Seimitsu Sticks that aren't the LS-32 - any info?
Hello folks,
So I recently invested in my first proper stick for playing shmups. A Hori VX-SA. It seems one of the first things most players do is swap out the stock joysticks for the Seimitsu LS-32 which is what I intend to do. While looking around to buy one I noticed Seimitsu produce a number of other sticks (LS-58, LS-40, LS-33, LS-56...). Can anyone tell me anything about these other sticks? Does anyone prefer them over the 32's for shmup playing? Is there any reason I should consider them or should I just get a 32?
Any info greatly appreciated, apologies if this info is already in another thread somewhere.

I have 32's in one cab and 56's in the other - I prefer the 56's by a mile, especially with octo gates.

Any particular reason? Do they have a shorter throw or something? I'm interested to know what differences the sticks have.Wonderbanana wrote:I have 32's in one cab and 56's in the other - I prefer the 56's by a mile, especially with octo gates.

They just feel tighter than a 32; I've been playing on the 56's for months and only back on the 32's earlier tonight and they feel sloppy in comparison.PAPER/ARTILLERY wrote:Any particular reason? The LS-56 has quicker engage than the LS-32, and lacks a problem the LS-32 can get if you often hit the gate hard. Also, the octo-gate for the LS-56 is very nice if you're a player that like to ride the gate a lot, very hard to hit diagonals by accident. Better overall control IMHO. The LS-58 is the same stick as the SL-56 but with a slightly softer spring and fancier colour choices (matching dustwasher/shaft cover + semi transparent choices as well).

Thanks for the input gentlemen, is there anywhere on the net that has a comparison of these different sticks? Looks like the 56 is a popular choice, i'll have to consider that too.

here you have additional info, for example the force needed to move the stick.

How about the LS-58? And do either the 56 or 58 fit into a Madcatz Brawlstick, like the LS-32?emphatic wrote:The LS-56 has quicker engage than the LS-32, and lacks a problem the LS-32 can get if you often hit the gate hard. Re: Seimitsu Sticks that aren't the LS-32 - any info?
I just put a 58-01 in one of those WWE brawl sticks yesterday and it was super easy. MS plate fits perfectly vertically, focusattack seems to sell them already equipped with it. Just make sure it's an -01 for maximum easyness.
As far as the wire harness plug thing, I don't know how it all comes normally or if whoever put the right plate on there also adjusted the pcb, but even the plug is on the correct side. Either that or I plugged it in upside down. But it works! The reason I mention it is because I had originally read that you would need the plug on the bottom instead of the right and it would require moving some parts of the stick around.
Also thanks emphatic for the suggestion I just played a game today and the LS-58 is the first stick I haven't actively hated immediately, and there were times in my first credit where I actually felt like I almost had control of my ship. With some practice I may actually give up the pad.

You quote me writing about the LS-58, so what's your question? If you buy from FocusAttack, mention what stick it's going into to make sure you get the correct plate/PCB position like hail good sir got.Master O wrote:How about the LS-58? Great, curious, did you get the octagate as well?hail good sir wrote:Also thanks emphatic for the suggestion I just played a game today and the LS-58 is the first stick I haven't actively hated immediately, and there were times in my first credit where I actually felt like I almost had control of my ship. Looks as though i'll be picking up a 56 or 58 as soon as payday rolls around. Does anyone know how easy it is to install one of these sticks in my VX-SA?

If you get the correct mounting plate, quite easy. The 5-pin connector on your JLF has the pinout reversed, so you just turn the connector upside down.PAPER/ARTILLERY wrote:Looks as though i'll be picking up a 56 or 58 as soon as payday rolls around. Re: Seimitsu Sticks that aren't the LS-32 - any info?
Can anyone recommend a place in the US to get a good deal on a Seimitsu LS-58-01 with the correct octo plate (should be LS-55 version?). The only place I found with the stick and an octo plate just has the LS-56 version which I don't think is compatible / is too big? Or should it use the LS-56 plate? This site:
http://www.focusattack.com/seimitsu-ls- ... ick-smoke/
Clearly says it's compatible with the 55 plate and not the 56. Is this correct?

The 56 plate fits, that's what I just bought.
It's weird that the stick page doesn't mention it but on the 56 gate page it says -
"If you're looking to go full Seimitsu but need the smooth circular motion of Sanwa's GTY restrictor plate, you're in luck. The Seimitsu LS-56 Octagonal restrictor plate fits neatly into a the all new LS-58 joystick, LS-56 joystick, plus the LS-33 and LS-55-01 joystick!"
Sold out on focusattack and paradisearcadeshop, videogamesnewyork doesn't seem to have it listed, those are the only places I can think of.

That's uncanny. Personally, I'd recommend buying from Akihabarashop.jp as the exchange rate is so good at the moment. Or have a look on eBayhail good sir wrote:Sold out on focusattack and paradisearcadeshop, videogamesnewyork doesn't seem to have it listed, those are the only places I can think of.

The ebay prices seem terrible and international and that shop doesn't have it showing up in their stock list. All I see there is JLF. I think I'll wait out focusattack because I'm not in a rush. I already have a modded LS-32 so I'm not exactly suffering.

Re: Seimitsu Sticks that aren't the LS-32 - any info?
I have to bump up this thread but I need to give major props to the LS-56-01. It is better than the LS-32-01 however there is no restrictor gate for two/four way on the LS-56-01 (no Pac-Man/TGM on this). Octo is highly recommend with the LS-56-01. I feel the stick has slightly more tension/resistance than the LS-32-01 which mean better for Shmups.
If buying it I would highly pick up one of the KOWAL Mounting Plate converters:
http://www.focusattack.com/kowal-flat-plate-converter/
http://www.focusattack.com/kowal-japan- ... converter/
The KOWAL S Plate Converter will fit any control panel that currently uses the LS-32-01 with the SS Mounting Plate and supports all Seimitsu sticks. If you are too scared to replace the LS-32-01 with another joystick, the KOWAL Converter plates will save you.

That is an amazing post. I was looking for a way to mount Seimitsu sticks on my NNC sanwa panel and I could not find a solution.
I'll try to order two of those ! Thanks for the link Domino.

Just saw this, the flat KOWAL mounting plate should fit just fine on the NNC if of course they were using Sanwa sticks from the start. I gave my friend my spare KOWAL Flat plate and he installed a LS-32-01 on a Qanba Q1. The LS-32-01 doesn't fit without that plate.plasticxo wrote:That is an amazing post. Those two mounting plates are amazing products. Yes the cost of them is $10 which is double the cost of a regular mounting plate, but why deal with many different plates when one plate works with almost all Japanese sticks.
With these two products there is zero excuse to not swap out a stick of your choice.
