illuminating the Egret 2 / Atomiswave Marquee's ?

Post by AKRATEN »

Hello
I was wondering if anyone had a good solution for illuminating the marquees on the Egret 2 cabs.
Image
i was trying to avoid putting up track lighting , just curious if anyone ran into this.
It would be really cool to be able to see the art.
:D

Thanks!

A few years back, Ikea sold the original LED tracking lighting strips (that came with four LED strips to a set and you could add more or less if desired to accomodate your needs) that could change to different colors or cycle through them under the Ikea Dioder name. It retails for $40.00 USD.

The blue LED color light scheme looks great for illuminating such an arcade marquee indeed or even going with an all white lighting setup (or you could implement the slick LED color cycle lighting functionality to attract attention as well).

Yeah, I bought one of those original Ikea Dioder LED lighting strip sets from a few years back (has a slightly different push-button activated master switch for selecting the desired color/color cycling mode). The actual lighting is super bright indeed and I personally like the cool blue colored LED lighting scheme myself (it gives off that slick futuristic ambience type of glow/flair).

I think if Ikea were to implement a variable LED contrast dial to dial down the lighting intensity on their LED lighting strips from really dim to super bright, it'd work wonders.

It's my pleasure, AKRATEN. The lit marquees look quite nice indeed.

Thanks, I'll be getting a pair of those for my cabs! Did you try putting the strips behind the art? If using repro art, perhaps having it printed on lightbox material would look like the bees knees? 8)

I tried moving the light to the back but it was still hard to see the artwork but that is a great suggestion about moving the light and printing on velum or some sort of translucent paper. I bet that would look great!

I thought of that solution but didnt want the light on the front of the marquue.
Put it behind instead.
Making the marquee in backlit material is an interesting thought though...

Was browsing through my local Costco yesterday and came across the Sylvania LED Mosaic Flexible Light kit for a mere $29.99 USD. Bought it right away and gave it a test drive. Plenty of cool LED lighting options up the wahzoo. Comes with a handy IR remote to change the LEDs from any of the 17 different colors of the rainbow spectrum including white (with four different visual effects that can be applied to the chosen color{s} as well + the ability to dim or brighten the overall color to your heart's desire). It, certainly, is more of an upgrade with some slick 'n' cool perks compared to the orignal 1.0v release of the Ikea Dioder LED strip lighting kit (which isn't flexible at all) that I bought sometime back. The flexible LED strips that come with this particular Sylvania Mosaic lighting kit is trimmable from it's overall length of 2 feet to a shorter length if so desired (which is a plus in my book). However, the included manual states that peeling back the 3M sticky backing portion of the LED flexible strip and mounting it to any surface applied is permanent/can't be removed.

Gradual color cycling is possible as well as changing the overall speed from super slow to super fast (in sixteen levels of user selected speeds) is doable, indeed.

On the back of the Sylvania Mosaic lighting kit blister packaging, there's a little message -- For an exclusive Costco deal on the Sylvania Mosaic Extension Kit, visit http://www.sylvania.com/mosaickit and enter promo code: mosaic4costco
