Startech Video Capture Card Question

Post by dropper »

Hi, I've just purchased a PEXHDCAP Startech Capture Card which I was recommended by you guys (best bang for buck), have it installed and ready to go, only thing is that I think I'm missing a few connections.

One problem I have when connecting the 360 via HDMI, I can hear the audio from captured recordings using the packaged software, but I can't hear any live audio, this is a problem when streaming using XSplit.

My main concern is that I'd ideally like to connect my scart devices such as my SNES, VHS Player, perhaps Wii, MegaDrive Etc.. But I'm a little confused by what cables I need in order to connect them.
I see members talking about the sync strike device all the time, but what is it needed for, and is it essential in order to connect scart devices to the card?
I've already bought a couple of cables that I think might work (but I'm probably wrong)

1 X Scart switchbox/splitter/adapter (For splitting the scart to display on both the television and via video cap card)
1 X Video Adapter cable SCART output to VGA / SVGA / D-sub 15 pin input 2m Dsub lead (To connect the scart to D-Sub adapter that goes into DVI-D into the video cap card)

Though after I was recommended this: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=35885 ,I've got a feeling I'm doing something wrong, anyone care to help explain?

You may want to try reposting this in this thread instead: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=37984

For older consoles, you'd need a Sync Strike (or some other sync separator setup) as you mentioned, though the fact that the card captures at 720x240 may prove problematic for live streaming. Check the thread I linked above for more info (I'm having issues with it).

The device you linked below seems to do the same thing as a Sync Strike; I suspect either one will work for you.

The audio issues are likely due to Xsplit simply not supporting the card's embedded audio. I'd post on the Xsplit forums to confirm the card and the embedded audio are supported. If not, beg them to support it, or else you'll have to use Amarec or some other capture software to do a screen capture, or you'll need to pull audio from the 360's multi-AV port into your mic/line-in port.

Keep in mind I am far from an expert, I'm just a hobbyist figuring it out as I go along.
Good luck
