Excellent find, chtimi! thanks very much

I'll get back to you with specific stage troubles - I haven't played it for ages, only just getting back into the swing of it with the Taito Memories pack.

A buddy of mine and I play 2 player BB (1,2 and 3) every so often. It's great fun, but incredibly difficult once you hit stage 30 and higher.

don't hesitate to ask me about specific levels, that's the only way my lazy ass is going to post strats.

for level 30 here is what i recommend:
if you haven't died yet, the door to the lv30 bonus level will appear on the top of the rightmost vertical bar. get there and wait.

otherwise:
-drop in the hole, stick neutral
fall on the vertical bar. jump on the next bar to the right (with a controlled jump if you have the shoes). bubble a Pulpul (flying ennemy). drop to a lower bar and bubble the second one. once they're bubbled you have plenty of time to kill them, so position yourself for the next step.
fall in the hole to the top of the screen. from now on your goal is to use thunder bubbles to kill the remaining spring enemies (they go in the direction of your back) so wait on bar for a thunder bubble, and fall on it when it's in the middle of the vertical bar. the thunder bubbles are the only way to kill them, the box they're hiding in are to small to bubble them safely.
you will not fuck up often once you know this level well.

I own the Saturn rerelease of Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Island. I have real trouble with it because jumping off from your own bubbles seems way harder than the NES version of the game - your time frame from the point you touch the bubble to tapping the jump button is much shorter. Can anyone confirm this as fact?

You know that to jump on bubbles, you can just hold the jump button down and never let go right? Then you just keep jumping on other bubbles. You don't have to release and press again.

Cthimi - I don't know which levels give me problems off hand. I went on a big spree of playing those games about 5 months ago. I haven't played them since so I don't remember the level #s. I'll find out again soon.

It's not that simple. you have to take care not to burst the bubble jumping on it, i don't understand it completely, for example in stage 1 rebounding on your bubbles against the wall is harder than it should be (PS2 version). It looks like the direction you're imputting while making contact with the bubble is a factor, like it's easier to rebound if you have the same horizontal speed as the bubble. Or maybe, it doesn't work if you make contact not on the same vertical as the center of the bubble. I have the PCB but not here to compare.

no problem, take your time. for me right now my nemesis is level 42. the only times i ever beat it were thanks to an instant-victory item. it's the red, closed level with many fire-breathers and you can only jump up, even with the yellow sweet i can't do it.

Hmmm. Well, I don't have the PS2 version - I'm only going by the MAME and NES versions.

Those you just jump and keep the button held down.

Can you try this? In stage 1, go to the top platform. throw a bubble against the wall and try to rebound on it. does it work reliably? For me it doesn't always work, while in stage 2 it does. :?:

Yes. I was doing it yesterday :)

I've never had a problem with bouncing on bubbles.

I think the tail is spiky isnt it?

So if your back end touches the bubble its going to burst.

I get stuck on the high 90's and can only complete the game if I get an umbrella to pass those stages.

Ive got to level 42 on one life before. Lvl 60 is where I usually 1 credit.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

usually i get to 35 (the yellow "JUMP" level) on the first life, then die once attempting to get on the upper platform. then no problem up to level 42 and proceed to lose all my lives unless i get a special item.. i really have no clue on 42.
