).
