Awesome Game Replays #1: Ghouls 'N Ghosts

Post by Aquas »

Hey guys. Taking a (1 week) break from STG Weekly to debut a new side-show to STGW, "Awesome Game Replays" which will be this Saturday, July 6th @ Noon CST. http://twitch.tv/stgweekly

We're taking a look at a 2-ALL 1lc (1 life clear) from MikeHaggar but are also being joined by PJ from the speed running community, showing off his speedrun of Ghouls 'N Ghosts as well. He has the best time in the game, and is putting together a run for us to talk about solely for the show. (He's not a big fan of MAME, but doesn't own the board.)

Basically, everything Ghouls 'N Ghosts will be discussed when we include the intricacies of a speedrun into the mix.

I have a few ideas for how I want this episode to feel and come across as, but as it's the first, it might be a little weird. If it goes well, Awesome Game Replays will include other speed runners to comment on runs such as romscout with Symphony of the Night or Mikeuyama (who used to post here) on Sunset Riders. We will also cover other similar gaming feats that may not fit into 1cc or Speed category. That is the point of the title "Awesome Game Replays" it is open.

The show will be released on the STG Weekly youtube channel as well.

Yo! Excited about this. BTW, it's a 1LC Aquas, not a 1CC. Huge difference! (i lost several months of my life for that one letter) :P

Indeed, on the STGW channel in fact.

I only recently noted this difference. It is indeed a thing!

Nice, looking forward to it. Hopefully it helps to bring interest to forgotten arcade games/genres.

Up on Youtube.

I was having some crazy issues with my connection at the time of the recording and it was a bit frustrating but we get through it. There are also a bit of sound balance issues which I regret slipped through, however, I still think it's a decent watch to learn and see what Ghouls n Ghosts is all about. The sound does balance out eventually. Try to enjoy it, please.

that was great. learned some things, even as someone who has cleared this game (wouldn't want to 1LC it though, haha). really looking forward to other games... platformers give a nice pace for commentary thats difficult to achieve with shmups sometimes.

Very cool show. I'd love to see Rygar or Black Dragon in future episodes.

Great show, that speed run was mindblowing. Taking damage to skip parts and what not.

Black Tiger/Dragon would be nice. One of my favorite games.

Damage boosting is a common trick in speedrunning where health and/or destroyable armor is available. There's obviously a lot of risk involved in taking a hit and leaving yourself vulnerable in order to gain a few extra seconds, especially in 1HKO games like Daimakaimura, but it can be quite a rush to blast past normally hard-to-fight enemies in your boxers during invincibility.

Great show, as always. Twitch is being particularly retarded the past few days however, guys, so you might want to delay your next episodes.
