Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I picked up a first revision AV Famicom (SN starting with 105*) and tried out my Akumajo Densetsu (VRC6) and noticed that the sound from the VRC6 is a bit loud. I've found no direct discussion on a fix for this. I've only found threads about modifications for FC to NES adapters and modifications for NES toasters. Anyone solved this? I've also read that the F-LABO psuedo stereo mix corrects this? Thoughts, commenets, and/or suggestions?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
So I just won a DVDO iScan Pro on ebay. Only problem is, no power supply. Looks like it just needs 6V 1.5A and a pretty standard DC power connector. Anyone have any experience running these things with random power bricks off ebay?
Looks like 6V 2A supplies are cheap and plentiful.

My cart is the same way. I'm pretty sure that's how it's supposed to sound. Unless you want... a different experience than intended?RGB32E wrote:I picked up a first revision AV Famicom (SN starting with 105*) and tried out my Akumajo Densetsu (VRC6) and noticed that the sound from the VRC6 is a bit loud. @orbus: any PSU is just fine. The Pro usually even runs fine on 5V. 6V2A will be just fine as well.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Is there a quality joystick with a really small deadzone (or easily mod-able to be that way) that doesn't click? With an octagonal gate? Thinking about making my own stick.
I don't even know if I mean "small deadzone" or "short throw" or whatever, but something where you can shift movement directions quickly.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
All I can think of without clicky switches is either an old leaf switch stick or new optical one, but I have no clue what's available these days and what the tolerances are like. I think Sanwa made an optical one...although a quick search says they stopped around 2006, some others made similar ones apparently.hail good sir wrote:Is there a quality joystick with a really small deadzone (or easily mod-able to be that way) that doesn't click? If you're familiar with those sticks that might fit your small deadzone criteria, unless you want even smaller. With a clicky stick you could do a simple mod like this, but no clue if something like that is possible with an optical stick. Otherwise perhaps find quieter/lighter microswitches and/or make the case dampen the sound as much as possible, if that's your reasoning for wanting no clicks at least.

hail good sir: I think getting an LS-56 or LS-58 and equip it with switches like this will get you close to what you want: http://www.arcadeshop.de/ILSA-Buttons-L ... p_566.html

Yeah I had no real reason for no clicks other than I think it would annoy me. The 56 came up a couple times in my searching so now that I have some confirmation I think I'll try that.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
So I'm wondering what I should look for in a TV to hook up to my XRGB-mini. I'm assuming one which has a native input setting, 1080p, and appropriate backlighting/contrast ratio to my liking. Are there any other key things I should be looking into?
I'm trying to figure out if I should go for a TV nicer than my current 42" Toshiba REGZA to game on or if I should just buy another to watch normal day to day stuff on and use my REGZA for gaming.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Is this the correct orientation for using this 72 pin to 60 pin converter? I performed a continuity check and I'm pretty sure this is correct. Converter silk screen faces front, NES cart faces back. Why they didn't design this so that the NES cart faces front? This is true of my HoneyBee Famicom to NES converter (famicom cart faces back/down).

does anyone know if the vga input on the xrgb-2 can be used for 31khz passthrough?
edit: i checked the manual again and realized it does indeed work, tested it too.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
i need a good pair of stereo speakers to put on top of a 29" crt. hopefully somebody here can help me out!
i've been using a pair of shelve speakers on my main setup so far, but i'm not sure if there are any good one's that aren't bulky and i'm not sure it'll do good for the sound if i have them placed so close together too. so i've been wondering:
might i be better off with a pair of stereo pc speakers? i'm always close to the crt anyways, so i don't need a pair that can blast really loud sound across multiple meters.
or am i just looking at the wrong place (teufel) and could find compact, good shelve speakers made for close-distance listening elsewhere?
tl;dr i'm looking for a set of stereo speakers with the best sound possible (at a budget of roughly 200 euros) for short-distance listening. headphones are out of the question for me.

you want nearfield monitors. Check here http://www.thomann.de/de/cat.html?gf=ak ... ore&oa=pra
ESI uniK 04 or M-Audio AV40 or Behringer MS40 are reasonably priced and great as monitor accessoires. Note that some are sold as pairs while others are listed with price per piece.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
those look interesting, thanks. the esi pair looks pretty nice, actually. i'll just have to hope that the person who gave it a somewhat bad review has much higher standards than i have (whichs eems pretty likely...).Fudoh wrote:you want nearfield monitors. there are rca to "klinke" adapters, yes?

