NOOOOOO!!!! Paul W.S. Anderson to direct Castlevania movie
A Castlvania movie is in the works and the festering pile of fly covered shit that is Paul W.S. Anderson is lined up to direct it.
Why does he have to ruin another franchise? Was Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil and Alien Vs Predator not enough? Well I suppose it could have been worse, Ewe Boll could have been director.

the RE movie (first one mind you) is pretty damn good in my book.. the others are crap tho.. alien vs predator took shitty movies to an all new height tho..
MK sucked because theres nothing of interest to make a movie from.. its like making a movie of Doom or something

the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..
Who cares? Castlevania has a ridiculously convoluted timeline at this point, and just about all of the series staples are amazingly hokey if you actually think about them (killing Dracula with a magic whip? Frankenstein's creature in his basement? A castle that apparantly took notes from Krull? What the fuck?!).
But you guys really want to see an honest cinematic take on Castlevania? Go watch Van Helsing. It's goddamn stupid and throws a bunch of crap in the story just because it can, but then again, that's always been the Castlevania way.
There's no cinematic potential here. The director doesn't matter. I love the series, but let's be honest.

The first Mortal Kombat was decent.
Come on, guys. Do we seriously expect a director and the game developer to put their efforts into making an Oscar-winning movie out of a videogame? They're just trying to milk their cow up to the last drop.
Now, I'd eat my socks if such a thing actually happened, and boy I'd love to eat them when it happens. With taco salsa on them.
But don't get your hopes too high.

Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
The plot to Dawn of Sorrow is especially ridiculous if you think about it... You've got an obsessed cult (comsisting of all of... oh, three people) that has not only managed to build a massive (and yet still decrepit) castle, but has somehow managed to come up with all sorts of demons, devils and other assorted baddies to fill it with. You'd think they'd be more worried about the planning and zoning board busting in to shut 'em down before Soma and company could get there.sethsez wrote:Who cares? Silent Hill is written by a Pulp Fiction co-writer (and the main writer for the Rules of Attraction script), directed by the Brotherhood of the Wolf guy, and co-stars Sean Bean (aka Boromir). Probably won't be Oscar winning, but they're actually trying to make a good, respectable movie out of it.Specineff wrote:Come on, guys. However, Silent Hill is a good foundation to build a movie on. Castlevania does things with Dracula that even Hammer wouldn't have done in their most desperate hours.
The first MK movie was exactly what a MK movie should have been. There's no real plot. "yeah, you get to fight! let's go!'. And then a bunch of fighting. And some surprisingly well done reference to the video game. Johnny Cage's Friendship? That was so worth it. Just think of the MK movie as a "bad" kung-fu film where they happened to use the MK universe as the setting.
Now the 2nd one just sucked.

And the 2nd one wasnt directed by him
Paul W.S. Anderson always puzzles me. He actually is a competent director, who seems to only get STUPID projects.
I mean, Mortal Kombat was for many people regarded as the best video-game based movie.... up until Resident Evil came. Both are made by him. Of course, none of the movies are really excellent, but I guess everyone expected them to suck (As all videogame based movies do),stil they are actually enjoyable.
And I also expected crap from Alien Vs. Predator, and once more we got an entertaining movie.
And like someone said.. Event Horizon is very entertatining, while Soldier wasn't too bad either
He is also going to direct a remake of Deathrace 2000, which was a CRAP movie. Why remake a bad movie? And I guess everyone is expecting this to be shit, and in the end it won't be so bad.
If he deserves a bad reputation, is just becase everyone always EXPECT his movies to suck, but he always delivered the goods. Maybe he always get this kind of projects because he knows the expectation will be low, so he can always be safe with just average movies.
I heard he is also producing a movie based on Dead or Alive.

Resident Evil is good and Alien Vs Predator is not THAT bad.
first impression. Like every super hero/video game movie.
first hour, the tale of how everything got to be how it is. with simon and dracula. no action whatsoever.
then when 1:01 hour time has passed you will get a black screen and hear a very loud whip: SAAAQQQQSSSSSSHHH (my whip impression)
Then the last 20 minutes they try to squeeze an entire movie in those 20 minutes.
You see they have to do it like this because else it will get murdered by the critics who will say: "there's no story just action". These critics need to be shot, they're the reason bad movies excist. If it's an action movie, it's action all the way with a tale embedded.

Holy crap, Event Horizon is one of my favorite movies of all time... although I still think Resident Evil and AvP were complete shite. I have pretty much no faith or high expectations for any more video game movies, and this one is no different.sethsez wrote:He also directed Event Horizon, which was pretty entertaining, but still wasn't great.

Let us not forget Peter Jackson is producing the Halo movie (first time he's ever produced and not directed) and is being written by Alex Garland, who wrote 28 Days Later. Of course, since 90% of this board thinks Halo is responsible for the deaths of millions of babies, it went unnoticed.sethsez wrote: Silent Hill is written by a Pulp Fiction co-writer (and the main writer for the Rules of Attraction script), directed by the Brotherhood of the Wolf guy, and co-stars Sean Bean (aka Boromir). Feedback will set you free.

Event Horizon's goodness comes from its art director and director of photography though. Paul Anderson didn't really do all that much to help make that what it was.theevilfunkster wrote:Ok, Event Horizon was quite good (and pretty fucking scary) but he seriously messed up Alien Vs Predator. That film was a complete disaster.

I still think Alien vs Predator wasn't that bad either. I mean, what you guys were expecting? The plot was bad indeed, but I think it was mildly entertaining. I was expecting a lot less.
But I think that was my point... I ALWAYS went to watch his movies with a very low expectation, and the movie always ended up being better than what I expected.
This is Paul W.S. Anderson:

Something that was at least internally consistent and somewhat held to the mythos that had been built up in previous movies.Shatterhand wrote:I still think Alien vs Predator wasn't that bad either. I mean, what you guys were expecting?
I mean, this concept has already been done before, in games and in comics. The comics, especially, were very good. It's not like he was going in blind with no clue on how to combine the franchises. If there was no basis for it at all then I'd be easier on him (I'm relatively forgiving of Freddy vs Jason), but this is an idea that's been done before and he churned out the worst version of it by far.

If it's based on the cartoon (which itself begat the Pac-Land arcade game) or done in CGI, then maybe it could work.captain ahar wrote:reading that article, someone actually bought the rights to make a fucking PACMAN movie. i expect it to dazzle.
But no. We're in for a LIVE ACTION shitfest.
