This port will most likely sell much less than the 360 port. But in the unlikely event that it sells the same or a bit better, the most you'll see is a PS3 port of Bullet Soul.
Why not DOJ?
Because the code for the 360 version was reverse engineered code stolen from a previous PS2 release, and they had to pull all copies from the shelves, hence why the game is not available new anywhere.

DDP DOJ for the X360 is still available. I just checked Play Asia. The price is inflated, though.

How strange. That's the first time I've seen it being offered new for years.

Couldn't they just get the rights issues cleared up for a release on PS3 and release it?

I assume they didn't bother reprinting it on 360 because it sold a decent amount and probably wouldn't sell much more on the same platform.

I don't think it's that easy, or they would have.

Let's not speculate too much. Ketsui for PS3 came out of nowhere, and 5bp has licensed both Ketsui and DOJ. Therefore it seems quite reasonable to assume that they'll see how well Ketsui does on PS3 and possibly afterwards port DOJ. Just a few months ago you could have analogously said, "If the rights issues were easy to clear up, 5bp would have ported Ketsui to PS3 already."

Ketsui didn't have the same issues, that doesn't even make any sense.

Well, the DOJ port was eventually fixed, but this has little relevance since the hardware architecture of the X360 is fundamentally different from the PS3. Thus, I don't see why the history of the X360 port would matter much, given that 5bp holds a license (!) for DOJ. The game would have to be ported anew, after all.

The DOJBLEX patch did fix a few issues, but did not change the underlying pilfered/copied code to something original.

Furthermore they may have lost the license already.

Why would they have? It's not free, and the game likely sold as much as it would sell on 360. No reason.

Opportunity cost and all.

Ketsui and DOJ were licensed as a pair, so doubtful.

I thought the issue with DOJBLEX was that the source code was actually stolen from the Arika PS2 version, which is why there was never a 2nd print run due to legal issues.

that would then mean the patch removed the stolen source code and added their own? I wouldn't think they'd have an issue with allowing another print run if the only issue was performance based which is patchable.

Of course I don't have any inside knowledge, but I was under the impression that the patch removed the stolen code. In other words: 5bp rewrote parts of the game. Also, since DOJ would have to be ported to PS3 anew, due to differences in hardware architecture between the two consoles, they could just start with a clean slate and base the port on a version that has none of the code from Arika.

I don't want to speculate too much, though. All I wanted to say was that I don't see why there should be any doubt that 5bp could (!) eventually port DOJ to PS3 as well.

In all honesty, I don't believe it removed any of the code - I think it merely addressed all the bugs.

That's why Arika development staff ended up assisting 5pb and oversaw the patch. I don't it's impossible to port to PS3, but I think the Arika team would also need to be on board to assist with any troubleshooting issues.

At this point, I think it would be better if DOJ was released on PSN as a PS2 classic than to actually port DOJBLEX. But what do I know :P

I've never seen it mentioned before that the patch removed the stolen code. That sounds like total wishful thinking. It's also never been released on the Games On Demand service either, so I reckon there's still some legal sticking issues surrounding the port.

The patch did NOT remove the stolen code, it was only a bug fix patch. I don't know if it were even possible to replace the entirety of the stolen code with just a Xbox Live patch anyway, and it'd still be on the retail discs.

People and their wishes. I don't know where in hell did you get the idea that the patch removed the stolen code cause it didn't. As someone mentioned Arika helped 5PB to solve most of the problems of the game making BLEX the best port of the game so far and due to the steal of the code the license was lost. So no way in hell they'll be allowed to launch another port.
I guess that at least a Bullet Soul port might happen if Ketsui solds well.

Afaik, xbox 360 patches are limited to a file size of 10mb (or 8 or something). So unless the stolen code was smaller than that (possible but I wouldn't think so), I doubt it could have replaced it.

Presumably the stolen code was game logic, not art assets, and 10 mb of compiled code would be an absolutely staggering amount for a shmup. The file size limit would easily be enough to replace the entire logic, so you couldn't rule it out on that account.

Is amiami.com cheaper to California than play-asia? My pa order came out 68$ shipped. Figured nows the time to change the pre-order. I tried going to amiami.com to see the shipping option and it required me to checkout/place the order and get notified about the shipping cost before it releases through email. Im wondering if anyone from California or other non taxed states ordered from here and know the exact price. thanks

If you go with air mail shipping from AmiAmi, it should cost about $10 to ship a standard sized game to the US. If you go with SAL registered/unregistered it's a few dollars cheaper. I'm also in California by the way.

DOJ's patch is the maximum size allowed at the time (3 MB).

No. Just no. Stop trying to talk about things you clearly don't understand.

So, how large do you think the complete source code vs the art assets was? :P

Obviously larger than what was possible to patch with the time/budget allotted. The patch was maximum size and it still only addressed a laundry list of issues rather than being a complete code replacement.

By the way we're two weeks ahead of its release, and 5PB hasn't shown any other video. That makes me wonder if something is going wrong with the port.

My guess is they've decided it's not worth it to make an effort to market the same game twice. Anyone clueless about Ketsui Extra can read and watch up on their 360 version.

With no changes from the 360, this is a low-key release that's only going to sell to hardcore collectors/score players (the latter for the superplay BDs), importers without a J-360, and fans of the genre who somehow never got around to picking up a 360 at all.

I think there are changes, in the interface at least, you have a scrolling minimap and other info like in DOJBLEX, don't think that was on 360.
Not shown in the PV but it's in screenshots http://www.famitsu.com/images/000/034/9 ... 8a7f5.html

Those screenshots are from the super play - so the mini map on the right may not be an in-game feature.

Doh, that would explain why screenshots with the minimap took a little while to find. :|

So they took about 6 months to complete the recordings? I guess this is why the port comes out this late into PS3's cycle. lol