Is it possible to have a Component a/v switch box that does not require its own AC adapter?

What's the best way of connecting a Sega Saturn/Dreamcast to a Astro City cabinet? I'm planning to get a cabinet, not sure if there would be a better choice if I intend to play console SHMUP ports on it.

There's a box for the DC specifically made for this ...Jelly wrote:What's the best way of connecting a Sega Saturn/Dreamcast to a Astro City cabinet? I'm planning to get a cabinet, not sure if there would be a better choice if I intend to play console SHMUP ports on it.

But you can of course build your own pretty easily. As with any console, you just need some padhacks to interface your controls to and a way to get RGB video (either directly from the console in some cases, or with a converter circuit in others). Power and sound are pretty trivial.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
So no one knows what screen is the best in this category ? I'd appreciate some help as I'm useless when it comes to that kind of stuff and don't want to spend 300€ on a piece of sh*t7711 wrote:I'm looking for a rotating screen to go with my new pc, can you guys tells me what I should get ? Thanks

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
there are plenty of threads on monitor-advice around here on the board.
Dell 2312 is the best matte 23" and out of the box rotateable screen around. For 27" the Dell S2740L is great, but the stock-stand does not rotate (it got VESA mounts though).

If you can get SCART RGB cables for them, viletim's adapter should be good:Jelly wrote:What's the best way of connecting a Sega Saturn/Dreamcast to a Astro City cabinet? I'm planning to get a cabinet, not sure if there would be a better choice if I intend to play console SHMUP ports on it.

There's also a Playstation controller board, so along with some SS/DC to PS control adapters it can be all plug and play (or you can pad hack your own stuff and save some money). I got one to hook up to a 360 a little while back, and there's some threads around here about it, including viletim's own thread. For power I just ran in a little power strip extension.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
So I did the whole Sega Astro City stereo/amp thing, the amp and speakers by themselves seem fine, but the high-low converter input using this one is putting out a hum. I tried the ground cable but that only seemed to make the sound fuller (sounded tinny without it), but the hum is still there. I asked over there and it sounds like a ground loop isolator would fix it, but just checking here to see if there's something else funky about the Astro City that would be causing it (and might not be fixed by the isolator)...I'm thinking something might be off with the ground wiring in my cab to begin with but I'm not really sure how to check all that.
edit - remembered that the amp is plugged into a power strip (more of a multi port extension) inside the cab, would plugging the cab into that possibly fix it? Both the cab and strip are plugged into a surge protector externally.
edit again - scratch that last idea, tried and it didn't change anything.
and another edit - ground loop isolator didn't work either, doh. Probably gonna try another line level converter.
last edit - different converter worked!

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Hi guys, new to the forums
Need some help on this whole video upscaler business...
I play on my PS1/PS2 regularly, but i recently moved apartments so i don't have the space for a CRT TV anymore, all i have left is my 32" LG HDTV, which has a HORRIBLE built-in upscaler with huge input lag as well. Seriously, the games look horrible, washed-out graphics and blurriness and jaggies everywhere, even with component cables. Tried messing with the TV settings too but it still looks terrible.
I'm willing to try a video upscaler, nothing fancy though, i'm on a tight budget. If i can get similar CRT quality through an upscaler, i'll be happy. Found this HD BOX PRO upscaler, but it only has VGA out, which my HDTV does not have.
So can you guys recommend a "cheap" upscaler, which supports component-out or HDMI-out?
Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know what size and length of screw to use for the iScan VP30 feet?
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
cheap, lag free HDMI to VGA adapter, does it exist?
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Hi, I recently got a Dreamcast and official RGB Scart Cable.
I have a bit of a problem though...
The picture wobbles for quite a while before eventually settling down. The wobble seems to start at the top left and be more prominent down the whole left side.
Also, look at these pictures:

Fake 480i mode on the 240p test suite, everything looks ok.
Now 240p mode:

As you can see the picture is vertically shifted downwards. This happens on a PVM-2044QM, a PVM-1454QM and a KV-21LS30U (Flat Trinitron)
EDIT: and on a SHARP LC-26AD5E LCD it still happens, and it doesn't like the change of resolution either.
Here are some pictures of the SCART cable:

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Your cable doesn't have video ground (pin 17) connected. It only uses the audio ground and probably the outer metal shielding. Take a look at the breakout adapter you're using (= open it up) and make sure that ground is actually connected over the whole cable chain.
